Church of England waters down baptism

The Anglican Church has introduced a revised version of its baptismal service that replaces language deemed “inaccessible” to unchurched people. In particular, the new ceremony removes promises that parents and godparents had previously made to repent of sin and to “reject the devil.” The archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, supports the change.

Even though attendance at British Anglican congregations is generally quite low, many unchurched parents still wish to have newborns baptized. “In some instances,” the Anglican Liturgy Commission notes, “there are few people present [at a baptism] who have any real understanding of the Church’s language and symbolism.”

The current liturgy, which dates to 1998, has Anglican ministers ask parents if they “repent of the sins that separate us from God,” as well as renounce the devil and “rebellion against God.” The new text simply asks them, on behalf of ...

John 3 speaks of water baptism but its chief emphasis is on the baptism of the Spirit read the chapter.

31 He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.

32 And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony.

33 He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true.

34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.

35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.

Because God is Infinite Justice the Covenant of Redemption had to appease all sins due wrath and impute a God-righteousness. Only the Son of God who was truly God and man, and the light and life of men could satisfy the
requirements given to the first Adam-a living soul earthy. The Covenant of Life opened is open to all without distinction but it is spiritual and only the last Adam is a life giving spirit.

10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?
11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.
12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
No infant baptism in those verses....

Presbys fabricated their version of covenant theology to suit their Sacral view of society (viz. church and state are same) which means they have to include all unbelievers in the Church! (Like their Mama church) So don't look for biblical answers from them!

The Anglican Church should reject infant baptism entirely, if they want to be Biblically correct.
God ordained in His Covenant made with His elect initiated with Abraham at Genesis 17, that the infants of Covenanted parents may be received into the Covenant. Therefore to be "Biblically correct" baptising the infants of Covenanted parents is what God commands and requires of His Church. Trust in God for His grace.

John Y, just because one is saved, and has the Holy Spirit does not mean they are infallible. If that were the case, there wouldn't be so many denominations and disagreements among the brethren concerning theology. Our soul, and spirit are redeemed, but our flesh is not, so it is impossible to be perfect in thought, word, and deed like our Lord Jesus Christ. Until we go to be with the Lord, and receive our glorified bodies, we are still of a finite mind, and can never fully comprehend the things of God.

John Yurich, show me where in the scriptures it states that salvation is by justification by faith in Jesus alone, and where in the scriptures it states that trusting in Jesus alone means the same thing as salvation is by justification by faith in Jesus alone, and show me in the scriptures where Christ created a Lutheran church. And show me in the scriptures where Jesus is God.

John, do you believe all Roman Catholics who claim to embrace Christ as their Lord and Savior, yet hold onto, believe, and practice Roman doctrine are born again? Every person who sits around you each Sunday will claim that they embrace Christ as Lord and Savior...my question is whether or not you believe those people are born again. Thanks.

Why would the Church of England care that the unchurched parents and godparents would feel uncomfortable making promes to "repent of sin" and to "reject the devil"? The unchurched parents and godparents are insane in the first place not to attend church.
Excellent comment John.
You pose a good question as to why the CofE "cares" about this.
The Liberalism in the CofE/Anglicans and many other churches today is bowing to the worldly convictions of their religion. Their religion is obviously unbiblical and unchristian. Basically they are ignorant and blind as Ephesians 4:18 teaches.

Eph 4:17 .... as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, 18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: 19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

Spirit guided individuals are infallible?! Duh!

Think about it silly. If that were the case no 2 born again believers would ever disagree on anything!

Thanks for your input.
Do you suppose that without the Holy Spirit even plain common sense and logic (not necessarily related to the spiritual realm) are also impossible?
The Adamic nature can produce "plain common sense and logic" and often that ranges from what other Adamic natures would see as stupid, brilliant or something in between. However all those opinions are useless opinions by Adamic Natures for the Adamic nature is totally corrupt:

For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
(Romans 7:18)

Better to be thinking and speaking in the Spirit than by means of the Adamic Nature. With some people that is currently impossible as all they have is an Adamic Nature. One has to be saved, that is, born again in order to get beyond thinking and speaking strictly by
means of an Adamic Nature.

A study of the two natures in a born again person, but only a born again person for the non born again have only one nature, is a fascinating Bible study.
