Gay pride rally in Georgia derailed

Thousands of anti-gay protesters, including Orthodox priests, occupied a central street in Georgia's capital Friday, with some threatening to lash with stinging nettles any participant in a gay pride parade which was to take place there.

Police in Tbilisi guarded several dozen gay activists and bused them out of the city center shortly after they arrived at the gathering. Those occupying the street held posters reading "We don't need Sodom and Gomorrah!" and "Democracy does not equal immorality!"

Police, however, failed to prevent scuffles, which resulted in 16 people getting injured, the ambulance service said. ...

Being truly born again is a terrible experience and standing before god as a hell bound sinner cannot be induced by a man. If you read of revivals you will see that men were stopped in their tracts by the supernatural power of god and they came in repentance to the churches begging-what must I do to be born again. Can I say it again- when I was truly born again I could hardly speak for at least 24 hours....I sat in my pastors kitchen and tried to make sense of it....to come to the realisation that I was indeed dead and no longer living. The gospel is the power of god. And yes we must affirm what our king feels on these matters, but much ( o dear how much you will never know) am I forgiven. How could I go around pointing the finger and whipping others with nettles. It is I that deserve the nettles....
Yes Lisa, there are no religious courts that sentence man to death, prison, or beating with nettles. (whatever they are ) I am only referring to clearly affirming what scripture teaches about whatever is confronting us at that moment.

JPW, I appreciate your comment! You are not an evangelical feminist.

And now because you're so spiritual the Spirit communicates directly with you, and that's why you treat the word of God so lightly, and disdain those who put any value on it. You now live by gut feeling (which you refer to as living in the spirit) and think that this is living by faith. Truth is you just want attention.

Lisa, I think you do not respect the role that God gave to men as protectors.

It's one thing to disagree on theology or fact, but you seem to want to belittle the qualities that make men what they are...

these orgy parades are aggressive and unacceptable behavior on the streets of any society, it wreaks of chaos, perversions and abuse of the innocent.

any loving father would feel disgust, just as I do when a car swerves to scare a pedestrian or an elderly woman is pushed around in the grocery aisle.. you want people to not be pulled into these perversions, and abused and confused, then you should encourage the Godly men that hold back evil in society by their good deeds and righteous living and sacrifice to their families!

Okay let’s say we encounter homosexual activists or simply those who are living in and practicing that lifestyle. We rightfully tell them that all fall short of God’s standards and they have to repent and be born again. They say they have repented and thrown themselves on the mercy of Christ and are born again. Do we then confront them with their sin of homosexuality and lovingly but clearly explain to them that they are practicing an abomination and can’t be saved regardless of their viewpoint towards that behavior. I think that was all that Mike was saying and I think that was Luther’s thoughts when he said we should fight the battle that presents itself to us. If it is homosexuality, then that is the battle. If it is total depravity and the need for God's grace, then that is the battle, etc.

Good text. And Paul gives the reason:

Romans 12:19 KJV
19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

This is the coming day of wrath, when God shall blast his enemies, and repay them for all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed. Cast into hellfire, where is weeping and gnashing of teeth.

This is the one aspect of the character of God which we are not to be sanctified unto. Vengeance belongs only to God.

We had a former homosexual speak at our church awhile back. Powerful testimony. I wouldn't call myself a "gay" basher. But I don't think of saying "no more" to the direction we are going in having demands put forth on us via marriage redefinition, pride in the corruption put on public display, etc., as bashing at all. When murderers and thieves and rapists "come out," they too should have the light of truth applied. If this is bashing, so be it. Selective application doesn't fit. In the "gay" scenario, you have to ask, who are the aggressors doing what promoting, and who is responding? Then ask, why is the response called bashing?
I agree Mike and a fellow named Luther also agreed with you.

If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the truth of God except precisely that little point which the world and the devil are attacking at that moment, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Christ. Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is proved, and to be steady on all battlefields besides, is mere flight and disgrace if he flinches at that point.

This quote is attributed to Martin Luther.

I am no respector of persons. And if a sinner is a bank manager or a sodomite, they hear the same gospel from me of God's grace. Those who categorise people into groups, are failing to see that the whole world is guilty before God, for which the only remedy is the vicarious sufferings of Christ, who bore the wrath of God for the sins of all who would believe on him. You have to start there, Lisa - vicarious - in the place of - suffering the wrath and hell I deserved. This is what Jesus has done, and he has done it for sinners.

No Christian walking in the spirit could be involved in either and those not walking in the spirit but the flesh will not inherit the kingdom anyway ( gal 5).

If you have the time there's a good testimony by Rosaria butterfield posted by Kevin Swanson. Have a listen because that seriously challenged me to consider gay people not as public enemy number one but as lost sinners needing to hear the gospel.

A bit of testimony- when I was 17 I had a best friend and I loved her ( not in a sexual sense but in a person to person sense) and we went everywhere together. She was not gay and neither am I. Well, because we spent so much time together my patents added two and two together and made five- we were accused of being in a lesbian relationship ( it was complicated by the fact that I was secretly seeing her brother). My patents were vile, and at one point my father beat me up and chucked me out ( it was Christmas morning). You know that damaged our relationship and it caused hatred....I can understand how gay people can become bitter. I don't condone this gay persecution of Christians thing but I would like to challenge folk to really pray about how they engage with gay people and whether there is a better way than whipping them with nettles.

You've probably never been to a porn movie either. Does that mean you couldn't say whether by its very existence, if it was dishonoring to Christ or not?

Jesus used a whip of some sort. Nettles or not, he sure drove out the thieves. Perhaps these priests are on point more than most Western Christians. Georgian Evangelicals and Muslims should have accompanied this march efforts.

At first consideration, I thought maybe this was an article about Atlanta rather than Tbilisi. When the article started out with "Thousands of anti-gay protesters..." I should have known this was nowhere in America. If the choice is between folks threatening to lash with stinging nettle or folks not doing a thing, I'm hard pressed to say which I would prefer. I would prefer though, the next time there is a sodomite pride parade in an American city 1/2 of 1% of the professed Christians in that city go lift a banner for the Lord and preach against it.

freedom does not give people the right to make our streets debaucherous.

this is what the men of old used to do, protect their neighborhoods and villages from outsiders that had come to destroy their way of life.

and besides a few scuffles that we know little about, it was done peacefully...

in the west the centralized system dictates to the man what he will be.

funny, it was the opposite when I was a kid. now Christians in Russia can speak their minds and brothers here get carted to jail. what a change!
