Why Evangelical Leaders Love Pope Benedict XVI (And His Resignation)

Pope Benedict XVI, who announced his resignation Monday after eight years as head of the Roman Catholic Church, will leave a legacy of strong theology, cooperation with evangelicals and a hardline conservative stance on social issues, evangelical leaders and observers say.

As pope, the German Joseph Ratzinger championed a "culture of life" on issues such as abortion, encouraged the "new evangelism" of the church, and issued the first papal tweet. Benedict, 85, cited age and deteriorating strength as reasons for his resignation.

Benedict stepped into a difficult role as an intellectual and administrator following John Paul II, the first "celebrity pope," said Carl Trueman, professor of church history at Westminster Theological Seminary. ...

Agree Mike, RCC has error. But so do just about all other churches. If you werent moved to abhor that cross dangling from the boys neck, I will guess your church as quite a bit of idolatry going on too.

Ive seen conservative churches with Christmas trees next to the pulpit as they call Catholics idolatrous.

Lutherans profane the Lords Supper too, but I dont see self righteous rage wage war against them.

Im always amazed at the endless venom spewed towards Catholics by those professing themselves to be Christian

2 Timothy 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Its amazing how romanists can quote scripture (out of its context) for every popish dogma and practice .
Deut. 4:2.
May the Lord grant His elect the desire to study to show ourselves approved and to possess a deep and accurate knowledge of
Scripture in practice and handling His Word,

The Roman Catholic False Church and Religion is rife with idolatry.
For one they have redefined the 10 Commmandments erasing the 2 ND Condemning idolarty and split the 10 th against coveteousness into 2 separate commandments against coveting.

So they worship a lifeless piece of bread as if it is Christ Himself physically present

So they worship the counterfeit perpetual virgin of the RCC as if she is the comediatrix of all graces

So they worship the Pope(bow to him, kiss his ring, blasphemously call him Holy Father)

BUT NOT the Lord Jesus Christ as God Himself in Scriptures reveals Him to be.

It is a sad heart breaking thing to find devote RC people, and even baptists who are going awhoring after the RCC, are so blind to the nose on their faces, or the elephant in the room.

Paul knew what it meant to be saved from sin, those who aren't can only pretend and quote Scriptures to their own condemnation in the day of judgment when many will say 'Lord, Lord' despite the reality they didn't know Him and judged others who did.

Christopher000, your comments were quite understandable to those who know what it means to be saved by grace, by faith in Christ alone, don't be surprised if someone straying from Biblical faith (modifying my post here, including going awhoring after the Roman Catholic False Church and Religion ) doesn't understand because they can't, no matter how much (quote) theology they think they've got.
The Apostle Paul, who by the Spirit called himself the chief, or foremost of sinners, nevertheless by the same Spirit wrote:
"If anyone does not love the Lord Jesus Christ let him be accursed!"
the very same choosen vessel of God who wrote of Israel that his heart's desire and prayer to God for them was that they be saved.
Michael,
Do you think long haired kids with idolatry hanging from their necks full of doctinal error are the only ones that love Jesus?

If you want to quote Paul in a like situation to Chris and his family, you would quote

Romans 9:3 For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:

That sir is the true Spirit of Christ

By the way, I don't hope for their condemnation by any stretch. ..I feel just the opposite. I must have come off wrong again. What I do mean is that if, in the end they leave this life unrepentant, then my hope is that they suffer greatly for all of those that they have deceived.
My greatest hope thought is repentance and re-birth.

Hi Steve, I don't have amy animosity towards my family at all...maybe I came across wrong. What I do feel is very sad for them and somewhat helpless.
I stand by what I said, but I do agree with you on this: if they remain lost, it is by nobody's fault but their own for choosing to be willfully ignorant. I don't blame a Pope or a church for the personal decisions that they have made.

Christopher.
Romans 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Chris,
1) I dont what the deal is with the animosity you feel towards your family, but will guess your animosity isnt rooted in Catholicism. If you are worried about their eternal state, remember no creature(which includes popes & the devil) can seperate God from his Elect. If they were led away from salvation, they were led away by their own wickedness.

2) Hoping for eternal destruction for those that deserve it condemns yourself. We ALL deserve eternity in hell. Those that have been forgiven this huge debt and are saved by Grace, also do not harbor your wish.

3) While there have been Popes that persecuted the Saints and not repented in perdition, that hardly damns all of them

To all of the Popes who have died and will die:

Although I don't wish eternal destruction upon even my worst enemy, I will have no sympathy for any of you at the great white throne judgement. You all have led untold billions to their eternal destruction so it's only fitting that you join them. If you don't repent and renounce, to the world, the religious machine that you operate, and continue to lead the masses to their destruction, then I hope your eternity will be filled with the greatest pain, horror, and emptyness that any human being could possibly imagine.
I know that's sharp, but I have no sympathy for the Devil and you are not far removed.

Christopher.

Oh boy, here we go with that favorite word/food of yours again. Boil in the bag kippers...mmmm. The scent in your home must be just lovely. Most RC's are born into it and conditioned from childhood that if they part ways with the church, or question any mystery, they will be condemned for eternity.
When any pope has died, my mom has cried as though it was Jesus Christ Himself. Blubbering as though the world's hope had been lost forever. I don't hate Roman Catholics, or anyone for that matter, but I do hate the religious machine that has my family members dangling like mindless puppets under their Satanic spell. Aside from Hitler and the inquisitions, Roman Catholocism is Satan's greatest masterpiece....1, 000, 000, 000 puppets being willingly led to their eternal destruction simply because they believe that a mere sin filled man is Christ on Earth, doing and believing whatever puke happens to spew from his mouth.
