Rick Warren Squashes Rumors; Says He Strongly Opposes Uganda's Anti-Homosexuality Law

Pastor Rick Warren on Sunday strongly condemned rumors that he supported a controversial law passed in Uganda last week that allows those convicted of homosexuality to be imprisoned for life. The pastor of California's Saddleback Church underscored that he is against the law today just as he was in 2009 when it was first proposed.

"Only fools believe everything they hear!" Warren wrote, quoting Proverbs 14:15.

The rumor started four years ago when Rachel Maddow of MSNBC "falsely accused me of supporting the law – without ever bothering to check with me if it was true," he explained on his Facebook page.

Last week, when the "bad law" passed, the rumors popped up again, he noted. Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni signed the anti-homosexuality bill into law, stating, "No study has shown you can be homosexual by nature. That's why I have agreed to sign the bill." ...

Good Morning
GSTexas

Actually I think RW has quite a bit of head knowledge of Biblical Doctrine and the real problem with him and others like him (and can be with us too if we are not on guard) is that He does not fear the LORD.

For that matter if you or I would talk with people today, even church people about the Fear of the LORD, it seems many of them, sadly even seminary educated pastors, would know little of what the Bible says, let alone treasure it in thier lives.

Much learning and growing to do here.

Thanks guys.

As much as I dislike Rick Warren, I dont want to be disingenuous and misrepresent his ministry. His ministry requires no misrepresentation to be shown unbiblical, just a little research and an understanding of Biblical doctrine reveals this guy for the false teacher he is.

None of those things cause spiritual emptiness, but are rather the result of spiritual emptiness. Man is spiritually empty because he is born with a sin nature inherited from Adam (Romans 5:12) and has sinned against a holy God (Romans 3:23). What is the point in fighting these issues without first adressing the real issue (man has sinned against a holy God, and is in need of a savior) by spreading the Gospel? It truly saddens my heart that so many are deceived by this charlatan.
Well said. Not a rant and not to feel foolish for.

Actually, I think I misread the article. After reading the quote again, it appears that spiritual emptiness is supposed to be one of the global giants.

I feel foolish, ignore my rant.

"Warren stresses that his role is always pastoral, not political. His ministry's PEACE Plan is an effort "to mobilize Christians around the world to address … the "five global giants" of spiritual emptiness, corrupt leadership, poverty, disease, and illiteracy"

This man is woefully ignorant of sound biblical doctrine. There is only one "global giant" of spiritual emptiness, and that is sin. Romans 16:17-18 "Now I beseech you, bretheren, mark them which cause divisions and offenses contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them,
18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple."

Michael, you are so right, Chuch leadership has failed to do its job for sure!! Dooey, you won't see me doing much debating on here about different Churches and beliefs.I have found it doesn't do a lot of good. My calling is teaching and you will read a lot of stories with lessons I have been shown to pass on to others and maybe reach a lost soul out there somewhere, also. Sometimes my teaching will be a rebuke of something I see as wrong but I try not to do it in anger. God bless, Dooey and Michael

If you want to be upset with anyone, it would be far better to take issue with those in church leadership who are failing in this not a sister in Christ who IMHO is seeking to do the best she can do in what is essentially a mindfield of a mess in today's Christian society in America

Beside if you can do better lose the moniker post under your real name and take your stand.

I think you will find in a hurry there is alot of learning and growing to do, and the very real possibility you will mess up.

My hatred of evil in this matter is not so much opposition to RW although it is that BUT also or even more for those in church leadership who refused to vet this man (and others like him), expose him to their denominations and congregation and stand up for the truth explaining Biblically why, but instead promoted him and his teachings in the church, BECAUSE if those in leadership had been faithful to teach the truth and protect those entrusted to them from false teaching we would simply not have the mess we have today.

Why have you chosen to omit "among yourselves" from the verses of Peter?

Is it because they suppress the intended accusation?
