African Christians Will Be Killed if Church Embraces Same-Sex Marriage, Warns Anglican Leader

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby has warned that African Christians will be killed if the Church of England embraces same-sex marriage, noting that decisions by the central body on the controversial issue can have a very big impact abroad.

"I have stood by gravesides in Africa of a group of Christians who had been attacked because of something that had happened in America. We have to listen to that. We have to be aware of the fact," Welby said in an interview, The Guardian reported on Friday.

He added that if the Church of England was to embrace gay marriages "the impact of that on Christians far from here, in South Sudan, Pakistan, Nigeria and other places would be absolutely catastrophic. Everything we say here goes round the world." ...

Christopher, I'm agreeing with SteveR on this. Anglican has become liberalism in the west, same with other denominations in America that have become lost, when they have meetings with the brethren of Africa, often find they've held their ground. Probably not always the case, but if you look at pastor stories coming in from AFrica, or like in Uganda, they are trying to hold back the sodomy movement which if you pay attention closely is associated with western expansion and economics. agreements made where to trade, they start to accept these things and then add to that the reproductive services (ie promiscuity and abortion) that come with western money, you look at Bill Gates and Rick Warren initiatives in Africa, it all comes together. I am not a bit surprised that traditional churches there are being given discernment from the Lord, for their own spiritual protection. Be glad there is a pastor left somewhere that is willing to stand in this rip tide. The witness of the church is on trial. As for tribes turning on Christians there because of their association with the west, I cannot blame them in the philosophical sense. Look at Warren's desire to use churches as the grounds for spreading his global goals. The church and the tribes are smelling the fish in the basket.

Ive been to their homes, sometimes only 20 sq ft, just enough for a pot to boil food and benches to sit & sleep. Ive been to Masai Villages where their whole day is consumed driving their livestock to an area that has had rain recently. Ive fished side by side w/villagers we helped receive equipment to process & sell their catch. have you? Ive been to the cities where worship is AT 4 OCLOCK AM before the workday and they CANT WAIT to go and worship. For them the CROSS is real salvation, their only hope, not a trinket to cloak wickedness on demand like Michael and John UK are doing now on another thread.
Africa is a very big continent, and not all places like you describe. Many places Anglicanism is nominal Christianity like most other place in the western world. Good if you stop generalizing, and stop pretending you are expert on Africa because you visit some small part of it.

So, the Lord established His Anglican church, a cross between Catholicism and reformed protestantism for His people there? That's what the Lord set up to watch over them? So, the Lord, from before time began, has never been concerned what His people are taught, as long as they are members of a church? By the way, how do you know what they have available to them within a reasonable distance? Not everyone in Africa lives under a tarp in the jungle.

this gentleman is making an excellent point in saying that people would associate "Christians" with western degeneration.

so the innocent get harmed by the sin of leadership, that is a theme in scripture.

I pray that those who consider themselves "liberal" and put their philanthropies above God, that they begin to realize there are deep and lasting repurcussions to what they are doing to society.

what denomination was Jesus?
Please remember people, these Christians dont live in America. They dont have a car where they can drive to one of 20 different Churches in their municipalities. These Christians have been put under the watch and authority of often just one Church in their village by the KING of KINGS LORD of LORDs. Just because you are bigots against that Church, hardly means these people arent Christian
.

The LORD has established HIS Church there to watch over HIS people, so please dont try to puff yourselves up because you think your denomination is so much better

Cliff, the branch of the Anglican branch in the U.S.A. (The Episcopalians) went weird even before the British one did. It's a shame that the moral depravity of much of the Western world ( (Archbishop) Welby: backing gay marriage could be 'catastrophic' for Christians elsewhere ) is having a disastrous effect in other parts of the world. It's time for right believing Anglicans to leave this child of Catholicism and go to actual Christian churches.
