Hobby Lobby thinks the Bible can save America. Now its museum has to convince its critics.
Steve Green was 4 years old when he first encountered the Bible. He remembers sitting in a waiting room at a hospital, looking through a Bible picture book. He grew up in a deeply religious, evangelical family, and so his interest in the Bible only grew from there. His father, David Green, came from a family of preachers, and built his business, the craft giant Hobby Lobby, around that faith. Steve Green credits their $3 billion-plus success story to God, and the good book.

In 2009, after Steve Green had become Hobby Lobby president, and a few years before Hobby Lobby would win a high-profile Supreme Court case that said family-owned companies didn’t have to pay for contraception, Green began to acquire biblical artifacts. When he started, he explained in a later interview, he was just looking to buy an object or two. But then, he said, “we kept having opportunities being presented, and we just ...

Study the Bible with the King of Rock

Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C.,
has published a new Bible reading plan for Psalms featuring notes from Elvis Presley’s personal Bible. Called “Rockin’ Through the Psalms with the ‘King,’” the plan is designed for the YouVersion Bible app. That’s a great name for a Bible for the “me” generation, and no one represents that generation better than Elvis. As the “king of rock & roll,” he was one of the fathers of the music that has done more to destroy biblical morality in modern society than any other one thing.
a television interview last week in memory of the 40th anniversary of Elvis’s death, his wife of six years, Priscilla, mentioned the multiple affairs that the rock & roll king had during their marriage. She said, “Living a lifestyle of rock & roll is difficult, because it’s that old saying, you know, sex, drugs, and rock & roll. It is there.” When the interviewer asked, “He was living that life?” Priscilla replied, “They all did.” “He wasn’t faithful.”
Titus 1:16
"They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him-
being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate"

Truth left the building.

PBS? the one I had read from that source was quite detailed - - and somewhat hostile to the museum, even by just by the slant of the article. If you look at all the details and some appears to be grudgingly given by PBS, You'll get a lot of information on the history of the museum.

I know there's another thread that was knocking The Washington Post here on SA, probably rightfully. However, the Washington Post had an article about the museum that was not hostile to it. While liberal Protestants are mentioned in this article the Catholics who are working with Green aren't.

I have to say I would think it would have been better to put it in Dallas or New York City if they wanted a coherent Christian message coming from the Bible Museum. To make the powers that be in Washington DC happy, they will have to tone that down. (Hobby Lobby’s Steve Green has big plans for his Bible museum in Washington

This article was written about 3 years ago. It is still informative.

Anytime a museum seeks to purchase artifacts, how they were obtained often goes unnoticed or explored. In ancient times, whole armies raided countries of everything they owned. But, with the rise of Isis, biblical artifacts are quick for the taking. But, the Green family returned the artifacts and that's about as good as your getting.. You think the museum of Natural history hasn't stolen a few bones, yep they have.

David Green also wrote a good book about how his business came to be.

I would love to visit and explore myself. Really fascinated by that sort of thing.
