Catholic Church Says Sexual Abuse by Clergy Still Unresolved With 25 New Cases: Annual Report
The Church's National Review Board for the Protection of Children and Young People found in May that between July 1, 2015, and June 30, 2016, there were 1,232 abused individuals who brought forth 1,318 allegations of sexual abuse by clergy.

"These allegations represent reports of abuse between a specific alleged victim and a specific alleged accused, whether the abuse was a single incident or a series of incidents over a period of time," noted the annual report.

"Compared to 2014 and 2015, the number of allegations has continued to increase. This is due to six dioceses experiencing an influx of allegations during the 2016 audit year. Of the increase in these six dioceses, two were due to bankruptcy proceedings and the other four were due to the state opening the statute of limitations." ...

John, the Priest you mentioned, along with all of the others, both exposed and those who got away with their dirty deeds, and the aftermath of the mass cover-up by the church itself for so long is really something to witness. The aftermath being the exposure itself, along with the billions paid out to the victims, of course, but what really stands out to me is that the world's Roman Catholics seem to have become callous to the issue. Now that the initial shock and awe are in the distant past, and even though pedophile Priests are still being exposed occasionally, and knowing that the church wilfully covered up the crimes, the church has recovered and is intact. Seems like any new news, any new scandals, etc., have become non-issues due to the frequency over the years. Kind of like the say it loud enough and often enough scenario, where people become so accustomed to something that the first time hearing or seeing something, they are disturbed and horrified, but as whatever becomes a regular occurrence for an extended length of time, that initial outrage fizzles, and while it may not ever be accepted, it's no longer a topic of conversation. The churches recovery, given the magnitude and ongoing crimes, is really something (to me).

I apologize for my satire in my response to Dave that included your name. It was pure satire. Clearly, by any metric you had no obligation to seek his forgiveness for responding to me

No offense meant Chris

But I think Dave was referring to you as the one 'supposed' man that was being slapped in the ear. {No smart mouth intended}You did fit both requirements, a 'supposed' man from Daves point of view and you responded to me

I'm sure Christopher will come along soon and beg for your forgiveness, but you are yet to provide the evidence(link) of the post you accuse me of. When I was surprised that just 6% of Catholic Priests in OZ were guilty, I was legitimately surprised. I wasn't joking. I really did think the number was much higher, every 12-14 yr old kid in my school knew. At least 4x that % of male employees at my high school were hooking up with the underage female students

Why don't you post a link to the post you are so upset about? It will show I wasn't callous to victims in OZ. When you call people names day after day without cause, you just condemn yourself.

John Y., the "Polka Priest," was just more of moral degenerate than most, he was not a fruitcake -- he was Satan's servant.
Reuters News wrote:
The investigation revealed a bully priest who manipulated and abused people wherever he went, and a Church hierarchy that, after receiving complaints about him, moved him on to places where he found new victims: a pattern that recurred in its handling of abuse cases worldwide.

Fortune killed himself in 1999 while on trial for 66 accounts of assault and rape of boys....

In a dramatic illustration of the loss of faith in the Church across the developed world, Ireland - where Catholicism was written into the constitution and had enormous influence throughout the 20th century - closed its embassy to the Holy See in 2011 as relations hit an all-time low.

A good article, and still appropriate since little has changed since it was written.

I guess I was a bit more sheltered in that regard. I never knew anything about abuse within the church until after moving to Rhode Island and all the story's began to break loose. Never watched much TV growing up, or the news, and living in the Midwest, never heard the topic come up.
I think it's interesting that so many seemed to know what was up, even back then, with the priests, etc, and apparently remained silent on it for the most part until the hope for some cash was on the table.
Aside from that though, I'm sure there was a lot of victim shame, and also a matter of eternal fear that the church held over many.
There was a former Catholic priest named Robert Kapoun who was known as the Polka Padre because he had a polka band and recorded several polka albums. Anyway, Kapoun was kicked out of the priesthood for being a fruitcake that abused boys. I never knew Kapoun was a fruitcake until it came up in the news.

Why do you think all the abuse victims from decades ago are just now coming forward? Like I said in a previous post, EVERY kid in my Public School including the Catholic kids(I grew up outside the Church) knew Priests and religious people in general were Pedophiles. In Junior High, we thought just about all religious people were pedophiles. And when we got to High School, that pedophile universe grew to include all the Male teachers, staff and counslers...at least they were after us, just the girls, and what girls they hooked up with didn't seem to mind

"By 2014, the Church also spent approximately $3 billion due to the scandal, with the money going to settlements with victims and child protection initiatives."

Wow...I didn't know the payouts amounted to that figure.
Some carriers were all but bankrupted, others dropped policies, and many churches were forced to close with assets being sold off.
I remember around here, the churches were passing special plates during each mass for attorneys funds. I couldn't believe it, nor could I believe they weren't being returned empty, considering what the attorneys were needed for.
The church seems to have recovered nicely from the scandal and it also seems most have become immune and hardened to any new news. The outrage seems to have waned.

SA picked an excellent article on the topic, of course to keep an up to track of Satan's little helpers -- the Catholic priests just keep the second URL of the following two handy,
