5 Really Bad Reasons To Leave Your Church

Let’s be honest, while there are some good reasons for leaving a church, there are a lot more bad ones. As a pastor, I hear some of them every now and then as people walk out the door. As a church planter, I hear them constantly as people walk in the door.

If you’re thinking about looking for a new church home, please don’t use one of these five reasons to make the jump:1. “I’m not being fed”

Thank you for your prayers, and for your thoughtful post. I'm getting to an age in my life where I know that at any time a loved one may pass away. I have a very large extended family who are getting very old.

I think of when Jacob died full of years, how Joseph and the Egyptians spent more than a month in great mourning. Then, I think of this day and age, and how people so often when an aged person dies, they bypass mourning and tears. "They lived a long life," people will say... Yet, my life has been one of sorrows, and I live as one who mourns...

May God bless you abundantly for praying for my afflicted soul; may God bless you as He blessed Ruth, for her kindness to Naomi...

"O Lord, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure. Have mercy upon me, O Lord; for I am weak: O Lord, heal me; for my bones are vexed. My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, O Lord, how long?"

~ Psalm 6:1-3 KJV

I'm SO sorry for your loss Jessica! I really shouldn't have asked at this time, but thanks for answering!
Oh I KNOW contemplative prayer isn't right Penny. Whenever somebody teaches a lot on prayer it makes me think they're practicing it (bad thought pattern, gotta change that)

As for the Facebook page Biblical prayers: I post Scriptures on prayer, or examples and situations of Biblical accounts of prayer, because praying according to God's will and God's Word is important. I post the Scriptures, and people who have "liked" the page receive the Scriptures on their news feed ~ and I get to learn more about prayer in the process. ~ Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ!

TeenChristian, if I may.... much of prayer is wrestling with God and letting Him win, and when He does, we have let go of sin unto rightouesness, and then He is able to gift us to live out the gospel. instead of "contemplation", why not study the work and power of the Holy Spirit and spiritual gifts as taught in scripture? what I see in your question is wanting an effective and experiential walk with Christ. I see this in other young people looking around for all kinds of things, because they've been taught the spiritual gifts are dead. I would suggest to search Acts and the lives of the first generation Christians, their faith was matched with works, a poured out life, and so they experienced God. I believe its the same today. hope this helps.

Btw, there are two sisters (SF Texas & Anne) who are expecting babies soon and we are all eagerly awaiting the news.
You are a blessing to me, dear sister, and may we all help bear each other's burdens.

Thank you Lurker for the encouragement!

My thoughts and prayers are with the sisters who are expecting, and am wishing them healthy deliveries and wisdom in caring for their newborns with God's love, nurturing, and gentleness.

My sisters in The Lord (on SermonAudio) who you mentioned are welcomed to send me an email. I pray that I will have an open heart to received whomever the Lord sends to me.

"Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."

Lurker,
I, too, was in your condition, i.e., not being able to find a sound, biblical church. HOWEVER, I did indeed find one through SermonAudio! I went to the "local church finder," typed in my zip code, typed in the maximum mile radius, and up popped several churches whose sermons I first listened to over the internet. Then, I visited those which, I believed, were sound -- based on those many sermons they offered online at SA.com.
I now have a local church to which I attend regularly.
Without SA.com, I would probably still be searching.
I hope this helps.
Thanks bro. Sounds like a good plan. I'll check it out.

That some of the men folk on here need good teaching, even if it comes from a woman. So don't you fret no more about what they may think. You just go right ahead and teach em what's right and proper! God bless you.

welcome back Jessica. I think its been awhile, hasn't it?
Hi Penny, I did make a couple of posts in December, probably for the sake of nostalgia. I now moderate a small Facebook group called Biblical Prayers ~ I post Scriptures about prayer and it helps me learn and grow. I also have a personal Facebook page of more than fifty Christian women (who I have not met in person), and experience being mentored, friendship and fellowship in a private setting online.

I still use Biblegateway online almost everyday, to either look up Scriptures for the prayer page or to listen to their audio Bibles. I wanted to find an alternate way of fellowship than SermonAudio, because I did not want to offend the male believers who were getting upset with me for "teaching a man."

God bless and peace be with your spirit!

Greetings in the mighty Name of Jesus!

I have not spent a lot of time on SermonAudio in the last several years. I did make a couple of posts last December, and didn’t get any response to them. It is nice to share Christian fellowship online, especially when I most often do not have in person fellowship with others. Yet praise God indeed for the provision of electronic communication and the freedom to enjoy our faith with one another online!

Years ago I used to unintentionally offend many of the male believers here on SermonAudio who used to accuse me of being a female pastor. At the time, I found it just a great way to take topics which were provided, and study what God’s Word said about the issues.

Well then, someone who remembered me one here sent me an email recently inviting me back and The Lord has not permitted me to forget about the invitation.

Thank you Lurker and Dorcas: “Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” May God make me a blessing to you both ~ and may love ~ joy ~ & hope be with your spirit!

Hello Jessica,

It's great to see your posts again after so long a time. Hope all is well.

I too find it difficult to go to church services but for different reasons.... I am unable to find a likeminded congregation. Most in my area are more like clicky social gatherings. My wife is Catholic and none of my friends share my interest in the things of God. About the only Christian fellowship I have is here on SermonAudio.

Anyway, there are a number of dear sisters here now and perhaps you can strike up some new friendships and fellowship.

God's best to you, Jessica.

Hi Jessica....at the present we also are without a church family...it is nice to be able to find a Christan forum and be able to fellowship one with another. Praise the Lord for our electronic devices. Nice to have you come on board.
