More Moms Staying Home, Reversing Decadeslong Decline

After decades of decline, the share of mothers who stay home with their children has steadily risen over the last several years, a new report has found.

In 2012, 29% of all mothers with children under age 18 stayed at home, a figure that has steadily risen since 1999 when 23% of mothers were stay-at-home, the Pew Research Center reported Tuesday. The share of stay-at-home moms had been dropping since 1967, when about half of all moms stayed home.

Pew attributed the rise of stay-at-home mothers to a mix of demographic, economic and societal factors. The vast majority of married stay-at-home mothers, 85%, say they are doing so by choice in order to care for their families. That rate is much lower for single stay-at-home mothers, at 41%, and cohabitating mothers, at 64%. ...

Yes it would be foolish to assume that people are returning to the ways of God when it could be just the only other option left to someone who would otherwise not chose it.

I mean when the bills are unpaid, the landlord is at the door its time to do something....uncle Sam to the rescue just like he intended for it to be.

One big reason why they are staying home is because there are no jobs. Our economy has contracted.

Welcome, btw, to great state of Georgia, home to the seemingly ubiquitous Waffle House. May God grant you journey mercies when you travel back to the Empire State.

So Good to know you all are praying.

You all and many more to are indeed precious family in Christ. We haven't met this pastor's wife yet. But when we do I trust the Lord Jesus Christ in our praying for her, we will already have had an experience of His love for her, and for each other in greater measure too.

Dorcas, while it would be so great to hear of a miracle in this woman's life, I am looking forward even more to when we see His sovereign work in the saving of those in our families who are lost.

IMHO while there was indeed the sinful woman who wept over Jesus' feet and loved Him much because she was forgiven much, there will also be Moms and Dads,
Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, brothers and sister who will likewise weap at His feet for saving those we are so burdened about.

Blessing to you all

I am asking for prayer, however the Spirit leads you, for a local pastor's wife, mom of three children, here whom I have never met, but from reading her blog one I sense is a godly woman, who is in a battle with cancer. Her initials are JDB
Thank You

Ok, I think I would qualify on the first count, unless of course you ask SteveR or Biblical Calvinism, so by the grace of God and for His glory will endeavor to hold JDB up in prayer. Angela, Yes! It is indeed a blessing, a beautiful treasure to the family when moms can stay home and be free to be a godly wife and mother.

But that is not why I am posting, but because of all the "controvery" on some of the other threads, I wanted to break with that and talk to you all who I know are praying people.

My wife and I are visiting our daughter in Georgia and I remember the time how I (we) could literally feel the prayers that were lifted up for her, in part I believe because those of you with Godly compassion for others identify with them in the struggles they go through. I think Christopher000 in CT could remind us of His answers as well
