‘It’s easier being Christian in Abu Dhabi than in UK’
Abu Dhabi: ‘In many ways it’s easier being a Christian here than it is back in the United Kingdom,” says Reverend Andrew Thompson (MBE), the senior pastor at Abu Dhabi’s St Andrew’s Church.

The UAE has always prided itself on its tolerance, with religious freedom enshrined in the constitution. Article 32 states that the “freedom to exercise religious worship is guaranteed in accordance with established customs and provided it does not conflict with public policy or violate public morals.”

The large Christian expatriate community in Abu Dhabi bears this out, as does the multitude of churches across the country. St Andrew’s Church, built in Abu Dhabi in 1984, has a congregation of 15,000 worshippers every week. ...

The church itself is Anglican and has People from many different denominations – Methodists, Baptists, Lutherans, Presbyterians, Roman Catholics and many more – make our church their spiritual home.

Now that's ecumenical!!

I wonder why this church is not persecuted in the Name of Jesus?

this is an example of the Christian witness through the biblical means of social justice.

the Christian doctor brought the infant mortality rate dramatically down which gained the respect of the larger community.

when America was Christian, there were times when the character of her people also spoke of the character of God.

the reading of books goes back to fellows like Tyndale who wanted the scriptures in the language of the people, the creating of orphanages, often Christians who began them, schools for children to learn to read the bible -- literacy was for that.

here we see the way the Christian lives is a reflection of their calling as ambassador for Christ.

example in scripture is the Good Samaritan.

because of the faithfulness of a few, a few meeting in homes, and sharing the gospel as they can, and the witness of a few, the door was opened for religious freedom for many.
