With tensions high in Mideast, evangelical Christians tighten embrace of Israel
Servants to Christ is one of scores of evangelical Christian organizations working in Israel on a variety of charitable missions. And its presence is just one example of the increasingly tight embrace of the Jewish state by both the leadership of American evangelical churches and organizations and their grass-roots supporters.
Pro-Israel rhetoric — fueled in part by increasing tensions in the Middle East over Iran's nuclear program and the threat it might pose to the Jewish state — is a staple of many U.S. evangelical leaders' speeches and sermons....
Table wrote: Thankfully, the Evangelical rhetoric has changed from desiring the murder of all Jews in Luther's day to embracing them today as Jesus says to love even our enemies.
Why bring up Luther out of thin air, I wonder? Catholics, who are the most common Luther-bashers, fallaciously think that discrediting him, ad hominem, somehow invalidates evangelicalism.
But far more important, it's heresy to say keeping the 2nd Table is vital for salvation. No one is justified by works of the Law, Gal. 2:16.
Thankfully, the Evangelical rhetoric has changed from desiring the murder of all Jews in Luther's day to embracing them today as Jesus says to love even our enemies.
Since Luther was so down (and so wrong) on the Jews, he probably misread all soteriolical verses only through his Reformation lens because he couldn't stomach considering that 1st Century Judaism had a heavenward trajectory. When he considered their propitious works, he thought them all evil.
Whereas Paul was merely meaning that the ceremonial (e.g., dietary, circumcision) laws were not salvific. However, obedience to the second table remains vital for salvation -- even for today -- just as Jesus taught.
Neil, that's Matthew 24. Dispensationalism has really bifurcated God's Bride. The gentile was placed on the olive tree while some natural limbs were removed. Don't they know that God's Jewish people dwell in the Bride and not in a nation-state?
”God blesses those who bless the Jews and curses whoever curses the Jews…”
This is madness, an utter misreading & misapplication of Gen. 12:3. American evangelicals have become ”useful idiots” for unbelieving Israel.
What did Christians do during the Jewish Wars? Did they ”have the Jews' back“ during the Siege of Jerusalem? No; so far as anyone knows, they obeyed Christ & skipped town.
