Pastor at Mars Hill Church Abruptly Leaves, Moves Out of State
With so much controversy surrounding Mars Hill Senior Pastor Mark Driscoll in recent months, it may not surprise some that one of its pastors is suddenly leaving.
Members recently learned of the abrupt departure of Mike Wilkerson, the director of biblical counseling at Mars Hill Ballard. Wilkerson will be moving out of state this weekend.
âOne of our long-time friends and pastors, Mike Wilkerson, has decided to step down from eldership at Mars Hill,â pastor Scott Harris said in a letter addressed to the âMars Hill Family.â
âMike has been part of Mars Hill for many years, and we are grateful for his leadership, particularly in helping us build our biblical counseling and Redemption ministry across all 15 churches,â Harris added....
I would also ad does anyone find any pastor they thoeoughly agree with on every issue? And when I am presented with that myself do I regard myself as the standard or should I consider an annoited man and that maybe I have something to learn from them?
I am sorry but you have inaccurately presented Dr MacArthur and his positions. Just this week I listened to 5 of his sermons that deal with the positions you just said he takes . Maybe you it would be wise to do your research thoroughly and allow the man himself to present his positions. Oh by the way when you sheppard a church for 40 years some will change ovee time. He is thoroughly reformed but I would say has become more convinced over time.
I do believe that some in the reformed camp take acception to pastors with big churches, they hold on too tightly to the notion the reformed tradition breeds small congregations. This may be true in some sense but it is not normative and is shameful considering those that do apply this to some would never apply it to say Spurgeon which is not consistant
Penny, well, Charismatic Chaos has nothing to do with John MacArthur's Study Bible. I would think you would want it pointed out in big letters who was the force behind the commentary in a Bible. Perhaps Ryrie appears in smaller print on his study Bibles? e.g., The Ryrie KJV Study Bible Hardback-Red Letter. If you're a KJVO type you can only get a Ryrie study Bible for that, because John only did one for the NKJV. Both men wrote study Bibles for the NASB e.g.,The Ryrie NAS Study Bible
Really, this associate of Driscoll could have left for any number of reasons, which may have had nothing to do with Driscoll or his theology.
I'm no fan of either one of them. I am unimpressed with the Jmac bible, and everytime I see his huge name printed across the holy word, I remember his interview with Larry King, telling the country to give absolute trust to the conservative king, who then created HS soon after. this week the S court says indef det shall stand. that's what I think of everytime I see his name, and also how dispensationalism has forced him to think that Christ is not currently King on his throne on high, making this age a parenthesis in history instead of the pivotal point of bringing in the eternal harvest, besides cutting off their priest-king, how then can I be saved? is this why so many are miles wide and an inch deep in their reading of scriptures? Lord, challenge me to be true the word and to read more deeply. he should've come on tv to say that every man must count the cost to follow Christ and that Christ never said to build his kingdom with the sword, the great falling away, false teaching of our day. he says many good things too, but he is not preparing his people for tribulation but rapture.
One more note: Ken Silva of Apprising ministries snap shot his tweets regarding Strange Fire and you can read them. Driscoll was intentionally antagonistic and it really bothered me regarding the total lack of respect for Dr MacArthur, a man I fully believe to be annointed by God as a gift to this generation
Yes he was Jim. Pyromaniacs blog has the video. Driscoll claimed he was harrassed but the video shows he was intentionally stirring up controversy against Dr MacArthur and the staff was not confrontive like Driscoll claimed.
Driscoll runs his church with an iron fist. Wilkerson I believe may have been directly involved with the marketing controversy with Driscoll's Real Marriage book.
I bring this up to confront the notion Driscoll is reformed and should be lauded. We see him as part of Gospel Coalition and with Piper bur you need to dig deeper with this man. I believe he is a danger to the efficacy of the church and you need to thoroughly examine him before you bind yourself to him.
