A baptism manual produced by Pastor Steven Furtick's popular Elevation Church in North Carolina, which teaches people how to produce "spontaneous" baptisms among the repentant, is being criticized as "emotional manipulation."
The manual, Spontaneous Baptism How-To Guide, was produced by Elevation Church in 2011 and received its first critique in November from James Duncan, a Christian blogger and associate professor of communication at Anderson University who lives in South Carolina.
"As a church we pray Sun Stand Still prayers all the time. We are constantly asking God to do something that seems impossible and then believing that He is going to pull through," explains the introduction to the guide.
"Most recently we prayed and asked God to lead thousands of people to take a public stand in their faith in Christ through baptism. God blew our minds and in two weekends we saw 2,158 respond and...
this is the kind of thing I just don't understand. men using the flesh to build the Kingdom of God? have we forgotten the character of God, to reflect the character of God? I've seen over the years many a Godly believer follow carnal methods from the pulpit, it makes me wonder, does not the Spirit in them become disturbed at such things? One church that was warrenizing themselves aimed their services to the youth. they forgot that all that God sends to your community is a gift from God, that the old need the young and the young need the old. they acted as the world and cut apart what God joined together. the music would be played so loud the older ones who built up the church had pain in their ears, and were chastised from the pulpit out the door. music that loud is going to hurt the ears of the young over time anyway. why? I just wondered, why does the wheat put up with such chaff? blessed are the pure in heart.
Modern western Christianity has taught people that it is man who accepts God and is saved.
Biblical Christianity teaches that it is God who accepts man and saves him.
From this one lie many lies have developed, the idea that people lead people to Jesus when the bible says that saved people are witnesses to the gospel and it is God who draws men to Jesus and salvation.
The man centered gospel offers souls as trophies and notches on one's spiritual bedpost and will damn many but it makes them feel good and the road to hell broad and smooth
This is straight out of hell and these folks (this church and pastor) are fooling people into thinking they are going to be okay. This is a doctrine of the devil, that this pastor has created with this so called Baptisim Manual. He is a WOLF in somewhat sheeps clothing!
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; (2 Timothy 4:3 KJV) Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; (1 Timothy 4:1 KJV)
