Osteen Defends Stance on Hot Button Issues: 'This Is Just Who I Am'

Pastor Joel Osteen—whose "A Night of Hope" event on Saturday drew 50,000 people to Yankee Stadium in New York City—recently spoke about how he deals with controversial issues, meeting Pope Francis, and his views on Christian unity.

The pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston recently said gay marriage is "against the rules," but that he doesn't want his ministry defined by how he views the issue.

"I think the challenge for me that you have to overcome is they want to go to the hot button issues and for some people, that's not what my ministry's about or what I'm about," Osteen told The Blaze. "It's just not my focus, so for me it's easy for me to walk away from an interview and for people to think, 'That's just the guy who's against gays or against some other hot button issue.' ...

Well, Delores...before you start throwing stones, maybe you ought to be a little quicker to clean up your own English errors..."apostophes between they"?? And Shane, I would be wary of those who are quick to flatter.

I find your posts kind and informative and know exactly what you are trying to say, Shane, unlike some on here. I won spelling bees in school and made A's in English and still flub up on this forum. That's why I don't point out mistakes, I get what they are trying to say bad or good. By the way I have noticed that Steve R from Zion never puts apostophes between they and are or any other shortened word, for instance it's theyre instead of they're. It's like other comments which I refer to as straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel, which by the way happens a lot on here.

Hi Shane, I know exactly what you meant and I have interchanged the words myself, among others. To even mention the mix up, mis-spelling, or whatever was nonscense to begin with. I just thought the comment, "you spelled except perfectly" was kind of funny when considering the conversation.

You know...I never, ever correct anyones spelling, or even grammer for that matter because that person will be on the prowl from that point forward looking to bust me on my own errors, giving my medicine right back to me.

Christopher... If you look at the context of my original post, it should be obvious to anyone who was not looking to roast me, that I meant accept not except.
I don't spell to good.

Hello,
Not all of your repetitive posts apply to each thread, but it is easier than application of thought, I suppose.

I had to think about this for a few seconds but then remembering the conversation, found it pretty funny.

Accept/except are two of a few combinations that always make me have to think. The distinctions are clear enough, but my mind wants to do the opposite if I don't catch it.

SteveR. I count your persecution as blessings with all joy. I do love you and will continue to pray for you. And I will do my best to check my spelling going forward.

It wasnt a spelling error. You spelled 'except' perfectly

It was a Balaam of Bosor moment. You tried to curse them, and you couldnt. You blessed them and cursed yourself.

"Osteen recognizes that there are people on both sides of the gay marriage issue who may not like his response, but he defended his stance."

Human response and human stance is not really the point.

WHAT does the BIBLE say?

"Leviticus 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination"

"Matthew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled."

Yes Shane, I think the Old Testament names stick to the Hebrew and the new testament names the Greek equivalent. Maybe a theologian could offer a better answer.

It must be the translation you use.
There is a reason for it Shane, but I admit it can make things a tad awkward.

example

Matthew 3:3 KJV
(3) For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

Those who read the KJV get used to it.
