Chronological Bible sparks debate
Bob Sanford wanted to create a Bible that would bring order and clarity to the text. Instead, he's waded right into one of the great debates of biblical scholarship.

The Chronological Study Bible will be released this fall in the midst of a Bible-publishing boom in the United States. In an industry that now as much to do with profits as with prophets, Sanford expects his new edition to have wide appeal.

"(Our challenge) is to take the scholarship and make it enjoyable to a readership that enjoys history," said Sanford, who oversees the Bible division for the giant Christian publisher, Thomas Nelson. ...

Yes memorization is good; More the better. But I would rather live one or two God given precepts than memorize the whole and live none... Do you think Satan has had time to memorize it all?
Love the LORD thy God with all...
Love thy neighbor...
Good place to start

I cannot remember the 90 year old preacher’s name but can remember a 45 minute sermon preached by him with nothing but memorized verses in his life. He was so pickled with Gods word it was all he do or could speak.. AMen. The first 5 minutes was a thrill and entertaining the last 40 minutes everyone became ashamed…Amen. When I am old and senile I want to be sitting there just quoting scriptures...Not because I memorized them but because I lived them... Amen!

Yes, one does need to learn the Bible as best they can, memorization may or may not be a good thing, and of course at least a bible should have good grammar, before one memorizes parts of it, so as not to sound like a Shakespearean actor.

as America's educator wrote.

[AUTHOR]xxx [/AUTHOR]...the first ideas suggested to the reader should be the true meaning of such words, according to the original languages. That many words in the present version fail to do this is certain....There are also some quaint and vulgar phrases which are not relished by those who love a pure style, and which are not in accordance with the general tenor of the language. To these may be added many words and phrases very offensive to delicacy and even to decency. In the opinion of all persons with whom I have conversed on this subject, such words and phrases ought not to be retained in the version. Language which cannot be uttered in company without a violation of decorum, or the rules of good breeding, exposes the scriptures to the scoffs of unbelievers, impairs their authority, and multiplies or confirms the enemies of our holy religion.[/QUOTE]from, Webster's Revision of the KJV (1833)

True. If we hide God's Word in our hearts, as we are told to do in Psalm 119, we will easily speak it in conversation.

Abigail Adams and her husband John Adams left behind letters (enough for books to be written) between the two of them, and these letters reveal God's Word hidden in their hearts, included without reference in their correspondence.

William Wilberforce of England, as a young man, committed to "hiding God's Word" in his heart. God used him in a mighty way to end slavery in England and abroad.

God's Word hidden in our hearts, can not be taken from us, though Bibles may.

Daniel, your post is a good one for us to consider. Point 6 "Repetition" is key. If we spend time everyday just reading God's Word, it will "settle in" over time.

How to Successfully Memorize Scripture
main points from this recent SA sermon:
1)Choose your topic
2)List all references in order
3)Memorize all references first
4)Fill in the verses and write them yourself
5)Walk as you work
6)Repetition is the key to learning

The Word is also preserved when we pass it on to the next generation:

Ford I agree with you it does need to be kept...But it began to be attacked in the garden, God preserved it, The middle ages tried to eliminate it, God preserved and distributed in more languages. A major blow and when the dug in trench of protection was overrun when the churches surrendered the printing of the Bible to well intentioned men in Bible Societies in the 1800s; In essence prostituting the Word of God for profit in order to prolifically produce it.
A necessary evil if you will. But as with anything the more you have of something the less people value it. Fast forward a few decades and the need for new and improved of that which was devalued and to sell more was ready. And plenty of scholars ready to feed the flame. We don’t need new and improved Bibles, we need read and worn out Bibles.

YOUR POINT- the

is why there is an importance in keeping the word of God from being lost to the church. If preservation is denied, erosion of confidence and

The Bible says God will preserve His word...
Many argue about where and what translation originals ect. No book made with hands will be saved(wood hay and stubble), though God uses these wonderful treasures as a tool of the Holy Spirit in which teaches us all things 1 Jn 2:27, Jn 14:26. The Holy Spirit even uses nature and our conscience(that’s why non will have excuse). God said in Jer he will write his word in our hearts and minds and since we are the reason for the testaments of Jesus Christ commonly called the Bible. Jer 31:33-34 They will be preserved in us. Ps 37:28 I believe and trust the ol KJ(not a version) Bible translation. Why? It’s fruit, It’s testimony, its price in the blood of the saints and their testimony about it. But as much as I love the ol KJ, Its paper and ink will not be found in heaven though its testimony and fruit will be. We can make anything an Idol: our things, our work, our families, our inellect, and yes even our Bibles… Argue all you want I would rather feed on his word and grow thereby…

Many years ago (Less than 20 Im not that old) I was teaching a 1-3 grade Jr Church class. I brought in an original 1611 King James folio Bible first printing. Within a few minutes the class was reading without help in all its size and fonts. And understood what it said. What does this say about those that say it is too hard to read?

No, DemCons, a CT advocate such as myself doesn't need to bad-mouth the brothers you mention. They do a most effective job of that themselves without any help from me or anyone like me - what with all their invective, shouting over opponents (as I have heard on internet radio), unsubstantiated allegations, shrill rhetoric, and name-calling! It is painful to read, let alone to listen to!

With supporters like them, who needs detractors?

"Royalty, Rumors and Racists"

BY STEPHEN A. COSTON, SR.

AUTHOR OF THE NEW BOOK:

KING JAMES
The VI Of Scotland & I Of England
Unjustly Accused?

"Critics of King James VI & I are fond of inferring from the above that King James VI & I engaged in the "French kissing" of his "favorites." They then use this assumption as yet another "proof" to support their contention that King James VI & I was indeed truly a "homosexual."

"What the detractors of King James VI & I utterly fail to realize; however, (to their detriment) is the fact that the accounts responsible for popularizing this characterization were penned by individuals who hated not only King James VI & I as a Scot, but the whole country of Scotland as well. They were some of the most militant racists of the time of the most vicious type. Some of their contemporaries knew this and railed against them and defended King James VI & I and it is quite the mystery why modern critics seem not to know this..."

Ironic Romish bookstores have the modern versions but no KJV-Rome hates REFORMATION Textus Receptus

KJO-arminian and defective on doctrine-cranks like Tex Marrs/Riplinger are used of Satan like agent provocateurs to 'wrongly' promote rather than the Reformed Trinitarian Bible Society that 'rightly' defends-sadly many hear those 'wrong voices' and wrongly despise the KJV without seeing the right issues.

You mention bereans in the same breath as Ryrie Study bible. Dispensational notes are extra biblical-the Holy Spirit will teach from Scripture alone-I'll be a berean and stick with my KJV bible without notes.

"jim lincoln": What do you mean "you would really make a good Catholic" ?

I AM a Catholic--An TRUE Authorized (English "King James") Bible Believing BIBLICAL-LITERALIST "Sola-Escritura" Holy-Bible-Only 66-Booked-Scriptural BIBLE Catholic: Just like ALL True (Universal) Born-Again Bible Believing Saints in The LORD Jesus Christ are Bible Catholics--NOT Roman (Roamin') "Catholics", mind you, but Holy BIBLE-ONLY Catholics (The True Historic "Protestants" if you please) !

But, I don't expect "Jesuit" plants like you, "jim lincoln", to believe The Historic "CATHOLIC" (Universal)TRUTH anyway !

A Democratic Conservative, you would really make a good Catholic. I was going to say that the King James Only movement, must have been a Catholic conspiracy since it divides them from most conservative Christians, who of already come to the realization Why I Do Not Think the King James Bible Is the Best Translation Available Today. I have no problem with anyone preferring the KJV, especially if they're using the Ryrie Study Bible, but those who push it say it is the only valid version ought to know,
Acts 17
11Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of the mind, examining the Scriptures daily, whether these things were so.
This can't be done unless it is in the common language of the people. Otherwise, they are in effect just speaking in tongues without a translator. all this controversy must give great comfort to many Roman Catholics, when the clear writing of the modern Catholic Bible is compared to the sonorous but often unintelligible sound of the KJV. Some of those sounds when they are understood do not sound that great, however, Webster's Revision of the KJV (1833)

Charlton Heston

"...the King James translation has been described as 'the monument of English prose' as well as 'the only great work of art ever created by a committee'. Both statements are true. Fifty four scholars worked seven years to produce the work from its extant texts in Aramaic, Hebrew, Greek, Latin, and English. Such an undertaking can be expected to produce great scholarship, but hardly writing as spare and sublime as the King James....

The authors of several boring translations that have followed over the last fifty years mumble that the KJV is "difficult" filled with long words. Have a look at the difficult long words that begin the Old Testament, and end the Gospels: 'In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; darkness was upon the face of the deep.' and 'Now, of the other things which Jesus did, if they should be written every one, I suppose the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.'

Well, since "Thomas Nelson" is a Satanic-Vaticanist & Roman "Catholic" Cultic so-called "Bible" Publisher;

Can any "good" Bible, especailly any "good" 'Chronological Bible', ever come from The PITS of ROME & Its Satanic Vaticanist Roman "Catholic" Cult of Popish "Jesuitic" Vaticanism ?

I think (really know) NOT ! ! ! ! ! ! !

And besides, Sanford probably didn't use The Authorized English Holy Bible which has been, and is STILL, in use for the last 400 years:

The Authorized English "King James" Version of The AUTHORIZED Holy Bible !

When I was a student (Ministerial Major) at Bob Jones University back in the 1980s; I remember they were subtly trying to shove the NASV-B Bible-Perversion down our (the students') throats (spiritual throats that is).

I appealed to the Chancellor at the time, Dr. Bob Jones Jr., who told me to stick with The KJV like His Daddy (Bob Jones Sr.) DID.

Which I've DONE, and WILL DO:

UNTIL CHRIST JESUS' KINGDOM COME ! ! !
