'Gay' cleric: Christ did not die for sin
Church of England traditionalists, wearied by the battles over homosexuality in the church and the clergy, are about to take it on their spiritual chins once again when a leading "gay" cleric will tell listeners to BBC Radio 4 that Christianity's traditional teaching on Christ's crucifixion for the sins of mankind is "repulsive," "insane" and makes "God sound like a psychopath."

Rev. Jeffrey John, who was forced to withdraw before assuming a position as bishop in 2003 after it was learned he was in a longterm homosexual relationship, is scheduled to appear on Wednesday and will criticize ministers who use their Easter messages to preach that Jesus was sent to earth to die as an atonement for sin, reported the London Telegraph. ...

"Christian theology has taught the doctrine of "penal substitution" – that humans, alienated from God by their sins and unable to save themselves, could only be forgiven by God sending Christ as a substitute to suffer and die in their place.... "This is repulsive as well as nonsensical. It makes God sound like a psychopath. If a human behaved like this we'd say that they [sic] were a monster.""

Christian theology teaches it because the bible teaches it. It's not rocket science. An elementary ability to read is all that's needed.

Isaiah 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put [him] to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see [his] seed, he shall prolong [his] days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

If... IF ... people would just read their bibles (most any version will do for beginners) they wouldn't fall for the lies of the wolves. It's hard to feel sorrow for deceived people who care so little for their eternal fate to willingly entrust it to a man; any man.

Mike H,
Yes, you're right. Many of us who take the word literally need to be humbled and pray for power and change in our lives instead of always complaining about the doubters inside and outside the Church. Good point ...if I understood you correctly. By the way, I was RCC for a while also.

Faithful Remnant,

With the likes of so much of what the homosexuals or other sinners see in the church today why wouldn't they be emboldened to blaspheme God?

We need to let the fear of the LORD begin again with us. And when they see men and women on fire for God because He is worthy to be obeyed, worth more than our own lives, our comfort and our ease. Men that God gives backbone to stand up for the truth against sin then by the grace of God we might see a change in the attitude of society.

Yep, he should be eliminated from the ranks of the Church of England and any other churches in England till he gets his doctrine right and quits calling God names. Some of these people today have no fear of challenging God and his prophets and apostles who went through so much persecution and death to give us the testimony of the Scriptures which denies the validity of the homosexual lifestyle.

Poor foolish girly-man. He plays at being a cleric, and denies the Lord. He prefers to be happily on his way to a Godless eternity. All so he can justify having a boyfriend.
