Bob Jones University’s Board of Trustees elected Stephen D. Pettit Sr.—a man who has faithfully served the Lord for nearly 35 years in evangelism and college ministry—as BJU’s fifth president.
Pettit replaces Dr. Stephen Jones who, for health reasons, announced in December he would end his nine-year tenure as BJU’s president at the end of Commencement May 9.
Over the past several months, BJU’s seven-person Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees conducted a presidential search in which they interviewed a number of candidates before unanimously recommending Pettit to the Board....
J4J, also I hope that they got out of politics, by the time you got there. Apparently the Right Wing Movement basically got started over issues that BJU had. The Christian Right Movement is an interesting article in Wikipedia, I take this interesting excerpt from it,
Partisan activity of churches wrote: Overtly partisan actions by churches could threaten their 501(c) tax-exempt status due to the Johnson Amendment of the Internal Revenue Code. In one notable example, the former pastor of the East Waynesville Baptist Church in Waynesville, North Carolina "told the congregation that anyone who planned to vote for Democratic Sen. John Kerry should either leave the church or repent". The church later expelled nine members who had voted for Kerry and refused to repent, which led to criticism on the national level. The pastor resigned and the ousted church members were allowed to return.
Hopefully this guy will drop the tuition rates! I used to go to a independent Baptist church for awhile and was surprised by how many of them attended BJU and were put under a big burden of debt for doing so. If schools like this want to equip people for the ministry, why not make it affordable. It's not like all ministers and missionaries make a ton of money after school to pay off the high tuition rates and many people couldn't get jobs with the degree or schooling they got anyways. A nice Bible cost maybe $100 bucks so why is tuition so expensive?! Greed?
