Why Evangelical Leaders Love Pope Benedict XVI (And His Resignation)

Pope Benedict XVI, who announced his resignation Monday after eight years as head of the Roman Catholic Church, will leave a legacy of strong theology, cooperation with evangelicals and a hardline conservative stance on social issues, evangelical leaders and observers say.

As pope, the German Joseph Ratzinger championed a "culture of life" on issues such as abortion, encouraged the "new evangelism" of the church, and issued the first papal tweet. Benedict, 85, cited age and deteriorating strength as reasons for his resignation.

Benedict stepped into a difficult role as an intellectual and administrator following John Paul II, the first "celebrity pope," said Carl Trueman, professor of church history at Westminster Theological Seminary. ...

JOHN UK...I was giving an example of believing Pharisees, but I think Lurker was referencing Pharisees somewhere else in scripture. I forget exactly where, I would look it up but you already said they had an excuse. I believe some Christians who were born again within the Catholic church would be more likely to fall into error than you. They listen to the priest who teach false doctrine who themselves learned it from their predecessors.

Is this your Bible verse about pharisees who believed yet were still engaging in law-work? Well, certainly they were Jews.

These brethren were enraged because in Paul's preaching he was telling Jews to cast off the shadow and focus upon the reality.

Without any New Testament instruction, of course it was difficult for these Jews to cast off the old traditions and customs, the circumcision etc.

But Paul was correct! And yet at this time of the Old Covenant becoming obsolete, there would be a time of transition before the New Covenant was fully implemented. Therefore we may excuse these brethren for not understanding fully the reality of freedom in Christ.

But not so the RCC! They have the full revelation of scripture, yet JFJ is wanting to excuse them for not getting their doctrine spot on! That maybe, just maybe, despite believing in magicians who bring you to new birth and wizards who produce Jesus out of an old loaf, they might just be saved yet ignorant!

John, I am a simple disciple who simply believed, called upon the name of the Lord and was saved. How come I know so much more than popes, priests, cardinals, theologians of the RCC who got "visits" from Peter and Paul et al?

The Pharisees who believed in Jesus but were confused about obeying the Law to remain saved were still Christians, weren't they?
Oh you mean the Judaizers! You think they were Christian? Seriously?!

Perhaps you should read what Paul had to say about them and the names he called them and then decide for yourself whether they were Christians or not.

John U.K., does a good job of pointing out about The Sacraments... in Catholics life, which of course why we can also point out, Is A Catholic Christian An Oxymoron? (PDF).

The emphasis that Roman Catholics, Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses (PDF) put upon works salvation mean these three groups are much more closer to each other than they are to Christians.

The Romish Church worships a lot of things besides God and Jesus, but have a Satanic affection for Mary as well, Hail Mary?

The Jesus of the Bible says of salvation, "With man it is impossible." But the RCC says, "Sure, we can get you salvation - you need to be born again, which happens when the magic-show priest sprinkles you with a bit of water. Then you can receive Christ when the magic-show priest produces him from a bit of bread."

2. Which particular Pharisees are you referring to? A Bible verse would be helpful. Thank you.

On Pharisees...
Phil 3:
7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. 8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ"

Question J4J
Which saves - Dung - or Jesus???

With that said, how can the claim that they worship Jesus as their Lord and savior, but at the same time, completely disregard His commandments and snicker at clear Biblical doctrine? To love Christ is to keep His commandments...does this system truly love Christ, or do they love their wealth, power, rituals, and hypnotic hold that they have on their flock?
Christopher000

Or in other words apart from spirit and truth they worship God in vain, in teaching as doctrine the precepts of man, 'twisting' the Scriptures to their own destruction, suppressing the knowledge of the Truth, God Himself has told us

Must be a Roman Catholic whose version of truth is based upon the Roman Catholic Traditions. MENS WORDS!!

IE: Popes, cardinals, bishops, priests 'WORDS' are just as true as the Bible!!! Even if different.

All heresy including the Vatican's is obtained by adding the word of sinners to the Bible. A trick Rome has been up to for centuries. They even have a doctrine for it called "Traditions." This is how the RCC authenticates idolatry.

RCC remains as always the False Witness from top to bottom.

The Jehovah's Witnesses claim to worship Christ but I think most would agree that it is a false religion/cult, irregardless of their claim.
Anyway, here's how I see it: If anyone loves God/Christ, then they will do their very best to follow His commandments...all 600+ of them, from
what I understand.
The Holy Spirit, through John, commanded us not to add to or subtract from His word. The Roman church has done this very thing throughout the centuries. Most of its doctrines, rituals, and dogmas are extra-biblical, tradition based, and many of them are diametrically opposed to clear doctrine. How does any Roman Catholic who knows their Bible, rationalize this to the point that they take part in the heresies and remain comfortably within the church?
Also, I'd still like to hear comments concerning Joes resignation, and potential arrest for crimes against humanity. Joe is supposedly the latest Pope in a long, unbroken line, who was appointed by God himself 8 years ago, speaking infalliblly ever since.

By "co-mediatrix" maryolatry the Roman Catholic false witness is stealing from God and Christ Crucified.
The implication of this idolatry is to suggest Christ - the Crucified Christ - is not crucial to salvation.

The implication of this idolatry is to assert that mary (the Roman reinvention of mary)(idolatry) has the same authority as Christ. This seeks to diminish the authority of Jesus to human equivalence, thus is an attack upon HIS deity. Plain old Blasphemy again by Vatican and Roman Catholic false and pagan religious practice.

The RCC religious philosopy is
Completely unBiblical.
And is NOT recorded in the Gospel.
Thus the Bible and the Gospel, the very Word of God, is compromised by this insidious satanic Roman Catholic false witness.

May its supporters see the light one day and become REAL Biblical Christians, only by the grace of God.

"2Peter 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction."

Roman Catholicism is False Witness.
'Christians' can SEE this!
The Reformation proves this!

First of all, I want to give an overdue thanks to Michael Hranek for his gracious admonition in a previous thread. May God bless you as you preach His Word. Thanks also to Chris000 for reminding us to speak the truth in love. Our Lord was not only full of truth but full of grace and truth. I know I have not always been careful and gracious at times with my posts and ask forgiveness from my brothers and sisters in the Lord. Luker makes a great point. Although it is said of Christ that all bore witness of His gracious words, some of His most stern words and sharpest rebukes were to those who mixed the truth of God with the commandments of men.
