Commissioner ‘Willing To Go To Jail’ Opening Meeting With Prayer Despite Judge’s Ruling

A Carroll County commissioner said she was “willing to go to jail” opening up a board meeting with a prayer despite a federal judge in Maryland ruling the board has to stop with opening meetings with prayers that reference Jesus Christ or any specific deity.

“If we cease to believe that our rights come from God, we cease to be America,” Robin Bartlett Frazier said Thursday. “We’ve been told to be careful. But we’re going to be careful all the way to Communism if we don’t start standing up and saying ‘no.’” ...

A Song of Ascents. Of David.

Psalm 133
1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For brethren to dwell together in unity!
2 It is like the precious oil upon the head,
Running down on the beard,
The beard of Aaron,
Running down on the edge of his garments.
3 It is like the dew of Hermon,
Descending upon the mountains of Zion;
For there the Lord commanded the blessing—
Life forevermore.

Thanks to all for your uplifting comments.

Dorcas, thanks for the Great Master Gardener clip. It's an all too often challenge for me to trust that He is guiding my footsteps, especially when my spirit is down. But, as the poem goes, it is during those times that He carries us instead of walking beside us. Great to see you posting again, btw.

Chris, whenever you are up to it will be fine. Yup, gift of gab! But I love your posts so keep them coming.

Anne, Thanks for sharing your "recliner moment" with us. These are precious memories that will be with you all your days..... even when you're old and gray like some of us and can't remember where you left your teeth.

Reminds me of a cute joke. An elderly pastor typically preached about a 50 minute sermon but one Sunday he went on and on for almost two hours. After the service someone asked him what happened. He answered: Apparently I grabbed my wife's dentures this morning by mistake. (Surely God has a sense of humor to put up with us.)

Penny, you're welcome. Hate to see anyone troubled without a cause.

Didn't mean to leave anyone out. Praise God for you all.

Had this written in the fly leaf of one of my Bibles:
"The Great Master Gardener, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,in a wonderful providence, with His own Hand, planted me here, where by His Grace,in this part of His vineyard, I grow;and here I will abide till the Great Master of the vineyard think fit to transplant me".
Thought some of my brethren and sisters would benefit from this today as the Lord in His kindness brought it to my remembrance.
Hello Christopher.

Hi Penny....I have been thinking on this also, and have read thru the comments.I did not see any mean spirited remarks.I don't want to say to much but I think it does go back to some previous differences on other threads and perhaps some are harboring hurt feelings. As I posted to Lurker last night I do hope we can all agree to disagree and still be friends at the end of the day.
For many of us this is the only fellowship that we have with other believers...and I would hate to see it be reduced to squabbling and people threatening to break fellowship.Hope I did not offend..but these are just some of my thoughts.

thank you Lurker for lightening the load. this has been a heavy one for me. I cannot put out personal comments on this forum as much as I would in private conversation. I looked back and could not figure out what the mean spirited post was that caused all of this? but it is good to see the brothers and sisters in Christ here. My heart hurts for what Christopher (such a common theme in these days!) has gone through and rejoices in his salvation and sure hope in Christ.

Dorcas, I was laughing so hard at your recliner comment... Just a few hours before bed that night, I had sat down in my husbands recline with the baby. One of the little boys decided Mom needed her feet up and flipped the recliner open. I was prepared but the almost-2-year old brother who happened to be walking directly in front of the foot rest at precisely the wrong moment was NOT! It literally flung him off his feet and the look on his face was absolutely hillarious. He was completely unharmed and, as a matter of fact, the two have been trying to figure out how to recreat their stunt. See? Even for "recliner time" there are seasons... Our recliner time is a little less restful! Lol

Dolores, my parents love to tell me "Grandchildren are God's reward for not killing your teenagers." I can honestly say our children bring us so very close to the throne of God all day, every day - for a variety of reasons, but what a blessing!!

I agree with Lurker in that Barry was speaking in general and not at anyone in particular.
Lurker, sorry I haven't got back to you but will. Haven't had the mental energy for a long email to relate that story. You'll find it very interesting. Gift of gab? Ha-ha. Only on this forum. I am very quiet throughout the day and only post in the AM normally because I seem to have more mental energy.
Dolores, I am actually not bad looking and am in decent shape as well. Like you though, because of my terrible childhood, my self esteem has always been non existant. A family that never expressed emotion, never said "good job", never came to watch me at at sporting events, choir...anything, but made sure to beat my body with belts and call me a liar when abused in other ways. Ran away many times, foster homes, juvi, etc, and it was always my fault and never an apology from anyone to this day. Just silence like nothing ever happened. Anyway, whenever I get a compliment to this day, I change the topic immediately because I think they are lying. Pretty sad for children to be so damaged by parents who should have never had children and to suffer such low self esteem for absolutely no reason. Thank God for God. I should have been in prison and/or dead many times over without Him.

@ Lurker...thanks for your input.
It seems to be much ado about nothing.
Sure hope we can all be civil and agree to disagree without nastiness and hurt feelings.
Beginning with myself...may we all remember the Lord is watching.

Dolores, Anne and Dorcas,

Thank you all so much for your encouragement. The Lord knows my spirit has been down for some time and your kindness and care has refreshed me greatly.

I wish I had Chris's and Dolores's gift of gab but, alas, by the grace of God I am what I am..... a quite loner. I look forward to reading all your posts daily even though I seldom respond. But I will say that I appreciate the fellowship of the brothers and sisters here on SA and pray daily that God will heal the hurt of His people.

It's dark and evil days we live in and we need each other, to help bear each others burdens, pray for each other and praise God for answered prayers. And pray I do, and will do, for all the SA family of God.

Praise God for you all.

Lurker...that hymn is a personal favorite of mine.
Your family members are on the prayer list at our home.
May our gracious and merciful God open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto GOD!

Hello dear sister Anne ,,,I was refreshed in my spirit when I saw your post and Lurkers.
I have been under the juniper tree many days lately.....Your prayers for our lost family members are much coveted and appreciated.
As for Bro. Frank I believe he is just taking a hiatus for awhile...things can get a little tense on the forum from time to time.
Sometimes we older saints just need to nap in our recliners for a season.
I know I do
Love and prayers to you all!

Ok, so I know we aren't supposed to double up the comments here, but, I am.

Frank, haven't seen from you for a while (granted, I'm in a busy season so I haven't followed anything here closely of late). Just wanted to let you know you, too, are in our prayers. I do hope things are going well with you and yours.

Dolores, we can all speak the truth in love - we need not pay any attention to the slights of others. I appreciate your candid comments whether I agree or not. Your input is still thought provoking and often turns me toward the word of God. What could be better than that?

Lurker, heard the song and it is one of my favorites, I cry sometimes when I listen to it because when my youngest son, who was so rebellious as a teenager and God saved him at age 18. I was fearful that he would go back into his old ways of drinking. One day while singing this song in church, God spoke to my heart to not worry that what he had begun in Marc He would finish and if I would start to worry I was reminded of the song. He is now 42 yrs old with a Chrstian wife and children and knows the Bible and we sit around talking about it and he knows it well. The thing is he was not a good reader and hated to read but he has read the Bible through more than once. He was reading out of the King James Version. Never under estimate the power of God. He still works miracles.
