World Vision: Why We're Hiring 'Gay' Christians in Same-Sex 'Marriages'

In an exclusive interview, World Vision U.S. president Richard Stearns explained to Christianity Today the rationale behind changing this "condition of employment," whether financial or legal pressures were involved, and whether other Christian organizations with faith-based hiring rules should follow World Vision's lead.

Stearns asserts that the "very narrow policy change" should be viewed by others as "symbolic not of compromise but of [Christian] unity." He even hopes it will inspire unity elsewhere among Christians. ...

First of all I apologize for confusing you with SteveR

Second and IMHO this is quite important on the subject of bitterness.

IMHO is has been abused by some in authority in our churches as a means of controlling people.

For example if those in authority are negligent and cowardly in teaching people the truth and standing up for it, in exposing, standing and speaking out against evil, both within and without the church. Purpose driven/seeker sensitive and ecumenical "ministries" are famous for

And a church member dares to object and refuses to go along in silence, and is genuine hurt by their misleadership, one of the ways those who are in leadership malign and marginalize someone with vocal objection is to label (liable is a better word) them as bitter and in need of their counciling.

I trust we can come out with our own examples in how hurt and wounded people can be mislabeled as bitter.

The Diotrephes Syndrome:
http://www.thefaithfulword.org/diotrephes.html

So as humbly as I might say so, don't let anyone mislead you from the truth, under the guise of the problem is bitterness, in so doing ignoring the sin/evil that is really wrong.

Jeremiah 17:9
"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?"

The heart is deceitful more to the self than to others. It longs for what it does not have, what it cannot have without its renewing by Christ. This longing is placed there by God, for man is ever incomplete without him, but it is redirected by Satan. Every sin is an attempt to satisfy that which cannot in any other way but renewing be satisfied, and leads to deeper sin in its futile search for it. Covetousness is an attempt to fill what cannot be filled without regeneration. It is a downward spiral in an individual, with societal degeneracy following. This coveting, out of the deceitful heart, is at the root of all evil of whatever name, whether for power, money, control, material goods, sexual perversity, whatever.

1 Tim 6:10 Wycliffe
"For the root of all evils is covetousness, which some men coveting erred from the faith, and besetted them(selves) with many sorrows"

Some great comments that expounded on my understanding of the Sodom/Gomorrah event. Many homosexuals are the products of being molested by family members and/or raped by close family friends. For many others, homosexuality, not unlike pedophilia, is the end of a long history of deviant sexual viewing and acts. Kind of like a drug addict alwys trying to chase their first high, something has been damaged so they are always looking for something new and using more and more. They are always searching for the satisfaction they once experienced but because they have done it all and seen it all, the satisfaction forever eludes them. What was once taboo and reprehensible, is now common place and they can never get enough while always searching for something new, something different, hence children, off-limits same sex, along with every dark thing one can imagine. Thank God thoughts and irges such as this never entered into my mind.

This is exactly what I thought US when reading through the debate. The heart of man's problem is the problem of his heart. There is the root cause of every sin, as Ladybug has already mentioned.

Social Gospel is demonic, it desires to be the Gospel when in fact it's a poisonous gospel that damned the souls of men and women, It usurp the authority of the Gospel of Paul - Christ Crucified. Sin of sodomy, the LUST OF THE FLESH, is everywhere and to pass the blame on social circumstances is to deny the fact that man is a willful sinner.

Social Gospel lover is no different than those persons giving free watchtower magazines or mormon bibles.

I wonder when Richard Stearns will announce that World Vision is going to start hiring racist and pedophiles? Oh yeah, he wouldn't because he thinks those things are wrong. Homosexuality not so much.

well done 1517, stever, being true to the text.

"Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy." Ezekiel 16:49

The Messiah who turned over the moneychangers tables, the NT who warns of the rich among you, that the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil, there is a correlation between the usery of people for power (money) and power (sexually deviance and aggression such as sodomy).

I wonder if any here have ever had to live among a sodomite community. I'm sure there are some that are more "victim" types, but the crowd can be quite vile and masochistic.... Romans 1 talks of being given over.

there is some rebellion against the word of God here on this thread, there is a way of life, God does not like the proud or haughty, wants the orphan and widow among you taken care of. statism has had its effect. to equate socialism with the gospel is obviously just as erroneous.

James 1.13-15
Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: but every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

The anatomy of sin according to the Holy Spirit in James 1 agrees with your view too.

Ahem:
Yes, Baptist. No ecumenical.
Next; I never said that pride is the only thing that leads to Homosexuality. In the case OF SODOM it was Pride, fullness of bread, lack of concern for the poor, abundance of idleness... Those things led to haughtiness which culminated in Homosexuality. Some of you read the first three words and take off without seeing the rest.

The real issue is the rejection of God as an authority. In Sodom, they didn't need God, or his morals, because they were a rich culture. THAT is where I drew the parallel. If YOU choose to be gay, then you have your reasons; but overall the reason behind it culturally is a rejection of God.

Melarow- I appreciate your perspective, but I've been saved a long time, and I've seen my share if people falling into sin. The fact is, most of the time it does start small. Very few people jump from Sunday School to serial killer in one jump. It is a progression. And this is the experience of 20 plus years in the prison ministry with adult offenders as well as and working with and counseling juvenile offenders.

You are right. There is no mention of pride in Romans 1, and the theory that all sins proceeds from pride is untenable. Pride itself is a sin. From whence does this proceed?

Ladybug,
I understand what you are saying. Pride says we know better than anyone, including God. That certainly does not negate it's offspring LUST. Lust is definitely right there burning hot. I praise God that he brought you out of that darkness. I know about lust, so I empathize sister.

I just do not see pride as being the root cause, what I see is suppressing of the truth. According to your logic, pride is the root of all sin?

Our sin nature that we inherited from Adam, and the fact that we are born sinners, has a lot to do with it as well. We are born depraved, loving sin; that isn't because we are prideful, rather, it's because of our own depravity and wickedness.

I do not agree with your theology, but respect your right to express your views.

BTW, as a former lesbian, I know where my sin was rooted, and believe me, it was NOT pride...it was LUST.
