Mitt Romney Visits Rev. Billy Graham: ‘Prayer Is the Most Helpful Thing You Can Do For Me’

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney met Thursday with Rev. Billy Graham, and the aging evangelist pledged to do “all I can” to help the GOP nominee win the presidency.

Romney went to see Graham and his son, the Rev. Franklin Graham, at the elderly evangelist’s mountaintop home in the mountains of western North Carolina.

“Prayer is the most helpful thing you can do for me,” Romney told the 93-year-old Graham.

Frank thankyou. Since you are the only one who proffered an actual answer to the question I will respond to you.

You begin quote "if a Catholic professes that Christ has come in the flesh" - that is the opposite of the sentence used in Scripture, which says "every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh" so your answer has begun with an antithesis. In continuation from this point you have established your rejection of the catholic position. However regardless of the various heresies you perceive practiced within the RCC the original inference of 1John4V3 is not responded to in your post.

Hence the question again;
How do you get the spirit of antichrist to confess he does not accept that Jesus came in the flesh?

Yes, there used to be forums as well as news threads, and there was a forum for everything, doctrines, practice, church affiliation, personal etc. It is a great shame they have gone.

This is why all sorts of comments appear in the news threads, as off topic asides. There is no choice. (Maybe this is an example of eugenics, eh jp?)

Testimony is very biblical, and is always edifying to the saints. Even a potted version is worthwhile posting up Christopher. I look forward to hearing about your encounter with the Lord.

Frank, your testimony is a great encouragement, thanks. Is anything too hard for the Lord? What a glorious thing true conversion is!

And yes, it is all finished, there is no more needful, save to maintain faith in Jesus Christ to the end. Unbelief is the big enemy, and it leads to trying to deserve eternal life by works. Thanks be to God for his grace that keeps us believing in the good works of his Son.

Christ can go elbow deep into the murkiest, most stagnant mud, filled with every vile thing, pull up the filthiest of creatures, full of every sin, and say, "follow me".

Well said Christopher. I was raised Catholic, became an agnostic and then went into New Age stuff. Studied a little with the Mormons and then came to Christ at the age of 34 and that was almost 32 years ago. I was the worst sinner that ever lived prior to coming to Christ and I am the chiefest of sinners that belongs to Christ. And I do not say that in some pious, humble, or arrogant way; it simply is the truth. The more I learn about Christ, the more I realize how holy He is and how unholy I am.

It sounds like you are a new believer? If so, welcome to the family of God. If you ever need help with anything, or another opinion of something, let me know. But remember, only one can be your true Teacher and that is the Spirit Himself. Christ asks each of us, "but who do you say I am"?

I have loved ones who are unsaved; thanks for the encouraging comments.

Could it possibly be any worse than Barry maintaining his national pulpit to spread his anti-Christ philosophy?

Besides which, I don't recall hearing anything of Romney's father spreading "his heretical beliefs" when he was governor of Michigan.

Ah Jim, you do miss the details when talking your generalities.

And to know that he has given spiritual life to a dead sinner, whereby his life is transformed for eternity. The natural man, for all his pomp and show and great boastings and mockings, will ne'er attain to it. To understand and confess that "God was manifest in the flesh" is no small matter, for which God only is to be praised.

Not to hear any clapping, or "hey, good job", but to remind anyone who is down over an unsaved loved one, friend, etc. that no matter how bleak the situation or lost the person may seem, there is hope. As long as they have the breath of life, there is hope through persistence and prayer.

Christ can go elbow deep into the murkiest, most stagnant mud, filled with every vile thing, pull up the filthiest of creatures, full of every sin, and say, "follow me".

The book of First John was written that you may know that you have eternal life. He wrote many things one may use as a test to make your calling and election sure. The book starts by pointing out if we walk in darkness and say we know him we are liars, however if we walk in the light as He is in the light, His blood cleanses us from our sin. So,to quote a famous preacher, it is not the perfection but the direction of our life that helps us discern whether we are born from above. Amen to Jim saying Romney does not need a national pulpit to spread his heretical beliefs, but you cannot point to any national political speech in which he has done that. But I have heard the president quote from what he termed the "Holy Qaran."

Yes, sometimes when I simply think what God has done for me, it is so hard for me to express my gratitude in words. For reasons only He can comprehend, He elected me, called me and gave me knowledge that Jesus is truly God in the flesh and my Lord and Savior. The natural man is full of pomp and pride, and they refuse to repent of their sins and put their total trust in Christ's atonement, but they are truly blind and have veils over their faces.

You could simply ask them questions or watch how they worship and see if they have redefined Christ. If they have redefined Him as much of the "professing" church does, then they do not accept that the true Jesus/Messiah has come in the flesh.

So, if a Catholic professes that Christ has come in the flesh, I could listen to what they say about Christ and how they worship Him and I could then conclude they have the spirit of antichrist.

The admonition was given for a reason.

John U.K., another problem with the mormon part of the trio, Roman Catholics, Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses, is that it has Jesus as too much flesh. He started out as flesh and became a god, which Mormons can also. But perhaps comments from the "pastors" of Mitt Romney and John Huntsman would be of further aid.

Romney’s and Huntsman’s “pastors” on historic Christianity.

No, Mitty doesn't need a national pulpit to spread his heretical beliefs.

What an interesting and thought provoking thread; can we always or even mostly tell whether someone is a brother or sister in Christ and then what do we do with that discernment? Eve knew that the serpent wasn’t God, but she dialogued with him anyway. When confronted by Satan, Christ corrected him and then dismissed him entirely. To me this is the way we should view and live out this issue. All true Christians are being led by the Spirit, but all in different ways and each are not gifted in the same ways. So, I may be able to ascertain that someone is a Tare, while others may not be able to do that. I believe this issue is ultimately one of discernment and since discernment is a gift, some have more of it than others. Each of us “should” draw a line in the sand and reason that if someone crosses over this line, we will not fellowship with them as a brother; notice I am not saying they aren’t necessarily my brother. My line will be different from others and we all will be held accountable. I like to remember that the early church didn’t accept Paul until Barnabas vouched for him.
This is an area where I welcome correction.

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

The method of trying the spirits?

Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God; because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

"In the apostolic age, there was the greatest outpouring of the Spirit of God that ever was; both as to his extraordinary influences and gifts, and his ordinary operations, in convincing, converting, enlightening, and sanctifying the souls of men. But as the influences of the true Spirit abounded, so counterfeits did also abound: the devil was abundant in mimicking, both the ordinary and extraordinary influences of the Spirit of God, as is manifest by innumerable passages of the apostles' writings. This made it very necessary that the church of Christ should be furnished with some certain rules, distinguishing and clear marks, by which she might proceed safely in judging of the true from the false without danger of being imposed upon. The giving of such rules is the plain design of this chapter, where we have this matter more expressly and fully treated of than any where else in the Bible." (Jonathan Edwards)

This is THE battle and Satans soldiers will definitely infiltrate the ranks of believers seeking to pollute the witness of the church, by covert and insidious means. Satans weapons such as salvation by works and counterfeit faith are old and modern deceptions.
Jarsel, if you are able to "make your calling and election sure", how come you don't think others can do the same?

How does your presbytery make decisions on the spirituality of others, when appointing pastors etc.?

How do your leaders decide whether or not to allow me into membership of your church?

Is Satan greater than "he that is within you"?

Is the Christian church full of dummies who can not discern between a child of God and a child of the devil?

I'm sorry to say this, but it truly appears as though you leave out the ministry of the Holy Ghost in the business of the church.
