Support for Israel Fading in Evangelical Circles
Support for Israel today isn’t as unquestioned as it once was in evangelical circles. Today evangelical leaders on both sides say that the millennial generation sees the conflict differently – viewing it with a perspective of neutrality and empathy for both sides.

In June 2011, with church leaders convening in Cape Town, South Africa, for the third Lausanne Congress of World Evangelization, the Pew Research Center conducted a survey among evangelical leaders. The findings showed lower support for Israel than many expected. In fact, when asked if they sympathize more with Israelis or with Palestinians, a majority of American evangelical leaders (49%) expressed neutrality. Of the leaders polled, thirty percent stated support for Israelis, and 13% for the Palestinians.

Hmm, sloppy copying of a URL What About God's Promises to Israel?, since it's a new message, I might as well add a couple of more, What do you do with a future National Israel in the Bible?

Finally this is a --long-- article written by a Christian written to what he hoped was basically a Jewish audience, but it's a good read for Christians also, and he points out some of the reasons for the attack on the support of Israel, Mosaic Magazine » Evangelicals and Israel. Yes, it was worth posting again.

General and Lady Virtue

Lurker, you have to remember that, God Has Not Rejected or Replaced Israel. You'll find plenty of Biblical references in that sermon, and I would suggest that many read the summary for it found at that URL.

Apparently, gentlemen you don't take the book of Revelation literally (The last time I looked it was in the KJV) I would suggest you listen to the sermon, An Overview of Revelation and see Revelation Series 2008. Some Views of the Prophesied Kingdom are wrong, If you want more verses than you can shake a stick at, read, Jesus Is Coming Again.

Lady Virtue, and others I see you have a grasp on the Abrahamic Covenant, I would suggest many of you at least read the summary for the sermon, The Abiding Abrahamic Covenant.

Context: Isa 11:10 Then in that day The nations will resort to the root of Jesse, Who will stand as a signal for the peoples; And His resting place will be glorious.
Fulfillment: Rom 15:8 For I say that Christ has become a servant to the circumcision on behalf of the truth of God to confirm the promises given to the fathers, and for the Gentiles to glorify God for His mercy; as it is written: “THERE SHALL COME THE ROOT OF JESSE, AND HE WHO ARISES TO RULE OVER THE GENTILES, IN HIM SHALL THE GENTILES HOPE.”
Nope. Fulfilled when Paul was sent to the Gentiles just like the KJV reads. Believe the bible or believe your articles. Or maybe the Holy Spirit is a prooftexter? Whadda ya think, Jim?
Great post Lurker!

For the last commentator, I would suggest you look over, articles on eschotolgy, such as ESCHATOLOGY--Different Rapture Views or if you have the time, listen to the sermon, Pre- Vs Post Tribulational Rapture.

The tribulation is all in the future, which means the final future of Israel is just that, in the future--Does God Have a Future for Israel?: A Study of Romans 11.

From the article: "I believe, without a shadow of doubt, that Old Testament promises made to national Israel will literally be fulfilled in the future. This means the Bible teaches that God will return the Jews to their land before the tribulation begins (Isa. 11:11-12:6....)

Isa 11:11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.

Context: Isa 11:10 And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

Fulfillment: Rom 15:8-12 Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers: And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written,[...] There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust.

Already fulfilled.

To fulfill biblical prophecy, the nation of Israel must be forsaken by all (including America) and have no hope of survival against the invading hoards. The the Lord God shall appear and smite the enemies of the nation and bring the nation to true repentance.

Romans 11:
15 For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead? 16 For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.

18 Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.

20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:

25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: 27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.

28 As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes. 29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

Israel and the Church: the Differences or some reading material, What do you do with a future National Israel in the Bible?.

Now a rather long article which was really I think designed to explain Evangelicals to Israelis seems to be needed to explain Israel to many Christians, Mosaic Magazine » Evangelicals and Israel.

far too long this has been used as a proverbial rabbit's foot.

even a parent doesn't give complete freedom to use the parent's goods without account.

I can think of no relationship on earth, even between husband and wife where there is no account for behavior.

And so when we go to the realm of unaccountable support it becomes idolatry.

and this is the problem, when evangelicals are told its for this particular cause, they do not check out the facts and see if what is being promoted is of the Lord.

it never occurs to them that all people are sinners and that all need mutual accounting.

scripturally, when they were in Nat'l covenant it was always conditioned on their obedience to Mosaic law. when they went pagan, sacrificing babies and all, they lost their favor with God.

so unconditional support of anyone and anytime with no checks and balances is simply not biblical.

I often wonder if this is why so many evangelicals are out of step with international news, they've essentially been told that anything they may hear is a lie and only believe their eschatology charts.

When we turn our backs on Israel we will discover our own shame. There is no debate about who God has chosen, be they saved by Grace or His people. See Romans 11.

Im not surprised

However, I see this as an overreaction to the failure of the heresy of dispenationalisms ability to explain the most basic spiritual matters, and a reflection of its loss in denominational appeal.
