Are Southern Baptists Wavering in Their Opposition to Gay Marriage?

With the new pope softening the church’s stance on gay marriage, are Baptists next?

The Episcopalians gave in several years ago – prompting a revolt as scores of congregations and entire dioceses attempted to exit the denomination. Despite pressure from liberal elements within their denominations, Methodists, Lutherans and Presbyterians have moved cautiously.

Roman Catholics and Southern Baptists are America’s two largest religious groups. With 78.2 million members, Catholics comprise 25 percent of America’s population. With 16 million faithful, Southern Baptists are second, and make up about 30 percent of America’s 52 million Protestants.

So, will the Baptists follow the Catholics – retreating in their condemnation of homosexuality and their centuries-old refusal to accept same-sex marriage? ...

Thanks SF, will remember you and yours also in prayer.
When the people of God repent of their worldliness , disobedience, and turning away from Him perhaps He will send us God called preachers.

Penny, thank you. The fellowship, here on SA, is one of many reasons I thank the Lord for leading us here. I haven't heard any of his messages. I'm on my way to look him up.

Liza J, indeed the Lord is our strength. Will be praying for yall.

SF, I pray that your family will find their joy complete in the Lord, there are so many in the same boat, just talking about that tonight with loved ones. My prayers are with you! Penned and SF....we too are unable to find a biblical local church.
The closest is two hours away...no fellowship because we are not locals. but the Lord is the strength of our lives

Penny, " the real church will be underground." With all the apostate churches I don't think this is far off,. Finding a biblical church in my area is like finding a needle n a haystack. Extremely discouraging :/

well, when the proverbial "goats" get wind of persecution, they'll either leave, or the church will complete its statehood and represent sodomy as a right, and in that case, the real church will be underground.

Hopefully, the acceptance of sodomy will open some of our eyes to our own sins so that we will be better equipped to engage those who are caught up in homosexuality. I find it interesting that we seem to miss it,maybe because we are so desensitized. Why the double standard? Why is it acceptable for those who fornicate, look at porn, commit adultery (even if only in their thoughts),on and on, be accepted in church while we look down our noses at sodomites? Until we address our own mess, it is only fitting that we be under judgment by something we perceive as so crass. God always judges disobedience with that which is perceived as being more vile.God turns people over to their idols. This country idolizes celebrities, broadway, hollywood and sports...these all embrace lasciviousness and sexual immorality and sadly, so do a lot of professing christians.

Myself as well. The things we are witnessing today were unheard of and fully unacceptable not all that long ago. Not long ago, sodomy, for example, was just plain wrong. Now, you can't get a straight, public answer from church leadership. People are left confused with the open ended answers and the sodomites are encouraged, and even victorious when the answers are, "we won't judge you, God loves you, who are we to judge, well, only God knows, God has changed and loves everyone", etc, etc, etc.
i agree... Some rc churches have gay people singing in their choir... They r excepted now

There's a different feeling for me when sodomites claim to be Christians and proclaim it proudly and with boldness. I get a sour, uncomfortable feeling when they, as church members, raise their hands in praise, close their eyes in prayer, and say "amen" while being active, proud sodomites. To me, I see it all as pure mockery and laughing in the face of God. What's even worse are the sodomites in leadership roles within todays church, the growing acceptance by so called Christians, and what's being taught to the next generation. The next generation will grow up right into all of this and consider it all as being normal, when it was blasphemy to previous generations.

Which ever way you try to represent predestination and election it remains absolute and fact that there is two peoples on earth the elect and the reprobate. In old Israel the same was true. The size of each group is known to God and He elects and reprobates according to His will and purpose.
The term "Abraham's seed" describes the nation of Israel after Abraham. Some were elect most were reprobate.
Precisely, which is why there is no advantage in being genealogically descended from Abraham. God is no respecter of persons when it comes to their pedigree.

Romans 9:22 What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:
23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,
24 Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?

Rom 11:7 What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but (1) the election hath obtained it, and (2) the rest were blinded

I read something recently that correlated the "marriage and giving in marriage" in the days of Noah with gay marriage. We know that homosexuality is rampant throughout history at the pinnacle of every major civilization; (A result of the postmodern mindset) however, the researcher claimed that according to tradition that that is the only other time in history that a government authorized same sex marriages.
Interesting thought. Especially in light of Matthew 24

Yeah, pretty amazing, thtnmdu (that's one long name...ha-ha). We have all read about the days ahead, but to actually see things unfold the way they are, in our time, is unsettling. Unsettling because this is only the beginning of the world waxing and digressing back to the days of Noah where nobody cared and everything was permissible. I never though I would see the day when the sodomites would come out from their closets and rise to a force to be reckoned with. I never thought I'd see the day when the Athiests, being such a small minority, would rise to the level they have; taking the law by its reigns. I never thought I'd see the day when speaking up and out about not only the sin of sodomy, but also its health risks, would be considered a hate crime. I never thought I'd witness God being assaulted and mocked like we're seeing today, and even the mention of Him being considered a hate crime. I never thought pedophiles would become as numerous and bold enough to come out publicly, gain a voice, and lobby. I never thought any human would ever consider lobbying full term abortion for any reason. Ok, I'm rambling. Crazy new world.

Anyone see this 'Hate Crime' and freedom of speech issue in England?

Hate Crime

Sadly, the church involved removed the poster and replaced it with: 'The poster has now been replaced by another one with the message : 'God loves you!' and a picture of a meerkat and a speech bubble saying: 'Simples'.'

Far better to stick to the Holy Scriptures in the first place
