27 Dead in Connecticut School Shooting
NEWTOWN, Conn. (AP) — A shooting at a Connecticut elementary school Friday left 27 people dead, including 18 children, an official said.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation was still under way. Another official, speaking on condition of anonymity for the same reason, said the gunman at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown was killed and apparently had two guns.

A law enforcement official in Washington said the attacker was a 20-year-old man with ties to the school and that one of the guns was a .223-caliber rifle. The official also said that New Jersey State Police were searching a location in that state in connection with the shootings. That official spoke on the condition of anonymity because the source was not authorized to speak on the record about the developing criminal investigation.

Stephen Delgiadice said his 8-year-old daughter heard two big bangs and ...

Thanks for the explanation, UnpServ. Boy, let's hope they don't go that route because I have no doubt that everyone of them would be in great physical danger.

US: what's the comment about Westboro Baptist about?
Those are the nut jobs that show up at military funerals thanking God for dead soldiers because they see it as God's judgment on our nation for homosexuality. These insensitive people obviously don't care about showing the love and mercy of God which they claimed to have experienced. Last thing we need is their group protesting at the funerals of those who have gone through this tragedy.

US...I felt the same. Even more difficult when it happens so close to home. I appreciate those who commented.
I heard mental health issues mentioned, but when I hear about things like this, I can't help to blame the government, the public school system, the athiests, agnostics, and the parents. I think the teaching of the ridiculous theory of evolution combined with an increasingly Godless society are the reasons why, especially the younger generation, have become so callous, cold, and lack any empathy. We evolved from apes, and there is no God, so what is there to fear? We can do whatever we want without any repercussions since we just turn into dust and fade into oblivion. I don't know, this is just the way I see it. I blame the parents because it is their responsibility to bring up their children in Christ and the ways of Christian living.

It was hard to concentrate at work after hearing of this senseless tragedy. May the God of grace grant comfort to the families who lost loved ones and that community. Hopefully, the loons from Westboro Baptist won't show up for any of the funerals.

Now we wait for this heinous act to be opportunistically politicized by those who will call for setting politics aside.

7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

They've had guns on their soil since 1620 but there were very few massacres for 300 years. What's driving so many to massacre these days?

I would point out we should also pray that people learn from this incident and look into home schooling, Links To State Laws & Organizations For Homeschoolers also see, NET: Home School Nebraska

Private religious schools would also be a good alternative. I'm really surprised by the amount of crime in Connecticut. The Puritan ethos is completely dead in that state.

Pray that God would make His presence known here, granting mercy and love for all involved. I especially plead God's mercy for the families who lost children and lived ones, to include the shooter's family.
