Poll: More say Bible is 'book of fables' than 'word of God'

A record low percentage of Americans believe that the Bible is "actual word of God," with more calling it a "book of fables," similar to Aesop's, according to a new survey.

Gallup reports that just 24 percent believe the Bible should be taken "literally, word for word."

Millions are abandoning the faith because of this...oh, wait they're not, I don't go where the wind is blowing, the Bible is indeed the inspired and infallible, word of God.

I saw three different polls the other day.

1. 70% of Americans claim to be Christians.

2. About 50% of Christians (or evangelicals) say that their works help them get to Heaven.

3. 35% of Americans read the Bible at least once a week.

Well... something doesn't quite add up. Now according to John the other 35% of "Christians" are under demonic influence, and the 50% who think their works get them to Heaven are indeed sons of perdition.

Polls can be interesting, sure they can be helpful, but truth is not based on the majority.

John yurich.
Why then do you ignore god mate?
In 1 cor. 5:11.
God says you shouldn't even eat with someone who call themselves brother, and practices idolatry!
Now John, you've admitted that you don't take part in the parts of mass that aren't right, true?
That means that you, whilst taking part in the scriptural parts are worshipping with those that are practising the non scriptural parts, true?
John this that follow Roman Catholic doctrine, they're idolatrous.
God says, don't eat with such an one, you say, yes I am going to not only easy with them, but I'll worship with them.
Point is, why be so concerned as to god being the author of the Bible, when you do the opposite of what god tells you in that Bible.
Doesn't make sense, really does it John?

Anybody who denies that the Bible is the Word of God is not thinking logically and analytically and is under heavy demonic influence because logical and analytical thinking dictates that the Bible is the Word of God.

Only the Elect know that the Bible is the Word of God. Faith is the gift of God those who do not receive this gift do not know God or His Word.

The Liberals in the churches are an example of this they are religious reprobates who have convinced themselves to be religious and from that they practice religion in their own way. The Bible becomes a focus of their religion but never becomes the supernatural Word revealed only by grace. Sin dominates their hearts and minds becoming a tool of Satan to subvert the witness of the church.

"Mark 4:12 That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them."

thumbs up

the bible is a credible document of the life of the Messiah, the history to prepare for His coming and what happens until His Second and final coming.

we have incredible biblicists (we tend to finance church collections more than these men) who preserve ancient manuscripts, copies of the NT that are within just a handful of years to the time of CHrist, from many places that are consistent from one manuscript to the next. we have thousands of OT dead sea scrolls from generations who were reacting to the corruption of the temple, they were led to make copies of the bible...

the bible is inerrant, a letter from God to mankind...

it is the only holy book

Good for you John, in being a gospel preacher one cannot expect 100% results , indeed probably more like 0% but still---

2 Timothy 4:2-4
preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. ---ESV

Well Jim, no matter if the word has been hijacked, I am still an evangelical (simply means gospel-preacher), and anyone who preaches the gospel must needs be opposed to any who preach a false gospel, such as the RCC.

Besides which (in more detail) I am holding to 1689 Federalism, which will never have any truck with the RCC, holding doctrinal distinctives which take deep root, being biblical and all.

This is so true, and I'll give an example: The Lord opening the mouth of Balaam's Donkey, or even the burning bush, and many others.
People tend to believe anything we can see, hear, smell, and experience today. Anything else just can't be because it doesn't fit in with their senses.
Without the quickening of God, we wouldn't believe half of it either, the supernatural portions, that is.
Some don't believe because they see it as fanciful, some don't believe because they claim it's filled with errors, and others, because what kind of a God would wipe out entire tribes, kill baby's, order people to stone others, etc.? I read that one just yesterday by a sodomite/atheist.
A good example is my wife, and any other I know...if I were to discuss Balaams donkey, she'd probably start laughing uncontrollably.

Because John of UK it is indicative that,
Phil Johnson wrote:
...the evangelical movement has completely lost its spiritual influence, because the evangelical segment of the church has grown increasingly worldly. Evangelicals have become accustomed to compromise. They have abandoned (or else are in the process of abandoning) virtually all the doctrinal distinctives that made them distinct from Roman Catholics and nominal Christians whose faith amounts to a kind of civil religion. Evangelicals have pretty much forfeited whatever real moral and spiritual authority their movement ever had.

1 Tim 1:4Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.

1 Tim 4:7
But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

2 Tim4:4
And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Titus 1:14
Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

2 Pet1:16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty

Patterns of Evidence shows how Bible History of Exodus was subtily cast as myth by means of incorrect dating of Pharaoh of the Exodus.
Thus- those who "know what ain't so" KNOW the entirety of Exodus thru Joshua is all myth because secular Egyptology eras are wrong.

Why would anyone be interested in Gallup's statistics? Are they trying to work out how many the Almighty Christ has chosen to quicken and bring to faith?

See these --series-- articles on the Ankerberg site:
http://tinyurl.com/kr698px (How You Can Know the Bible is the Word of God?).
John MacArthur wrote:
We’re in a very difficult state. Those people who profess to be Christians, who profess to be evangelists trying to reach this society, are giving this culture the mediocrity it wants and turning away from the Word of God. Either they are not Christians, or they are the most carnal of carnal Christians. It’s one thing to be carnal while studying the Word of God. It’s another to have your carnality set the Bible aside. And I actually see this trend as a judgment from God....

...Eight centuries before Christ the northern kingdom, Israel, is confident, actually smug, feeling good. They shouldn’t have. Morals had crashed. Read the whole prophecy of Amos; it’s all there. Morals had crashed, honesty was gone, abuse of the poor was common, the upper class was vile. But money was plenty, prosperity was widespread and they were engaged in worship.
