Common Core: Remove Two Rights from Bill of Rights

An Arkansas mom was disturbed to learn her sixth grade daughter's homework was to "prioritize, revise, prune two and add two" amendments in the Bill of Rights. The homework, part of the controversial Common Core curriculum, said that the Bill of Rights is "outdated and may not remain in its current form any longer."

Lela Spears was particularly disturbed because her daughter's Sixth Grade History class "had received no prior training in civics or how to amend the Constitution, which may lead those children to incorrectly believe that it can be changed by a 'special committee' as suggested by the assignment," ...

While at times the JBS may have --some-- policies we can agree with, they are rightfully criticized of being over the edge extremist group.
Silofolous, many good points
Jamie, the Constitution has been changed numerous times, though not for, what is it 60 years, limiting the President's term of office to two terms was the last Amendment.
The last amendment was in 1971 I believe lowering the voting age to 18.

17 times in 222 years is numerous?

Jim does not like the JBS because it disagrees with him, the sources he uses to back his points are far more extreme and unreliable. Are you saying they made up the paper that shows the assignment? Besides where is his Wikipedia research for CNS

CNSNews.com was founded by L. Brent Bozell III on June 16, 1998, under the name Conservative News Service (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cybercast_News_Service)

It doesn't have anything to do with JBS, do not agree with his contention that anything JBS puts out is untrue. Now,however if he said that about the NY Times, AARP, Bill Maher, or the liberal lesbians he has been know to quote that borders on believable.

both parties traded in indvl rhgts for collective, the democrats just happen to be more honest about it.

one thing interesting from the movie put out recently, the same people appointed to these committees then are moved to the college board, so they will rewrite college entrance as well. they've sure got a wide pallet to paint on or to smudge over what was already painted, depending on how you want to say it.

We are not talking about amendments which provision is built into the constitution itself. This is about fertilizing young minds to actually chop off existing amendments. Leave it alone!

Ed Sullivan show? How far back do you have to go to attempt to sidetrack the Common Core issue? As for the article, isn't the important thing whether or not it is true? Or is defending the wishes of Washington politicians more important?

Clearly the founding documents are not sola scriptura. What they are are effective guides. They need no change.

I agree that this assignment is ridiculous, but the way you speak sounds frighteningly close to putting the Constitution on the same level as Scripture. The Constitution, as useful and well-written as it is, is still a fallible document written by fallible men. It's inferiority to Scripture can be shown most plainly by the fact that the Constitution has had several amendments (in fact, this very page is all about them). God's Word, on the other hand, needs no amendments. The Law of The Lord is perfect.

This is not negotiable: Our Constitution is not up for changing. We hold these Truths to be self evident. If God is in hanging and He is, then that document is fine the way it is. Perhaps we need to change our hearts of stone into hearts of flesh that we might be transformed.
