Christian film stripped of ‘Best Song’ Oscar nomination

This year’s most-obscure Oscar nominee is no more.

At a meeting this week, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences board of governors decided to strip the surprise nomination for Best Song from “Alone Yet Not Alone,” which appears in the independent Christian-produced film of the same name.

The film’s status as a small Christian film led Orthodox Christian film blogger Peter Chattaway to predict charges of religious persecution in the coming days, playing off the image of Hollywood as a liberal bastion hostile to Christianity.

“The Academy may or may not have ruled correctly when it comes to Broughton’s e-mails. But it probably, however unintentionally, just gave certain Christians a little more fodder for their persecution narrative, and thereby threw just a little more fuel on the culture-wars fire. Sigh,” Mr. Chattaway wrote on his Patheos site Wednesday night. ...

Maybe because such movies teach or indicate unscriptural doctrines?

Yes, not a Calvie. Just a believer. Is God sanctifying the Sherwood Baptist people and telling them to make Hollywood-like movies?

Hey I just watched that "Courageous" movie and all the commentary and every stuff. Watched "Fireproof" a few weeks ago too. Didya all know the Lord is blessing these people and the Sherwood Baptist Club and is calling them to make all these movies? They're all praying right there on the set and the Lord is just doing amazing things!!! This must be that sanctification that the Calvies talk about.

I agree with Jessica, we must seek praise from God not man and not take this as a slap in the face against Christianity.
Why are we so deeply intertwined with the foolishness of this world?
Aren't we commanded to come out from among them and be separate?
Christian's our allegiance to God is a bit misconstrued.

I just listened to the song, and it is very beautiful ~ If we seek praise from God and not from humankind we will not take this situation as a harm against Christianity, but as a means of God to spread The Good News of The Gospel.

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."

~ Romans 8:28 KJV

It just might be a case of questionable ethics and not one of Christian persecution for the reason the song was removed from consideration of "Best Song" - check this article out: http://jensgems.wordpress.com/2014/01/22/alone-yet..

The problem with Hollywood even in the 50's & 60's is that they gave a Reader's Digest version of Bible stories, and with a lot fiction tossed in. While this particular article has a lot of good points, Why Hollywood Hates Christianity, attacking Romish priests is good, but then when you look over the article they aren't attacking the real ...Scandal of the Catholic Priesthood

Oh, and a review of the block buster, ... Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ.

Oh, well, maybe somewhat similar problems that the Scarlett Johannson commercial Palestinian workers back Scarlett Johansson's opposition to SodaStream boycott (+video) will boost the effect of the commercial and the film?

It may be an understanding of what Holy is.

Hollywood IS NOT worthy of the things of God. Christians keep God's to God's

So what's the problem, had the maker of this film been accepted and applauded by the filth of Hollywood would it have been some validation of his ability to make a film...is that what it means to be a Christian(insert title here) these days....having the world love you.

God wouldn't allow even this vaguely Christian mention in connection with his entertainment industry.

Ungodly industry. Not in his name.

"playing off the image of Hollywood as a liberal bastion hostile to Christianity."

Satan wouldn't allow even this vaguely Christian mention in connection with his entertainment industry.

Hollywood and theatre belongs to Satan as everybody knows.

Mark 3:25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 26 And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
