Should Evangelical Christians Care About Climate Change?
Climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe, an evangelical Christian, has had quite a run lately. A few weeks back, she was featured in the first episode of the Showtime series The Years of Living Dangerously, meeting with actor Don Cheadle in her home state of Texas to explain to him why faith and a warming planet aren’t in conflict. (You can watch that episode for free on YouTube; Hayhoe is a science adviser for the show.) Then Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people of 2014. Cheadle wrote the entry. “There’s something fascinating about a smart person who defies stereotype,” Cheadle observed....

Even if you believe in a young Earth, it’s still warming. One reason there’s such a tension between the evangelical community and science is, well, science. Many evangelicals are young-Earth creationists, who believe that the Earth is 6,000 or so years old.

Hayhoe isn’t one of those. She ...

I agree Mike, its a diversion. did God leave us to be stewards of the earth? yes. do we have a responsibility with repurcussions when we do not? yes.

fukushima is decimating the waters and the nation there. the poisoning of the waters is a reality, and now heavy metals are found in hair samples that were not there just years ago, and does the pollution cause illness, and hormonal disfunction in us... yes it does...?

but media attention will always be drawn to the money makers, bottom line is $$$ because people have ways to draw in the $$$, and the next markets with these schemes.

at the same time we do have a poisoning of society going on that we should care about for sure.

Should Evangelical Christians Care About Climate Change?

Dumb question. A read of the article shows the terms "climate change" and "warming" are used interchangeably. Climate change has been going on for as long as the Earth has been in existence. The implication that it is man-made is where the error creeps in. Climate change is normal. In the 70's when "global cooling" was going to usher in a new ice age and we were all going to starve to death, the voices of doom calling for us to do something before it was too late were everywhere. Those voices were also called "scientific."

btw, the reason the term "global warming" is being replaced by "climate change" is because for at least the last 17 years, there has been no evidence of warming. By redefining "climate change" into something bad, fear can still be promoted whether it gets hot, cold, rains, doesn't rain, snows more than average (a change), snows less than average (a change) etc.

When man thinks himself God, it isn't surprising he can actually come to believe man controls the weather, and that what you drive makes a difference. When he can control solar activity, perhaps he might then be able to control the climate.
