Reports of an active shooter triggered a lockdown at Fort Hood with local sheriff's deputies and the FBI immediately responding to the threat.

A U.S. Army official at Fort Hood confirms that a shooting has occurred at the base, though the number of people injured and the severity of their injuries has not been confirmed.

NBC News reports as many as eight people may be injured and that there may be two people responsible for the shooting. One of those is believed to be "down" while the second is at-large. ...

Penny, they kept the guns locked up even on bases in Viet Nam, Penny, except when cleaning weapons target practice, or under potential attack. Personally, over there I thought we should be carrying rifles on base to thwart any possible attacks. I doubt if the Army ever allowed this.

Actually, there would be too many accidental shootings no doubt happening even by the most careful soldier. Young men can sometimes be in ill-temper for a variety of reasons, so many more shootings could happen as well. No, in the states, unless you're an MP or on guard duty, I don't even see the need for having weapons on hand.

For one of the 10 best cities to live in the nation, we have one killing apparently over a card game, and these in the last two weeks, Party ends with shots fired. No, I'll agree with the military on this one, having been in it, I see why the restriction on guns -- a very good idea. Just too much danger for harm from friendly fire, let alone the nuts.

seems to me you have a base of fully functional soldiers, why aren't they allowed to defend themselves?
