New Study Claims Spanking Children Leads to Aggression

A new study says that parents who spank their children are part of a “vicious cycle” that will lead to more spankings and more misbehavior.

According to the study from the Columbia University School of Social Work in New York City, in a child’s first 10 years, spankings will lead to more misbehavior in the future.

Ah, an old study SteveR, also what should be pointed out that parents should be consistent in discipline. Punishing a certain one time and ignoring it another time, isn't correct.

Yes, good response.

One should set aside their emotions and wrath before disciplining their children.

James 1:20 KJV
[20] For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

There was a great study done a few years ago; they looked at the differences between how some parents spanked their children;
To sum it up: parents who are inconsistent and only spank when angry or embarrassed FAIL 90+ % of the time. Parents who separate discipline from the emotional response, and are consistent have a 90+ % SUCCESS rate. The problem is, MOST parents who spank their kids are doing it wrong. This is why there is so much data saying spanking is bad... Your kids will be GREAT, if you discipline them properly, but you would be better off leaving them to their own devices like stever said than to abuse them, because there is at least hope.

Liberalism is destroying all authority decency and morals in the western nations.
Taking authority and moral responsibility away from parents - and destroying marriage - is another form of Liberal destruction.
Making spanking out to be the demon it is not in normal families - is further proof that Liberalism is evil and ignorance.
Liberal school in liberal university in liberal city comes to dumb conclusion. Yet the same liberal mentality that some would call them "civilized" for, because of their ridiculously strict gun laws.

no, lack of a caring father and mother leads to endless frustrations, and the Lord ordained the church to be a support to the orphan and widow for this reason.

Proverbs 13:24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

Proverbs 22:15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

Proverbs 23:13 Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.

FYI. The Hebrew word translated "rod" above is

"Shebet" (7626)
"From an unused root probably meaning to branch off; a scion, that is, (literally) a stick (for punishing, writing, fighting, ruling, walking, etc.) or (figuratively) a clan: - X correction, dart, rod, sceptre, staff, tribe."

Be careful, I am seeing pragmatism rearing its ugly head.
I spank and my child is incredibly rebelious.
I spank out of obedience to God's word. I get angry when I desire results. One is sin.....

They understood we did fear the LORD and cherished them. The LORD Blessed us with fine children. Most importantly we are honoured as parents

I'll stick to what the Bible teaches.
Proverbs 23:13-14 "Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.
14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver him from hell."
Proverbs 29:15 "The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame."
Amen. Of course these worldly studies from humanistic institutions are going to have conclusions opposite the Bible.

You never think so at the time, but, in retrospect, I'm grateful for the spankings I got. They steered me from the wrong path onto the right one--and kept me from going down some wrong paths in the first place. Parents who love their children discipline them--just as our Heavenly Father disciplines us because He loves us (Heb. 12).
