Southern Baptists condemn transgender people

The annual Southern Baptist Convention voted yesterday to oppose the 'moral validation' of transgender people, approving a proposal that affirms "God's original design to create two distinct and complementary sexes".

Drafted by Denny Burk, associate professor of biblical studies at Boyce College, the resolution asserts that "gender identity should be determined by biological sex and not by one's self-perception – a perception which is often influenced by fallen human nature in ways contrary to God's design".

It continues: "We affirm distinctions in masculine and feminine roles as ordained by God as part of the created order, and that those distinctions should find an echo in every human heart. ...

Thanks Strat. What I need to do is continue working on not getting so defensive and feeling like I need to defend everyone he offends with my words. I get bothered when people don't speak up loud when he attacks, but maybe I'm the one who should be keeping quiet. I think I mainly do it for those who are just stopping by, don't visit often, new to the forum, etc, because I feel I compare it to one of those things where someone comes on and says, "Hey everyone, Chris is a thief and a child molester." I can either leave it be; remaining silent, and let everyone who doesn't know me believe from there on out that these things are true, or I can set the record straight.

There is no evidence for this comment whatsoever. People here disagree and argue with each other all day long but come against you as a group for good reason. You are void of the light and love of Christ. You are filled to overflowing with rules and regulations, the law, judgements and condemnations, but grossly lack the most important command that the law rests on...love your neighbor as yourself. I would be mortified if another born again Christian.said this to me and it would cause me to step back immediately to take a good hard look at myself, but never you...you consider it persecution for Christ's sake;.thanking Him for being counted worthy to suffer. Hmmm.
Wear any derision you receive from him as a badge of honor,a sign that you are on the right track...I always welcome ridicule from his kind and I'm happy to receive it from the source within them that they willingly submit to and will spend their eternity with.

It's not the Southern Baptists who are doing the condemning. God has already done that. They are simply agreeing with God's decree. Sexual Perversion Is A Sin, Not A Right!

I'll answer for SteveR... The rights that are being lost:
The right to be allowed to choose what bathroom to use, based on my daily "feeling" and not "plumbing"
The right to force others to call be by whichever pronoun suits that feeling.
The right to sue for massive amounts of money if either of those are denied.
I teach at a secular community college, and have been seeing more and more of these individuals pop up; it is mostly males, and they creep out the female students when they want to use the girls bathroom; most assume they are perverts trying for a peek.
And yes, it is annoying when one complains to the dean, "Professor R. Referred to me as a "He" today, and I felt... Slighted.

... another tragic case of Christians playing judge... I am commanded to love the person and detest the sin.... I do not have the authority to save souls nor to condemn them.... that belongs to the Lord Jesus Christ alone.... how many opportunities to share the gospel will be lost by alienating sinners? that certainly would have left me out, as there is nothing good in me but the Christ that lives in me.... we must not listen to Satan as he whispers in our ears to be judgmental.... when we judge, Satan scores one for his side. I will continue to hate their sin, but I will leave the judgment to the Lord.

What rights are they losing....list them,if your position has any integrity that is.Prayer is not the most powerful force in the Universe,it is the finite appealing to the infinite which is the most powerful force in the Universe.....it is also in the hands of some a splendid excuse for doing and standing for nothing.

That as well, Strat.

But I was thinking of the Great Persecutor SteveR, who has anathematised almost all posters here on SA (except John Yurich). Shane is the latest victim of his fiery red dragon pronouncements, and you couldn't find a more peaceable guy than the southern Californian. However, I much prefer it when folks like SteveR raise their flag for all to see, rather than play the subterfugionist who is a mite sneaky.

That's not the point. As Christians we have a witness statement to make in a fallen depraved world.

When such obvious wickedness as transgender and homosexuality comes to the fore in society we are bound by the Lord to make a statement as to the churches position.

The churches positions and Biblical position is clearly to be against these sexual offences and iniquities. Even when they are unpopular.

Mohler writes;
"There is no third way. A church will either believe and teach that same-sex behaviours and relationships are sinful, or it will affirm them. Eventually, every congregation in America will make a public declaration of its position on this issue. It is just a matter of time (and for most churches, not much time) before every congregation in the nation faces this test," he writes in a blog post." (A.Mohler)

because SteveR.... a church doesn't want to be forced by "discriminatory" law to hire a guy who thinks he feels like a girl today to take care of the nursery on sundays.

there is the issue of those with genetic issues, a true medical issue, but otherwise its...

CA that was telling kids they could pick their gender and boys could say they feel like a girl and girls would then lose their privacy in the bathroom and locker room.

this is the kind of abuse that gender boundaries protects against.... something all, that is all societies have.

the alternative is to take away society itself, which is really just a way to demoralize it.
