Pope cancels trip to Rome university after protests
Pope Benedict XVI has canceled his visit to Rome's secular La Sapienza university following a protest letter signed by 67 of 4,500 professors and complaints by thousands of students that he devalues science.

But the Vatican says the pope's views were distorted and taken out of historic context and that his speech will still be sent to the university even though the pontiff will not deliver it.

"It was considered opportune to skip the event," Vatican sources told the Associated Press.

Such a cancellation of a scheduled papal event is extremely rare, and the few times it has happened in recent decades, the Vatican cited security concerns. When news of the cancellation reached the campus on Tuesday, students in a political sciences hall broke into applause. ...

I don't think he does. Revelation and what science studies come from the same source. It would be wrong to devalue the study of what comes from God.

But I suspect the pope devalues "scientism", the sort of "science" that proclaims things to be true when no scientist has ever proved them to be true.

Evolution and man-made global warming could be examples of scientism.

If there was no purgatory and if there is no rapture there, why does St. Paul talk about being saved by fire and Jesus teaching about a world to come in which certain sins are forgiven or not forgiven.
So the Pope devalues science. A lot of Christians do because the biblical record is more important and reliable.

Saint Terry,

"Sorry no rapture in purgatory"

Well, a different sort of "rapture". Those in purgatory are constantly being "raptured" into heaven as they reach a state of perfection.

"For are they either dead or alive that are raptured, the dead first."

I'll have to take your word for it on this one. I don't know.

"Is a person dead in purgatory, or kinda alive?"

Like those in heaven and hell this side of Judgment Day, their bodies are dead, but their souls are fully alive.

Lance, the bible doesn't say exactly when this catching away will occur. Those caught up are people who have repented of their sins, are born again, and have hearts committed solely to Jesus Christ; this is His bride.

I wonder what the Reformers had to say about the pre-trib rapture. Since it's so important, they must have written whole volumes on it.

Jim Lincoln: Thanks for Clarifying your faith in The Pre-Millenial/Pre-Tribulation Rapture of The True Church of The Lord Jesus Christ !

Albeit, your reference(d) material is indeed held in question; as you are using a document, "Reversing the Reformation, The (Roman)Catholic/(New)Evangelical Accord Examined", which is Literally Riddled and Chock-Full of so-called "Biblical" quotations from A Satanic-Vaticanist Backed/Bought/Bogus 'Translation' (really Per-Version) of The Authorized Holy Bible:

The Satanic-Vaticanist Per-Version Called The "New American Standard Version/'Bible'" !

It was This Covert Satanic-Vaticanist Per-Version of The Authorized Holy Bible; which is Based On 2nd Century Heretical Arian/Alexandrian Perverted "New Testament" Greek Manuscripts and Codices Vaticanus/Sinaticus that I, while a student at Bob Jones University during the 1980s, had just about "shoved down my throat": instead of The God-Honored, God-Blessed & Heaven-Preserved Authorized "King James" Version of The Authorized Holy Bible/Scripture(s)-- which incidentially is Based on The Most Accurate, God-Honored, Christ Magnifying Orthodox/Trinitarian Byzantine New Testament Greek Manuscripts or Textus Receptus !

You Do Keep The "Baby"; But You're Still Drinking Its Filthy "Bath-Water" ! ! !

No, pre-tribulation rapture is the invention of God. Evidence for the Pre-Trib Rapture part 1 and Evidence for the Pre-Trib Rapture part 2.

Gil Rugh said or, wrote:
The rapture is the climatic event that will usher the Church of Jesus Christ into the presence of God - holy, blameless and without reproach.

How do we know? The literal truth of the Bible, as given by God to man, provides much evidence. This two part study gives seven reasons for anticipating that the Church will be 'caught up' to meet Jesus Christ 'in the air.' The bible indicates this will be prior to the seven year period of time, when God will resume His work with the nation of Israel, identified as 'the Tribulation.'

What impact should this have on the Church in the world today? How should we be living - individually and corporately? The Bible answers these questions for us and makes clear how important it is for us to live with this anticipation and hope.

Christian and Catholics -- never together!

AntiVaticanistAmerican: It is very hard to determine or detect whether those who hold and propagate such Romanist Theology are indeed misguided Protestants themselves; or if they are the very Vatican "Jesuits" that Alberto Rivera spoke of who infiltrate, penetrate and neutralise Historic Protestant Churches for their eventual Total Destruction or Union with Rome!

As we Tertullianists know that Premillenialism and a Pretribulation Rapture is no invention of Rome, the Papacy, Her Jesuits or Augustinian Theologians.

Sad to say that Jim Lincoln said Nary a word on How The Satanic Vatican "devalues" Christianity:

As In Their Hell-Spawned Deceptive Doctrine of Devils; which teaches that The Physical 'Temporal' Roman-"Church" Replaced The Physical Nation & State of "Israel"--

Such "Replacement" Theology Has Its Origins & Antecedents In Satanic-Vaticanist/Roman-"Catholic"-Cultic Excessive/Extreme Augustinian ("City of God") so-called "Covenant" Theology !

*NOTE: By The Way, This Satanic-Vaticanist/Roman-"Catholic"-Cultic so-called Excessive/Extreme Augustinian ("City of God") "Covenant" Theology; was Not TOTALLY Shaken-Off and/or Forsaken By Some Groups of Post-1517-Roman-"Catholic"-'Reformed'-'Protestantism':

Hence, some so-called "Reformed" 'Protestants' (yea, some who even post on this very sermonaudio website) will continue to support/back/defend/advocate/accept/promulgate the aforesaid Satanic-Vaticanist Excessive Augustinian "Covenant" Theology: to the degree of Attacking/Denying/Disparaging/Belittling/Negating/Rejecting The Pre-1517-Historic Protestant Biblical-Literalist Theology of Apostolic/Post-Apostolic Tertullian (Montanist/Albigensian/Waldensian/Wycliffian) Pre-Millenial/Pre-Tribulation-Rapture Dispensationalist Theology ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

If anyone has access to a university library, one may want to find some of William Carroll's work on the Galileo controversy. He knows his history quite well and is something of an expert on the subject.

Thank you for your kind comments, Michael, and Neil, I think you must have picked the best article out of the series, A Tale of Jesuit Cloak and Dagger Intrigue in Counter Reformation Rome, THE JESUITS SACRIFICE GALILEO FOR THE MASS and WHY GALILEO HAD TO BE NEUTRALISED.

So, thanks for getting me to look those articles up.

Interesting theory here:
www.ianpaisley.org/article.asp?ArtKey=galileo2

..that Galileo's real "sin" was challenging, by implication, Aristotelian philosophy upon which RCC doctrines hang, particularly the Eucharist.

It is certain that Aquinas "baptized" much of Aristotle's empirical philosophy for the RCC.
