Are Young Christians ‘Embarrassingly Ignorant’ of Their Faith?
A Christian professor is tackling the claim that young believers are “embarrassingly ignorant” of their faith in a new book intended to answer some of theology’s most asked questions.

Dr. Darrell Bock, professor at Dallas Theological Seminary, joined co-authors Dr. Andreas J. Kostenberger and Dr. Josh Chatraw in tackling atheism, human suffering, perceived Biblical “mistakes” and other related themes in “Truth Matters: Confident Faith in a Confusing World.”

Bock recently told TheBlaze that Christianity’s struggle to maintain its voice in U.S. culture might not actually be a bad thing — and highlighted the reasons he believes the faithful have struggled to articulate their religious views. ...

C.S. Lewis halted a generation of would-be converts in their tracks when he famously said, “I didn’t go to religion to make me happy. I always knew a bottle of Port would do that. If you want a religion to make you feel really comfortable, I certainly don’t recommend Christianity.”

R.K. writes:
Maybe their graduates are ignorant of "their" faith but the Holy Spirit doesn't make ignorant believers.

That is my thought as well. It is hard for me to believe a true born again Christian would not desire to read and learn Gods word.

2 Timothy 2:15 "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

Dispy Dipping Dallas Theological Seminary would make such a claim. Maybe their graduates are ignorant of "their" faith but the Holy Spirit doesn't make ignorant believers. By definition believers know what they believe.

2 John 1:1-2 KJV
[1] The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth; [2] For the truth's sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.

I've found most baptists are great at proof texts but not so good at understanding.

Well, especially if they are members of a mainline church! My church and undoubtedly many independent fundamentalist Baptist churches do a good job of teaching their children about Christianity. However, if any child is a current of his faith, that responsibility falls upon the father, q.v., Instructions to Husbands, Fathers and Their Wives.
