Same-Sex Marriage Ban Survives Challenge in Tennessee

Tennessee’s same-sex marriage ban has survived a constitutional challenge in court, the first prohibition to withstand such a challenge in almost 14 months.

Roane County Circuit Judge Russell E. Simmons, Jr., ruled that “neither the Federal Government nor another state should be allowed to dictate to Tennessee what has traditionally been a state’s responsibility,” in ruling from last Tuesday, SCOTUSblog reports.

More than two dozen federal and state court rulings since the Supreme Court’s United States v. Windsor decision in June 2013 have successfully challenged and/or nullified bans. Simmons’ ruling rejects both a claim of discrimination and a claim that the Constitution’s Full Faith and Credit Clause forces the state to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states. ...

How about you have you visited/attended Temple BC in Powell? or heard him in person?

My son went to the college there for a couple of years, as did brother Byron (unlike him though my son did not get a degree, just a wife) and brother Sexton and my preacher are good friends. I have been to the church and the college and know brother Sexton but am many of the thousands he has met, so he more than likely would not remember me but he would know my son. Now the dean of men, brother Evans, we know each other. Long story there on a prank that was pulled on my son. Thanks for asking. Thanks for your testimony and appreciate your posts, and pray for your ministry.

If you are asking where Bryon Chesney preaches, it is Highland Baptist Church in Knoxville.

If you are asking where I was saved, it was on I-75 Northbound in my car, just past the old 'Malfunction Junction' in Knoxville where I-75 & I-40 came together a horribly designed pretty much "T" intersection
at that time I attended 1st Baptist Knoxville (where the Senior Pastor at the time proved to be an outright heretic)...my testimony is somewhat a long story, God having many people both praying for me and witnessing to me, several who were not your prominent socially acceptable church going people

I have never actually been in Temple Baptist in Powell, TN although for awhile I was regualarly in Powell. I have heard him preaching in Red Bank, TN (part of Chattanooga) and his preaching was a great blessing

and just wondered where you attend church? If you don't mind answering
Oops! my bad I just clicked on the little house icon and found out.
Still, please take it as encouragement it is a blessing to be reminded of that day in May, 1980 when God saved me.
btw editting here
I see you all use the Red Back Church Hymnal. It has some wonderful songs in it that sadly arent' being sung in too many churches anymore. If I remember correctly there is a precious song in it titled: Stand By Me

Hi Michael, sorry I just saw your comments. Thanks for the encouragement and for sharing where you were saved.
Yes, we use the Red Back Church Hymnal. We sometimes sing that song Stand By Me.
There are a lot of good ones in that hymn book.

I wonder if Tennessee put the queer ban in their constitution like Nebraska did?

"Only marriage between a man and a woman shall be valid or recognized in Nebraska. The uniting of two persons of the same sex in a civil union, domestic partnership or other similar same-sex relationship shall not be valid or recognized in Nebraska."

Our ban held up in court several years back, and I haven't heard of anyone trying to go after it again. I just wonder if the other states wrote their bans correctly and put it in their constitutions?

Matthew 19
3 And some Pharisees came to Him, testing Him, and saying, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any cause at all?"
4 And He answered and said, "Have you not read, that He who created them from the beginning MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE,
5 and said, 'FOR THIS CAUSE A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER, AND SHALL CLEAVE TO HIS WIFE; AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH'?
6 "Consequently they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate."---NASB
