Why Did Millions of Christian Women Share This Article?

It happened around Valentine’s Day, when loving couples are supposed to be choosing gifts for one another. Instead, many were reading—and sharing—Lee Grady’s Fire in My Bones column entitled “10 Men Christian Women Should Never Marry.” It went massively viral, shared nearly 2 million times on charismamag.com alone.

The question is, why?

As mentioned, Lee wrote the column the week of Valentine’s Day, so the timing may have had something to do with it. However, he had no idea 2 million people would read it and that nearly 1.5 million would share it.

I’ve known Lee for more than 30 years. I know he has a solid marriage. I know he mentors a lot of young men and that the subject of marriage often comes up. He’s definitely got God’s wisdom on the matter. But was it just his wisdom that caused the rush to share it far and wide? ...

Christopher, you need to step back and realize that other people may not be like you,you accuse me of "extreme" anger" because I do not include the emotion and qualifiers in my post that you think I should.

It would be best to quote me expressing "extreme anger" as commonly defined and let my words convict me rather than making broad, sweeping judgments simply because you don't care for my style of communication.

The bible speaks to man in plain and direct laquage minus the emotional euphemistic language so popular today and I feel comfortable doing the same and feel it is what is needed in today's world

...While I love a Christian woman, I hate to see them leading a church. I also hate to see a woman wearing the family pants where the man is obviously in submission, I hate to see women leading travelling crusades, pastor or reverand in front of their names, or out of order in any other way within the church, etc, etc.
I'm also careful to note how much we need them, how much they compliment us, and how they provide the things within the family dynamic that we can't. We're to love them as we love our bodys, treat them with respect, and protect them physically, mentally, and spiritually.

I never even said I disagreed with anything, but rather, it's the approach that has boggled my mind and the extreme anger. I hate many of the things that happen to men simply because a woman claimed it happened. I hate that the courts are unfairly biased to women in family courts. I hate that there are women acting like men on the battlefield. I hate that there are women who dress like men complete with boyish haircuts. I hate that a womans beauty can beguile a man so easily. I hate that a womans abuse is laughed about while a man goes to jail. I hate that a female child molester is treated with compassion many times while the men are monsters. I hate that a woman can slap a man while the man gets jail time and a restraining order. None of this is right, of course, but there is an imbalance with both sexes being treated unfairly at times.

I tend to agree with a lot of what Strat is saying here. I would also like to remind the gentlemen that for many Godly women, they are just as disgusted by the nanny state as well. When there are strong families in a church, for instance, where the relationships are strong and healthy, there is not a desire there for the relationships to be undermined by unjust law (ie nanny state).

You know we are all imperfect and both men and women play a part in broken marriage. Though if you were to listen to some sermons on here, most preachers believe a failed marriage is 90% the man's fault. He is the leader and the female is naturally the responder. But nevertheless no matter whether you married an evil wife or a horrible husband, God is good and in His everlasting love and mercy is able to change even the hardest hearts. Prayer is essential for a happy marriage and tons of patience and self sacrifice.
Might I add a sense of humor doesn't hurt either

Likewise your response is typical,i speak outside the modern liberal "Christian" narrative so you don't respond well to it...you do however respond with lots of assumptions and accusations...it's ok because I know who I am,my words do not contain the required emotional content so are not that well received...that's ok to.

I have not condemned anyone, called anyone names or anything like that,i ask for scripture to back things up but rarely get anything other than how somebody feels about this or that.

Why do you not question a woman who compiles a list of men to avoid ? not PC ? why do you assume that just because I suggest some biblical balance to the issue that I must have had bad experiences ? havn't we all had bad experiences ?do you assume as you do with me that she had bad experiences ?

The bible calls both men and women to righteousness and holiness,it does not call one to achieve political and social advantage over the other in order to gain power and control and have its behavior go unquestioned...that is the way of the world ? do you agree with the way of the world and that the world's way should be the way in the church ?

In reading most of your post all I would say to you is that innocent victims don't repent...guilty sinners do.

By the way, I'm assuming it's too personal, but I'd like to know what's happened in your life that's caused you to be so down on women in general. Like Get Real has apparently had some hard knocks that has caused her to distrust, even hate men, I feel like you've had some really bad things happen as well. Who hasn't really, but some go through things that others never experience. Maybe a custody battle? I know the American courts belong to the females and rarely are the men awarded custody which is unfair many times, etc. I just think you have it out for the women here as well which isn't fair to them. Maybe give them a chance and get to know them better.

Typical. I stopped back by just to see if you posted, and you posted exactly what I figured you would, and in the manner you did. Having a conversation in a non aggressive, non combative, friendly, open minded, Christlike way would allow people to figure out where your coming from, why, and maybe you would get to know why others comment the way they do as well, feel any particular way, etc. You always seem extremely angry, judgemental, amd quick to condemn anyone and everyone who may have a different opinion than yours which always seems to be the right one.

Why did millions of "Christian" women share this article ? because many of them are feminist and no different from any other woman in secular society who blame men for everything and love to see it in print.

A list just as long could be made about the type of women Christian men should avoid....specifically the kind that will bring them a lifetime of misery and financial ruin.

Trouble with the list is that everybody marries a stranger and its only after a few years of marriage that you really get to know them properly.
There is a lot of truth to this. While you can never fully and completely know another person prior to marriage, with today's society being so mobile and anonymous, and the breakdown of so many families, it's almost impossible to marry someone that you have a lifelong history with.

Well, it does seem that women are much more sensitive to criticism than men, and the idea that a woman's behavior is ever called out as sinful or wrong is politically incorrect. Criticising or even bashing men, however, happens all the time and is quicker to go viral, as this article indicates.
It pains me, as a female, to type this, but it's true.

Appreciate your post.
Speaking as a father of a soon to be 20 year old daughter I appreciate the warning of the types of men a Christian women should NEVER marry.

And by the grace of God may our daughters indeed have the leading of the Spirit and the character to refuse to marry such.
