California Death Penalty System Is Unconstitutional, Federal Judge Rules

A federal judge ruled Wednesday that California’s death penalty system is so arbitrary and plagued with delay that it is unconstitutional, a decision that is expected to inspire similar arguments in death penalty appeals around the country.

The state has placed hundreds of people on death row, but has not executed a prisoner since 2006. The result, wrote Judge Cormac J. Carney of United States District Court, is a sentence that ‚Äúno rational jury or legislature could ever impose: life in prison, with the remote possibility of death.‚ÄĚ

That sense of uncertainty and delay, he wrote, ‚Äúviolates the Eighth Amendment‚Äôs prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment.‚ÄĚ

About 40 percent of California’s 748 death row inmates have been there more than 19 years. ...

Sometimes we could wish that it was "the end" but a lot of the grumblin' grandmas (one can almost hear the "dueling banjos" here) rarely post because they don't like those who defend Truth. They were with the impression that this was a private by invitation only forum which allowed only for those who meet with their approval.

Sister,

Shake the dust off your feet. You have made many valid points, but deaf ears and prideful hearts will never hear. These boards are a war zone for attacks by others as they look down their noses and seek to cut some to ribbons with their sharp tongue and harsh words. This is not pleasing to our Lord, who calls His own to be humble, to love one another, and to serve one another. Those three 'traits' will indeed be evident in Christ's sheep.

Many seek pleasure in being right, in pushing their own agenda, and in name-calling as well as labeling. May God's people pray for all of mankind.

Our time would be better spent in His word and in prayer; as I am sure you are already aware of...

May the Lord bless you richly

Proof....your many posts speak volumes.
You don't seek fellowship...only a forum to rant about how wrong everyone and everything is, and only you have all the answers......
Then you should be able to quote me saying I have all the answers, you should also be able to quote me saying everyone else is wrong....by all means quote on any of these things, your problem is that I sound like I'm standing upright instead of crawling on my belly to the likes of you.

The issue at hand is a handful of women who are rarely seen here unless a female gender specific issue comes up,the last one was the issue of women having children out of wedlock, one poster said some rather harsh things and the sisterhood came in and chastised everyone for what one person said.

Repent therefore of this wickedness.
Still no creativity, first off I am not your "sonny" and you are typical of the feminist Christian variety, you spout the narrative then claim you have nothing to do with it.

If you had any credibility you would document your false accusations with proof, you can't so you do the best you can....I understand and its ok.

John Y, appreciate your desire for accuracy, wish it carried over into the practice of your religion. It is not uncommon for people to call the son of a dad junior as a nickname even when they don't share the same name. In Jim's world it is a term of derision, in the real world most people use it as a term of endearment. Try and look at it this way. Jim's about to make an inaccurate statement about George W Bush, so he lets people know that at the start of his comment by referring to him inaccurately as junior. You know what follows is also a misrepresentation and distortion. Hope that helps.

Also, you would do well to stop the needless name calling and put downs of your perception of other people's level of intelligence. We all can say what do we have that we have not received and why would we glory as if we had not been given it.

If I am right and Jim Lincoln is wrong then it is not pride to try and get Jim Lincoln to comprehend the right position to hold on the subject of when to refer to a father and son as Sr. and Jr.

John Y., everyone knows who I mean when I refer to Bush Jr., the idiot son of Bush Sr.
It is totally superfluous if everybody knows who you mean when you erroneously refer to GW Bush as Bush Jr. and GHW Bush as Bush Sr. It is legally inaccurate to refer to them as Jr. and Sr. because legally they are not Jr. and Sr. Why are you incapable of comprehending that and not say Jr. and Sr. when referring to GW Bush and GHW Bush? Anybody with a normal brain would not keep eroneously stating Jr. and Sr. when referring to GW Bush and GHW Bush if they know that they are not legally Jr. and Sr.

Ah, so much worry over form over substance.
Ex-Catholic Journal wrote:
Rome dilutes (actually, negates) the saving gospel of Jesus Christ by adding man-made traditions, such as mandatory fasts and Holy Days of Obligation. Catholics are promised that if they obey the Church‚Äôs five precepts, they will accomplish the ‚Äúindispensable minimum in the spirit of prayer and moral effort‚ÄĚ (CCC 2041-2043). By declaring salvation through meeting five external requirements, Rome defrauds Catholics by subtracting what is truly necessary to receive salvation. They omit the righteousness of Christ that is received through repentance and faith. They are told that salvation is through habitually ‚Äúdoing penance,‚ÄĚ a form of self abasement.
