CBS News anchorman Dan Rather apologized Wednesday for “an embarrassing and regrettable error in judgment” by speaking at a Democratic Party fund-raiser in Texas last month.
DONORS PAID as much as $1,000 to hear Rather on March 21 at a party held in the back yard of a friend, Austin City Council member Will Wynn, The Washington Post reported.
News organizations usually set strict rules to maintain the appearance of impartiality among their correspondents. CBS News prohibits participation in political fund-raisers.
“It was a serious mistake, which I acknowledge,” Rather said in a statement. “No one believes more strongly in CBS News standards than I do, and I have let those standards down.”
