Google, Yahoo Removes Pro-Life Ads from 'Abortion Clinic' Searches
Weeks after Google pulled pro-life ads from its "abortion clinics" search results, Yahoo has also followed suit after being petitioned by the pro-choice groups NARAL Pro-Choice America and UltraViolet.
"We have found at least some of the ads to be out of compliance with our policies and we are taking them down," CNET quoted a Yahoo spokesperson as saying. "We're in the process of reviewing the other ads and will take similar action if any are found to not be in compliance with our policies."
NARAL and UltraViolet alleged that the "majority" of ads that popped up when users typed "abortion clinics" into Yahoo's search were "deceptive," funded by pro-life groups and discouraged women from having abortions using titles such as "Free Abortion Clinic."...
who's this "they" Jim that doesn't care about the people? the ones that spend their own money to clothe the baby, or the ones that sit with the women grieving over their abortions or the one who takes her friend to the hospital or prays for reconciliation and is invited to the mothers and fathers wedding? or the Christian who shares the gospel and then one day holds the baby? Where is this harshness coming from? no wonder the world is having its way, we've "moralized" apathy.
Penny, they care more for their goals then they do the people, all too often, are like those described in Wikipedia, are there good organizations yes, e.g., Birthright International--Philosophy, but God --in general-- cares more how Christians do something more than the end result, q.v., The Inadequacy of Moralism
Dylan, certainly a worthy effort. They are trying to keep women from help and keep them from the truth.... and families as a whole, fathers. On the other side of those phone numbers is a network of caring people that will give them support through a pregnancy.
NOTHING new. Over 5 years ago I tried posting ads based on abortion and birth control search phrases and pointing them to the EPM.org article on how birth control pills cause death by starvation to already conceived embryos.
All my ads were quickly deleted, or google raised my click rates like 10,000% to some insane rate I could not pay for to shut me up.
SteveR, an interesting example, except the midwives wanted to save the children, and many women looking for abortion don't. They will appreciate being given the truth from such outfits as Birthright International, which doesn't believe in abortions than to here lies about it.
Jim Lincoln writes: "The Ends Justify the Means," is in the Bible -- no, it isn't. It is probably taken from "The Prince," by Machiavelli.
I wouldnt be surprised if your beloved Obama has a copy on his night stand.
As for the topic at hand, I would have to agree with Jim and Steven that there a more honest ways to preach against abortion. The Hebrew midwives didnt have any other choice to make besides lying to save lives, or murdering infants. This is not a similar circumstance, as we can still freely preach against abortion without being forced to resort to trickery.
Pharaoh had commanded the midwives to kill the male children. If they told him they refused it would not only impede their ability to continue saving babies (he would have THEM killed for disobedience) but also probably have resulted in their replacement with someone who would not have balked at the command. This on the other hand is advertising. It is the falsification of a title in order to direct a person seeking information to a different site by subterfuge. The likelihood of influencing someone to seek truth by using a lie is minuscule; it us more likely to be used by the devil to paint a bad picture of Christ. I support advertising pro life, but not using lies, especially since the enemy is always looking for inconsistencies.
$0.02-- There is nothing wrong with offering alternatives to abortion, I don't even think it would be out of line to have them come up under an "abortion services" search... So I hope the clearly stated ones (i.e. "Abortion alternatives" and such) are left by these search engines. Personally, however, I support the move to remove the deceitful advertisements.
We would be upset if there was a search link to a gay disco that came up when our Churches were searched for; and for that matter, if I searched for the Weather and it returned a work at home link I would be annoyed. There is no difference; it is false advertisement to have a link that states "free abortion clinic" that leads to something else, and I doubt seriously that those receive much, if any success. As a business decision, I am sure that it was made in fairness, not to suppress Christian liberties.
DL - I understand your position (not your text. Lol. There is no v15-20 in Hebrews 1) but i think that is a different matter, even if the end result, murdered babies, was a commonality.
The point is, if we are going to reach others for Christ we must maintain our integrity, because that is what He expects... Because we all know that if the devil can catch us lying THAT is what the conversation will be about, a
J4J, yes, some here think that "The Ends Justify the Means," is in the Bible -- no, it isn't. It is probably taken from "The Prince," by Machiavelli. There is a fairly long article on Consequentialism at Wikipedia, and God seeks individual morality so they are opposed to one another.
Oh, John Y., can be rather easily answered, too bad my pastor's sermon for this morning is already up.
For one thing John Y., first you have to stop associating with non-Christians other than in a work or missionary environment, Have you printed up and passed around in your church,Is A Catholic Christian An Oxymoron? (Yes!). So, if you did that and removed yourself from your church or the priest should kicked you out years than yes, you have to associate with Christians and if you don't like Christians -- then you aren't one, e.g., q.v., Hebrews 10:23-27
The Search engine Duckduckgo has a paid link about adoption at the start of their abortion clinic section, but from what I see of the rest abortion clinics are abortion clinics.
Don't forget that the Egyptian midwives were said to have feared God when they lied to Pharaoh about killing Hebrew boys (Hebrews 1:15-20) The text should be enough to silence anyone making a pretense that lying isn't acceptable to protect the innocent. It says "God was kind to the midwives" and he "gave them families of their own" because of this.
John for JESUS wrote: I'm coming down against those who would lie in the name of God. Maybe I should have said "Woe to you liers, hypocrites! Thus says the LORD your God, 'Thou shall not lie'! And to be fair, "Thou shall not kill" either!
Thank God that these godly men and women of honor at Yahoo and Google are rooting out this terrible plague of dishonesty in directing women to web sites where their minds might be changed towards having an abortion and killing an unborn child....the lord will surely have a.... special place for such individuals(and their supporters) who posess such a high level of uncomprimised integrity, the world is indeed a better place because they live.....surely the dead babies, had they been allowed to live, would have felt blessed to share the same planet with them.
