âCould there be a future where most American Christians support same-sex relationships?â asks Kirsten Powers, a former atheist who went public with her conversion to Christianity last year.
âIf so, it will be due to the emergence of conservative Christians who say orthodox believers can support life-long, monogamous gay relationships without undermining their commitment to biblical authority.â
In her column in USA Today, Powers mentions by name evangelical Matthew Vines, the homosexual author of the new book, âGod and the Gay Christian,â as well as New Testament scholar James Brownson, who wrote the 2013 book âBible, Gender, Sexuality.â...
We are all born with the sin nature. Do sodomites have a "gene" that makes them that way? Only in so far as they, like the rest of us, have an inclination to sin. ..not beyond that any more than an alcoholic has an alcoholic gene. They may have developed a propensity for it through experience. Can they control it? Can we manage our sins? We cannot but we can yield to the Holy Spirit and we can be set free from any pet sins. "Whom the Son sets free is free indeed." We are only mastered by our sins to the degree that we are deceived in them. Truth always frees us. If one knows about the truth of what they are doing, they wouldn't care to engage in it.God knows best and is not a killjoy. The more we love Him, the more we WANT to follow Him. Then sins that were dear to us, lose their appeal. And, as for 3 percent of the population being sodomites...i would dismiss that. If that were the case, the sodomite issue wouldn't be so prolific. And Christians who haven't practiced such since their conversion or even prior to it have, nonetheless, practiced equally as worse; to look upon a woman to lust is tantamount to adultery,..to hate ones' brother is equal to murder,etc..
SC, I first thought you were talking about having no control over being born male or female but then noticed the word "orientation". Are you saying that you believe that it's not their choice and that even so, they, as with any other sin, need to control it?
s c wrote: She has it partially correct when she says that sexual orientation is not a choice...we are all born with a sin nature.Of course,God provided the remedy.
The Bible states they left their natural (inborn) affection and lusted after strange flesh. That would be a conscience choice away from the way they were created. If you are saying they did not choose to be born heterosexual, then one would agree. But homosexuality is definitely a choice and a bad one at that. Seeing that it is only about 3% of the population, even most unsaved do not choose that path.
she is using a failible scientific conclusion to shine a light on scripture not using scripture to shine a light on scientific conclusions, John 1.
But didn't this happen during the enlightment when after Darwin suggested an old earth many theologians suggested that we cannot discredit the findings of modern science and it ended in an attack on 6 literal days.
I point the finger at myself and confess i do not take the opportunity to defend scripture everytime it is attacked or offer rebuke when His name is used as profanity. BTW i do believe we are to always offer ourselves as a living sacrifice in all these situations not just the ones we feel safe in correcting. Scripture demands this level of commitment and God's efficacy as well
God says homosexuality is an unnatural abomination.
True Christians say homosexuality is an unnatural abomination.
False Christians who say homosexuality is acceptable are teaching ditch the Bible keep the sin. These false Christians are liars, hypocrites, reprobates in sheeps clothing and of course, worst of all, Liberals.
"She says both authors argue âthere is plenty of new evidence to consider, including the fact that same-sex orientation is not a choice"
First of all, what's done behind closed doors...yuck. Ok, I always cringe and clench my fists in fury when I read that iit's not a choice. Reminds me of when Darwin came up with an alternative to God and people finally saw a way out; a new way to live life without being held accountable for the things they do, say, and think. I don't know what other evidence they claim, but this non scientific lie straight from hell is.helping to send the younger generation straight to hell; believing that they have no control over the sin because they were born the wrong s*x; a biological mistake that they can't be held acaccountable for. What a lie. Interesting that they never, ever mention the scriptures that condemn the practice and lifestyle, completely glossing over them in their quest to use the bible to their favor. Hmmm.
From the article: " âBoth Vines and Brownson hold a âhigh viewâ of Scripture, meaning it is the final authority on all matters of faith and life,â she explains. â
O really now? Then they would agree sodomy is a sin -Leviticus 18:22. Of course they don't agree with that because God is not their Lord. Being as that's the case they don't hold scripture in a "high view."
Again fron the article, encouraging the church to change it's view she states, " Powers writes, âThe church has done this before on issues ranging from slavery to the solar system.â Heliocentricity vs geocentricity. Makes for an interesting study.
