70 million Americans taking mind-altering drugs

The heroin-overdose death of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has caused the media to focus, however fleetingly, on America’s drug problem.

News accounts of the Oscar-winner’s tragic demise typically reference the startling increase in heroin-related deaths in the last four to five years. The problem, reporters explain, is the vast number of Americans addicted to prescription pain meds like OxyContin, many of whom discover heroin to be both cheaper and easier to obtain than the prescription opioid drugs to which they initially became addicted.

That’s accurate as far as it goes. But by following the trail further, we arrive at a place far more shocking and consequential. We discover that not only has the traditional distinction between illegal “street drugs” and legal “therapeutic prescription drugs” become so blurred as to be almost nonexistent, but between America’s twin drug epidemics – one ...

Some other reasons for regulation

It keeps prices and profits high for the drug cartels and politicans and other officials on their payroll.

It provideds an excellent path to tyranny under the guise of protecting the people.

It provides comfort for people who get a rush by thinking somebody somewhere is being controlled on their behalf, and that benevolent father government is building a safe secure world for them to play in.

Thanks Jim and Dorcas...yes, I.am listening to my friends. : )

Thanks Dolores, and that's pretty much where I am at. I have never made excuses for anything, blaming what I have done in life on others, what has been done to me, etc. I've always taken full responsibility, unlike many who play the blame game for their decisions and woes. As for all the horrible things life dealt me during childhood and on up, I used to wonder why but then one day it hit me that maybe, just maybe, God allowed me to go through the house of horrors I did so that I could genuinely relate to those who have been through the same in the future. What better witness is there to be speaking to a person who has been through the same as you, a person who gets it, was deeper than deep, and made it out? If I can ever help just one person out of the pit and point them towards Christ because of my own sufferings, I figure it was all worth it.

Christopher000, all of us are very glad to hear that you had ...Victory Over Sin Freedom From Addiction is what God wants.

Alcohol Use and [good] Health don't mix! I suppose because so much of the media slushing around in an ocean of booze, they really don't want to cover that at all.

Hi Dolores...thanks for those encouraging words to Christopher. So true.
If I might add, the Lord Jesus Christ and His glorious gospel of mercy and grace breaks those chains of bondage to sin and Satan to free us to serve him without fear,in holiness and righteousness before him;all the days of our life.
Hallelujah !! What a Saviour!

Christopher, yes God does have a plan for each one of us and the main plan God has for a Christian is to be His witness. An Ambassdor for Christ, how awesome is that? Everything we have experienced in life, good or bad, is never wasted if we are His Ambassadors. He uses them to bring comfort and hope to others as we all have our pain and struggles in this life. Sometimes God has used our stories to reach a lost person who is searching for answers in their pain and you cross paths along the way.Somebody reading this forum will be helped in ways we may never know about because some read but never respond through fear of condemnation of others and believe me Satan has his evil birds ready to take that seed out of their heats before it's had time to grow. You have a strong faith with love in your heart to give it out to others. People who are searching are turned off by the harshness and holier than thou attitude and you are none of that. Keep posting because that seems to be God's plan for you right now.

yep, a spiritual mess as well as physical.

look what pellagra did to the mental health of countless people and that was just b3 deficiency. cutting out essential foods as so many are, add to that chemicals galore in the body, people line up in droves to get injected with these chemicals, massive amounts of mercury in amalgams right near the brain, we have followed the evolutionists and rejected the biblical understanding of this life, through Christ and His Provision, putting our entire trust unabaited in man, scripture never calls for unaccountable trust (that's idolatry) -- many people stuck in this cycle have had incomes reduced and have few options, they think at least, I have great concern for the masses, when people are in trouble, Christians don't have answers, pastors don't have answers, mothers and their healthy foods, fathers and their passing on the torch, we think there's no answers and send them off for a little pill.

people need the land. we've left it and living on chemicals from China, God help us.

Well, I was one of those for many, many years...dealing at mid level and using. I have been addicted to pretty much everything but heroin which I was always afraid to try and swore never to use a needle for anything. Anyway, as some here already know, I was delivered...literally...overnight. I haven't used or had any urges since my beginning here a couple of years ago or so. Drugs, sex, and all the other stuff...just gone, like POOF!
God has always been.with me and I've always known it. He rescued me out from many terrible, even life threatening situations that I should have never made it out from, delivered me from many things, and has spared my life many times over the years. I have always felt like He has a plan for me...still, but I have no idea what it could be. I figure he must to have gone through all the trouble to keep me around over the years.
