Library without books debuts at Florida’s newest college
The library opening with the first day of classes on Monday at Florida's newest college features a sunlit arched roof and cozy reading chairs - but not a single book.

A fully digital library is among the futuristic features of Florida Polytechnic University's striking dome-shaped building, designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava.

"It's a boldly relevant decision to go forward without books," said Kathryn Miller, the university's director of libraries.

In a much later thread on the board I had occasion to use the URL, Inoculate Your Children Against Political Correctness! Now, the author Dr. Snyder didn't seem to like results-based education, exactly why he thinks it is corrupted should be looked into. Parents should always look into their children's education No, matter where it is from, it is their duty. As far as I'm concerned, the section on, How to Fight Political Correctness.

Traditional math? never worked for me. Voucher system, filthy Catholic conspiracy to support the evil parochial school system, but many of his other points in that section are quite good.

Anyway, I offer his entire article on the Ankerberg as a counter-balance to the first one I listed

From a very liberal side, as other threads have pointed out, this article is nearly politically neutral. It is quite an interesting read. You may have seen this idea and TV somewhere, I know that I have, unfortunately I don't remember where. A good idea for education for both adults and homeschoolers? Chris, I'm not against paper and there are quite a few trees that aren't worth hugging but ebooks are worth looking into. This will be the app that is most often used, especially with public libraries-- http://omc.overdrive.com/ (Install OverDrive Media Console on most popular devices.).

I'm a bit of a technology geek, but when it comes to reading, although I have tablets and smartphones, for me, nothing will replace a good 'ole book. I like the feel, the smell of the paper, being able.to use a bookmark or fold a corner, write hand written notes, highlight, and being able to open it and start reading without having to wait for it to power on or be concerned about the light turning off. I love technology but feel it has really dumbed us down at the same time. On a side note, I always wonder what effect the enormous amount of radio and microwaves vibrating through the air these days has on our brains since they are powered by electricity.

That might be interesting to visit that fully digital library to read a book or two on the computer.

Perhaps not overly surprising, http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/22/books/amazons-kindle-to-make-library-e-books-available.html?_r=0&pagewanted=print (Kindle Connects to Library E-Books) unlike this article of three years ago, I read that book publishers have warmed to libraries and you can get more of the latest best sellers from libraries than you can from Amazon?
