Amoral America? Many in US fear its moral decline - but say right and wrong are relative
Recent surveys suggest that most Americans are concerned about moral decline in the country. However, many – particularly in younger generations – do not consider morality to be unchanging.
A study by Lifeway, published this month, found that more than eight in ten of 1000 Americans polled agree with the statement, 'I am concerned about declining moral behavior in our nation' while nearly two in ten disagreed.
More than six in ten of those aged 45 or older said that right and wrong were unchanging. In the demographic aged 35 and under, fewer than four in ten agreed....
Christopher Brittain wrote: These developments not only call into question the explanation for the decline of liberal churches offered by Kelley, Douthat and Eberstadt; it also implies that the challenges confronting both liberal and conservative churches in Europe and the United States may be more alike than is often assumed. Douthat's article opens up a crack of acknowledgement in this direction, when he notes that the most successful churches in the United States are "theologically shallow, preaching a gospel of health and wealth rather than the full New Testament message." Similarly, Stanley Hauerwas - no friend of liberal Christianity - has accused conservative American Protestants of being unable to distinguish between their faith in God and loyalty to their country. Intriguingly, his criticism of conservative evangelicals sounds remarkably similar to Douthat's accusation against liberal Christianity: "the churches to which they go do little to challenge the secular presumptions that form their lives."...

Its called Liberalism, and has infected the church, politics and subsequently the society. Not only in America but the western world.
As for the observation about the "younger generation" - This demonstrates the area of humanity which has become more "Amoral" - in comparison to previous generations. The slide downwards is identified in the next generation after the previous one. A comparison of moral standards illustrates the downward trend. Homosexuality and the fact that in these modern times it has been accepted by this generation compared to the last one who thought it to be perversion, vile and filth. Even the visible "church?" has become morally defective today.
Signs of the times?? The end is near?? Why should God accept these people who reject Him and His Scriptures? Who indeed have become Sodom and Gomorrah today? Thus since He destroyed the last S&G to remain consistent in His justice He must destroy the current one.

Phil Johnson wrote: ...America’s moral decline has accelerated dramatically since evangelicals became politically aggressive in the late 1970s....they have been remarkably ineffective when it comes to using politics to reverse America’s moral and spiritual decline. In fact, if you measure their success or failure according to their own stated political ambitions, evangelicals have failed spectacularly in America’s political arena. Over the past quarter-century, they have not accomplished any of their long-term legislative or constitutional goals.
Worst of all, during that same period of time, the evangelical movement has completely lost its spiritual influence, because the evangelical segment of the church has grown increasingly worldly. Evangelicals have become accustomed to compromise. They have abandoned (or else are in the process of abandoning) virtually all the doctrinal distinctives that made them distinct from Roman Catholics and nominal Christians whose faith amounts to a kind of civil religion. Evangelicals have pretty much forfeited whatever real moral and spiritual authority their movement ever had.
