Reid schedules vote in September on amending the Constitution

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has set up a procedural vote for September on a constitutional amendment to limit money in politics.

Before adjourning for a five-week recess on Friday, Reid filed cloture on the motion to proceed to S.J. Res. 19, which is designed to overturn two recent Supreme Court decisions that allowed corporations, labor unions and wealthy individuals to spend more money on federal elections.

The amendment is certain to fail in the Senate because Republicans generally support the high court’s decisions in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission and McCutcheon v. FEC, arguing they removed limits on free speech. ...

Oh, if only everyone had equal incomes, the economy would boom. But, that's the kind of ignorance you expect to hear from the NY Times, whose motto is "All the news that's fit to print." They just can't come out and say it is the govt and their cronys that continue to cause slow growth, can they?

For a more informed view, read economist Walter Williams http://econfaculty.gmu.edu/wew/articles/14/EconomicFreedom.htm

I would suggest that you all, take a look (and I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a transcript for http://billmoyers.com/episode/full-show-united-states-of-alec/ (Full Show: United States of ALEC). I have a little doubt everything in it was true, we have extremely dumb state senators (no doubt Federal ones as well). Have corporations wipe their noses and write their bills for them. I would say the major error of this show was not sin of commission, but omission, no doubt labor unions and especially teacher unions do the same thing. It was something the show should have brought up -- but didn't. But no, we do have too much corruption in Government. Mike and UPS, now aren't you happy I didn't give unmitigated praise to a Bill Moyer's show?

Thanks for the explanation of why it matters, though The Hill website article did not mention religion but the role of corporations in elections politics.
I think for most US residents, either topic is to be avoided, not discussed 'in polite company.'

Unprofitable Servant, sure thing. And in regards to this subject, seems HR is up to something, now what it is, hard to tell. why would he even bring up that document, they've worked full time to replace it for so long. ??

Arsy Varsy ...any change to the 1st Amendment's free speech clause could potentially impact freedom of religion since that too is 1st Amendment. If government can control political speech it also can control religious speech. If you want to see how that works go to Iraq.

I don't understand why this story would appear in SermonAudio, since it deals only with a political fight.

It would seem that lady and gentlemen, a Constitutional Amendment would apply equally to Left-wing nuts as well right-wing ones?

For years, for years conservatives to the right-wing nuts in the John Birch Society were gripping about courts legislating through judicial rulings, this would help correct that! But then when 5 old male white Catholics start behaving like Catholics, then this is okay?

No, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporate_personhood (Corporate personhood) is a convenient http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_fiction (Legal Fiction) and what was designed to make business able to function more freely--and safely from lawsuits--etc. has been turned on it's head. Corporate personhood needs now a little more reality and less fiction.

UPS, http://billmoyers.com/2014/04/10/nothing-really-compares-to-the-koch-brothers-political-empire/ (Nothing Really Compares to the Koch Brothers’ Political Empire) with it's dark money--not even George Soros, but hey, both Soros and the Kochs would be effected equally by an Admendment.

Please note that top 17 amounts all went to democrats and the list of recipients of those receiving the donations that Jim is so against has only a sprinkling of republicans compared to heavy hand of those donating to the democrats.

Also, it is good that the the republicans are against a violation of the first amendment to the constitution, why wouldn't the democrats and independents be?

Good link Mike

and good to see you jpw, thanks for the link in the other thread about historic premillenialism
