Judges 'open door' to marriage of 3, 4 or 5 people
Traditional-marriage advocates are slamming a three-judge panel from the Fourth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for striking down Virginiaâs constitutional amendment affirming traditional marriage, saying the decision violates the separation of powers and potentially opens the doors to any arrangement of adults being considered marriage.
On Monday, Circuit Judges Henry F. Floyd and Roger L. Gregory voted to strike down the constitutional amendment defining marriage in the commonwealth as the union of one man and one woman. The amendment was approved by 57 percent of Virginia voters in 2006.
âOver the decades, the Supreme Court has demonstrated that the right to marry is an expansive liberty interest that may stretch to accommodate changing societal norms,â wrote Floyd in his opinion.
For traditional-marriage supporters, that rationale showcases judges who have no problem thinking of themselves...
Lol. The trend has been people shacking up together. Maybe this will, at least, get them to make a commitment. Anybody see the irony in this? People have had a difficult time committing to one another as a couple but now, legal polygamy (committing to many people) suddenly is appealing...guess they'll have to redefine "marriage" yet again by eliminating the number 2. Divorce lawyers must be salivating in considering such.
John Y., you forgot to add stupidity. A society without strong support for traditional marriage is a weak one.
Quite right, Lady Virtue, and it can be added,
1 Corinthians 7 2 But because of immoralities, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. 3 Let the husband fulfill his duty to his wife, and likewise also the wife to her husband. 4 The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does; and likewise also the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does.---NASB
Nowhere in the New Testament is there support polygamy or polyandry -- even though in the Hollywood culture they practice in a serial fashion.
Indeed, this is a blatant flouting of Genesis 2:24 and Jesus' teaching on marriage in Matthew 19 and Mark 10. It amazes me that people cannot see how utterly ridiculous the redefining of marriage is. Open their eyes, Lord, I pray, that they may see.
