Rick Warren Uncertain if Homosexual Behavior is Sinful, Says ‘Gays’ Go to Heaven
Controversy is stirring over recent comments made by Rick Warren, author of the best-selling book The Purpose-Driven Life and megachurch leader of Saddleback Church in California, who stated that homosexual behavior “might be” sinful, and that he believes homosexuals go to Heaven.

During an interview this week with the Huffington Post, Warren was asked by Marc Lamont Hill if having romantic feelings for a member of the same sex is a sin. Leading up to the question, Warren was explaining that he does not hate homosexuals, and that people should disagree politely on the subject of homosexuality.

“I have many, many gay friends, and have worked around the world with them in gay organizations to try to stop AIDS,” he said. “We’re doing ‘World AIDS Day’ this weekend at Saddleback Church. My wife and I have given millions of dollars to help people with HIV/AIDS and have worked with gay organizations on ...

"Warren was explaining that he does not hate homosexuals, and that people should disagree politely on the subject of homosexuality."

There is no such person as a "homosexual"

There are sinners who conduct their sexual perversions in an unnatural way. (Rom 1:26/27). This is the sin of lust of the flesh.

Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things SHALL not INHERIT THE KINGDOM GOD.

UPS, I like your comment. If the term, "queer," is used for this particular sin, there would be no doubt in anyone's mind. The Bible Says Homosexuality is Sin.

I really don't think God is tied to the English language. In the 1600's the pharmacists were called apothecaries. Communication means that we have an understanding of terms. If I call a person gay, very few, if any, would assume I meant they were happy. The problem here is Mr. Warren is not emphasizing that they that practice such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God, regardless of what name you use to describe it.

Christopher,

Since I was delivered when I was in my early 30s, I also had a very sordid past. When I first became saved, I was also delivered from all of my prior lusts and desires. I truly felt delivered, I thought I could almost fly, so I understand your thoughts on grace abounding. My problem was/is, that many of my prior desires came upon me again; hence my wrestling for over 30 years. I think that was John's thought. And to top it all off, God showed me so many more areas of my life that reflected my carnal flesh that I couldn't see before. The main thing is that God deals with each of us individually, but we "must all" share a common goal and that is to walk in a manner worthy of our Lord. Show me someone who has no desire to please Jesus and I'll show you someone who is a false believer. If He is Lord, He is Savior; if He is Savior, He is Lord. Some things are easy to see and recognize, but the Lord sees our hearts and we often can't or won't do that. I am continually amazed at just how far I am from what God expects from me.

Anyway, thanks for your testimony. It is very similar to mine and my guess is very similar to many who were saved later in life (beyond childhood)

To be clear...I was never a Sodomite. I just wanted to relate my experience from the other side of the fence.

"Grace does much more abound" I can speak to that as a living example. I had a lot of problems with the Sodomites throughout my childhood and teenage years. This is the reason that I've let a crass name slip here and there. I've forgiven but have never forgot.
Anyway, about grace abounding, I never jumped the fence (yuck), but because, in part, of the drugs, sexual perversion was part of my life. I'm embarassed to even say that. I'm telling you all because God completely delivered me from everything...and I mean everything. No urges, no regrets, no nothing. In fact, as difficult as this may be to believe, I couldn't care less if I ever have sex again. Even though I wasn't with God, I begged Him for years to deliver me...by any means necessary. Well, He did and I still thank Him every single day...sometimes twice.
I guess my point is that I think God's grace, for the Sodomite, will be dependent upon how true their plea for deliverance is.
God can do it, but will they truly desire it?

Yes, there will be a continual wrestling with sin, but where sin abounds, grace does much more abound. Should we continue to sin because of the abounding grace; God forbid! But, I can only hope and pray that God does indeed call these sodomites to repentance and the gift of eternal life. Then let them wrestle to the glory of God, which is something they won't do in a godly sense until they are called. All they can hope to have prior to them being called is "worldly sorrow", at best. I agree about not recently seeing or hearing about those who are being born from above. But, God will call those who belong to Him! You and I agree on this.
Although I'm not sure that JohnFJ understand Pastor Warren. Rick is slippery.

That is, if God is still in the business of leading sons to glory. I'm just not hearing of anyone being born again these days.

Romans 1 is very clear on this issue though Mr. is not. Homosexuality is a sin and anyone bot repentent of that life is damned if Christ is not ruling their life.

Amen Frank. It's a fact that we have to deal with it in today's horrible world. I think Rick Warren's point was that there are Christians who have these sinful desires who will still go to heaven because they trusted in Christ as their Lord and Savior.

Homosexuals are plainly on the above list, Ricky should read the Bible once in awhile (As Frank has.

Destructive Heresies in Today's Church

Yes Jim, you are correct to point out the other sins noted. If someone doesn't recognize their sins and desire to turn from them (repent), then they will in fact still be in their sins at the judgment. Why Christ would die for someone's sins and then say it is okay to practice those sins, is beyond me.

Well sort of. What he said was that gays will go to heaven if they have received christ. The issue is, can someone remain gay, in the sense that they practice homosexuality and go to heaven. Whoever framed the article, did it correctly.

This is what happens when Christians pander to these folks by calling them 'homosexual'. That is agreeing with them in their argument they are 'born that way'. But they are not born that way and they are not 'homosexual'. They commit sodomy - they are SODOMITES. Why do you suppose that is the one name that they haven't embraced and still sends them into a devilish snit?
That's it. Sodomites - that is what they are, and that is what God will call them at the judgment.
