Are Some Evangelical Pastors Using a False Roman Model of the Kingdom?
In summary, the Roman Church has its own empire with an enormous subculture in which it (as a religious nation) relates to secular nations and institutions. Thus, the Roman Catholic application of the kingdom of God is extremely church-centric, which leads its adherents (in each parish or diocese) to depend upon their local church to exert religious influence in society instead of obligating non-clergy members in the marketplace to influence culture.

Consequently, this has become the subconscious model for many evangelical pastors in Roman Catholic paradigm cultures, resulting in many senior pastors of megachurches acting like popes to their large congregations and building their own mini-empires! Their (Roman) interpretation of the kingdom has resulted in further empowering a (pope-like) top-down leadership style without processing decisions through a multiplicity of ministers, as well as the use ...

JSC, I understand your thoughts and frustrations. I normally refer to our current churches as Roman/Protestantism. Here is a good example that I have posted before and it didn’t meet with much approval. The most common verses used by our hirelings today to justify their exalted positions are from 1 Timothy 3:1-13. Now if we just look at those scriptures, the only ones that could apply only to our leaders and not to all of the body of Christ are these:

2. Husband of one wife and be able to teach.
6. Not a new convert.
10. First be tested.
12. Husbands of only one wife.

All of the other spiritual attributes listed are applicable to all believers. But, in order for our leaders to justify themselves, they pretty much only stress these verses are primarily applicable only to them. Sort of a higher calling purpose. If someone disagrees, please show me the attributes other than the ones I listed that are applicable only to our leaders.

JSC, similar experiences here as well. wow, the elderly with wisdom just wouldn't get "with the program" -- as they would warrenize, they learned how to essentially treat them as "resistors"... here you are with people who've served the Lord with grace their entire lives, sacrificed and in their older years pushed out by the youth wanting to "focus their market"....

I came out of the Chuck Smith Calvary Chapel association and this article hits the nail on the head. None of the 3 I attended had any elders, only one had A DEACON. The direction of the church was solely up to the head pastor and was not to be trifled with. They lived in million dollars homes, ranches, drove nice cars. One got divorced and never stepped down. I watched staff get fired over not sharing the "vision", there was a sense of fear in those places.

It wasn't until I left did I fall under authority to where there was a lot of accountability. I understand when these are called "rock stars" what that means. I wanted to be like them, they just gave a speech twice a week, played golf, met with a couple of people and had nice things. I was duped! This is why I am a solid seperatest now. I am still dealing with the pain of living under that popish regime and never want to see someone subjected to that

Jim,

Your blindly following everything that Gil teaches is not commendable. He is a fallible human being! Shocking statement I know, but you're in danger of making a Pope of him!

A discussion of the differing views of the millennial kingdom as prophesied in the Scriptures makes the case in point of the need to rightly divide the Word of God. Differing views of the kingdom are arrived at by beginning with a different regard for the Scriptures and differing methods of their interpretation. Differing views result in differing perspectives on the world around us and differing practices in regard to social issues, morality, and responsibility to human government.

When the truth is blurred or distorted then what is reality in our world and its destiny is confused leading to vain pursuits and lifestyles.

Calvin on 2 Peter 2:10 {edited for space}

"He comes here to particulars, ..to his own purpose; for he had to do with men of desperate wickedness. He then shews that dreadful vengeance necessarily awaited them. For since God will punish all the wicked, how can they escape who abandon themselves like brute beasts to every kind of iniquity? ... By the lust of uncleanness understand filthy and unbridled gratifications, when men, having cast away every virtuous feeling, and shaken off shame, are carried away into every uncleanness.

This is the first mark by which he brands them, that they are impure men, given up to wickedness. Other marks follow, that they despised government, and feared not to calumniate and reproach men whom God had favored with honorable stations in life. But these words refer to the same thing; for after having said that they held government in contempt, he immediately points out the fountain of this evil, that they were presumptuous, or audacious, and self-willed, or refractory; 169 and lastly, that he might more fully exhibit their pride, he says that they did not fear nor tremble when they treated dignities with contempt. For it is a monstrous arrogance to regard as nothing the glory which shines forth in dignities appointed by God

"the Roman Catholic application of the kingdom of God is extremely church-centric, which leads its adherents (in each parish or diocese) to depend upon their local church"

If "church" has anything to do with God and His Son then church is not applicable to the Roman Catholic organisation.

People who follow the teaching and doctrines of the Roman Catholic Vatican follow the antichrist as well as idolatry and blasphemy.

The Reformation in the 16th century was an act of God to remove His church from Satan's grip, the Roman Catholic institution.

The unbiblical traditions and heresy of the papists has excluded them from Biblical Christianity and sound doctrine, proving them to be under the papal antichrist. This is the road to hell, a man made Christ excluding ideology and methodology.
