Mitt Romney Visits Rev. Billy Graham: ‘Prayer Is the Most Helpful Thing You Can Do For Me’

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney met Thursday with Rev. Billy Graham, and the aging evangelist pledged to do “all I can” to help the GOP nominee win the presidency.

Romney went to see Graham and his son, the Rev. Franklin Graham, at the elderly evangelist’s mountaintop home in the mountains of western North Carolina.

“Prayer is the most helpful thing you can do for me,” Romney told the 93-year-old Graham.

On the other hand, Jesus teaches;
"Matt 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

Which bears out Pink's theory. Also it would be naive to believe that everybody in the church is saved. The subtlety of Satan (and sin) is to have his evil deceivers in the congregation to mislead and delude both the followers and the witness. Hence...
"2Peter 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of."

This is THE battle and Satans soldiers will definitely infiltrate the ranks of believers seeking to pollute the witness of the church, by covert and insidious means. Satans weapons such as salvation by works and counterfeit faith are old and modern deceptions.

Thanks Mike. U often second guess myself thinking I should be keeping my sometimes big mouth shut. Just so people get me, I'm here for correction and instruction, not to sound like a know it all when I post. I'm realizing more and more that I'm farther from it than I thought. I was on a couple of boards before this one and believe it or not, I was one of the smart ones...ha-ha...yikes! I have a habit of saying what's on my mind but shouldn't say so much matter of dactyl like I do.

Most of you all really impress me but lose me on some issues because it sounds like you all have a lot of experience and study backing you up...I just pretend to be wise but just can't seem to get away with it here...ha-ha.

Thanks to John from Wales and Frank as well.

Chris said.
As for Mason's and Masonic handshakes, if the talk is true concerning a persons initiation,or whatever the case, then I don't see that as gossip, slander, etc. I see it as being just as real a topic as exposing the JW's teaching that Jesus and Satan are brothers, and that the Mormon's wear magic underwear. I just feel that IF something is true and there is deception involved, it should be exposed, discussed, etc.
Chris. Very true.. Except. Jw's believe Jesus is Michael the arch angel . It's Mormons who believe Jesus and Satan are brothers. Just didn't want u to get a knock on your door on a Saturday morning, from a Jw. And tell him. Jesus and Satan are brothers.. Freemasons is a cult. And no Bible believing Christian should take any part in the practice of the masons.

We agree, thanks for the follow up. I also agree that we should be very careful when we refer to someone as a heretic. I am so glad I don't have to walk in the shoes of someone who is influential to large groups of people!

I'm not all that sure I would agree with you on the gossip and/or slander issue. I would think that if someone is held out to be a spiritual leader, then negative or positive things should be made public. In other words, if someone is a false prophet, then there would be reasons for that to be true. Now if those reasons are made public, then how can that be gossip or slander if the reasons are in fact true? Wouldn't everyone want the church to know? So, I think the issue of slander or gossip is something that is a heart issue rather than something that is cut and dry?

Good evening Chris.

Believers are designed by God to be a part of a body, the "body of Christ", each being members of that body with differing gifts, that the body may function as a church, a representative of Jesus Christ on earth.

Therefore it is necessary that someone in leadership with spiritual insights will be able to discern between the sheep and the goats within the context of the fellowship. Without such discernment, unregenerate men will eventually become leaders themselves, and lead the church astray. This is why so many formerly evangelical churches could best be described as apostates today.

It may not be an easy task, and the church in Jerusalem is an example of an overly cautious one, who initially rejected one called by God to apostleship, namely Paul. But it is an essential task.

better a lock-in scholar than a locked-up.

thanks Frank for your kind comment.

Jarsel brings in an interesting verse because we have seen BG's old sermons confessing Christ. What happened I cannot understand. I just recognize when another gospel is spoken.

My brother A W Pink was such a prolific writer that I could hardly imagine him having any time for social interraction with his contemporaries. Indeed he became somewhat of a recluse, and his writing output was massive. Thus my description of him as a lock-in, because he was locked into, and had a one-track-mind on, his theological treatises.

Being fairly new to all of this, much of the back and forth in some of the posts goes over my head. I'm shocked at times to see how one Christians opinion can be so vastly different from another. Not on anything particularly fatal, but on topics that I just assumed most would simply be in agreement on.

I used to claim to know but I now realize that one never knows what is going on behind closed doors or within someones head no matter what their social fruits are.

I'm assuming that the comment about Frank being a divisive character was a joke? I haven't been on the forum long but I see just the opposite unless he did in fact used to be a trouble maker here...ha-ha...hmmm

Quite so bro. Jesus is God, and Pink was a lock-in scholar.

Another proof is this:

Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
1 John 5:1 KJV

When a person is born of God, they believe that Jesus is the Christ, and they believe that he is the Son of God.

For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
1 John 5:4-5 KJV

Those that are born again love God.

And those that are born again love others who are born of God.

Which makes you wonder about some who profess to love God yet maintain a sectish, censorious spirit, loving their own party but denying the possibility of anyone else being born again because they are not of their grouping.

Now I know this is easy to write in words and may indeed be more difficult in everyday life. Perhaps in the time we are living in modern day Christianity has gotten away from people having a real salvation testimony (knowing in sound Biblical theology and in real life experience what it means to be born again, regenerated, made into a new creature in Christ), with a life that has been changed by God and for God backing it up in obedience of faith.

BTW In those genuinely saved you will see Repentance. Hell's Best Kept Secret here on SermonAudio by Ray Comfort might be helpful to you in better understanding both how and why someone so desperately needs Salvation and what it looks like when a man or woman is saved.

Excellent comment, Frank

As to Billy Graham being a Mason, with "secret handshakes" and all, it's exactly this kind of stuff lends support to the idea of conspiracy. Bible calls it gossip, or maybe slander.

I hope that people have pointed out this was a meeting of two heretics? Billy Graham Believes Catholic Doctrine of Salvation Without Bible, Gospel, or Name of Christ. The only thing that is known for certain about Mitt Romney he is a Mormon, so it is good to ask, Is Mormonism Christian?--Is It Just a Small Group of Evangelicals Who Have a Problem with Mormonism?

Both need to be prayed for that they become Christian.

if they show themselves, genuinely born again
You sure you can tell?

"A man may believe all the truth contained in Scripture so far as he is acquainted with it, and he may be familiar with far more than are many genuine Christians. He may have studied the Bible for a longer time, and so his faith may grasp much which they have not yet reached"
"Call the above a mere historical faith if you will, yet Scripture also teaches that people may possess a faith which is more than the product of mere nature, which is of the Holy Spirit, and yet which is a non-saving one. This faith which we now allude to has two ingredients which neither education nor self-effort can produce: spiritual light and a Divine power moving the mind to assent. Now a man may have both illumination and inclination from heaven, and yet not be regenerated. We have a solemn proof of this in Hebrews 6:4. There we read of a company of apostates, concerning whom it is said, "It is impossible . . . to renew them again unto repentance." Yet of these we are told that they were "enlightened," which means that they not only perceived it, but were inclined toward and embraced it; and both because they were "partakers of the Holy Spirit." (A.W.Pink)

jpw, God is a globalist, except Israel is his chosen country over others. God does look at other countries. The Prophetic Enemies of Israel will suffer greatly for this, and only nations that support and help Israel are going to be blessed.

Ah, gentlemen, here is a straightforward assessment of Romney.

Richard Kirsch wrote:
When he entered politics, running for U.S. senator and then governor of Massachusetts, Romney said whatever he had to say in order to win votes in that liberal state, even on issues with honest and profound moral divides, like abortion. Since he had to be pro-choice [ Romney’s...Abortion Positions ] to be elected governor, he was pro-choice. The same was true for supporting gun control. [ Romney ...on Gun Control... ]And when he negotiated a bipartisan health care plan, he bragged that it would be a model for the nation.
