Media Encomiums for Pete Seeger Omit Radical Background
In announcing the death of folksinger Pete Seeger (shown) Monday night at the age of 94, the mainstream media applauded his lifetime of singing, as the Washington Post put it, “songs of love, peace, brotherhood, work and protest” and called him a "20th-century troubadour” known for popularizing “If I Had a Hammer,” “Where Have All the Flowers Gone?” and especially the “anthem of the civil rights movement”: “We Shall Overcome.”

The Post noted only briefly Seeger’s close relationship with Woody Guthrie, from whom he “learned to express political and social criticism through music and song.” The Almanac Singers, founded by Seeger, were given scant mention, the paper referring to members Guthrie and Seeger as “colleagues” rather than the more appropriate appellation “comrades.”

The Post couldn't wait to get past all that now-irrelevant history to spend the rest of its paean of praise in how the ...

"Turn! Turn! Turn! (to Everything There Is a Season)", often abbreviated to "Turn! Turn! Turn!", is a song written by Pete Seeger in the late 1950s. The lyrics, except for the title which is repeated throughout the song, and the final verse of the song, are adapted word-for-word from Chapter 3 of the Book of Ecclesiastes, set to music and recorded in 1962. The song was originally released as "To Everything There Is a Season" on The Limeliters' album Folk Matinee and then some months later on Seeger's own The Bitter and the Sweet.
i
The song became an international hit in late 1965 when it was covered by the American folk rock band The Byrds, bowing at #80 on October 23, 1965, before reaching #1 on the Hot 100 chart on December 4, 1965, and also peaking at #26 on the UK Singles Chart. Source: en.wikipedia.org

No #1 pop song has ever quoted the Bible more than Pete Seeger's Turn, Turn, Turn.

When looking at some of the supposed candidates of the GOP, the radical right is a problem, and looking at state politics; it is problem also. ????Bill Moyers on the Dark Money Assault on Democracy and How Racism Stills Drives Our Politics and the program mentioned within Radical Right-Wingers Attempted a Takeover in North Carolina—Here's How the People Fought Back It almost reminds you of the Tea Partry groups doesn't it?

The big problem there is no middle ground anymore

Since this is the prime MO of the left of today I guess they were paying attention.

McCarthy said we were being invaded by communist and socialist,he was right as the present clearly demonstrates regardless of his tactics.

The same can be said about the Romist Senator McCarthy as well being hellbent.

?"We have seen the technique of the
'Big Lie,' elsewhere employed by the totalitarian dictator with devastating success, utilized here for the first time on a sustained basis in our history....

....We have seen the character of private citizens and of Government employees virtually destroyed by
public condemnation on the basis of gossip, distortion, hearsay, and deliberate untruths.....The spectacle is one we would expect in a totalitarian nation where the rights of the individual are crushed beneath the juggernaut of statism and oppression; it has no place in America where government exists to serve our people, not destroy them."
............The Tydings Committee Report on McCarthy's Charges(1950). This was found at, Question for Discussion: How did McCarthyism
limit American political debate and freedom
of speech in the 1950s?

Seeger and the entertainment industry was very much a part of the evil epoch from which nations have not recovered indeed they have become gradually worse.
And everyone who played a part in that if they don't repent and turn to Jesus to be saved will not enter the kingdom of God...the bible says that such things(sin) will come but woe unto those by who they come....and like most all things in the bible it is said with no exception or emotion.

Don't know how the discussion became about Mr Seeger's eternal state but the bible clearly says who will and will not enter the kingdom of God and when we diminish that clarity via personal feelings and opinions regardless of motivation we do serious damage because we feed into people's natural desire to assume things and that God judges on a good vs bad scale because all have fallen short....Emotionalism is the most dangerous of all religions because nothing is clear in its muddy and murky waters that constantly change.

Mr Seeger was a sinner like anyone else and salvation was available to him like anyone else but the fruit of his life does matter and that cannot be removed from him no more than it can be removed form anyone here......all go to heaven is what people want to believe but there simply is no biblical evidence to support it and much that refutes it.

Watch and Pray Wrote:
The Day of Judgment is likely to produce some outcomes that few expected.

I think about this often, although, I would replace "some" with "many". I think there will be many surprises because so many feel that "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved" is the universal ticket to Heaven. So many feel that if they simply believe, they are Heavenbound, no matter how they might live their lives. Many Sodomites believe; even attend church, but their lifestyles damn them. I think that anyone who chose not to pick up their cross and follow Him will be surprised. I don't believe everything is so black and white like some though. God, being the searcher of hearts, knows who is who and what is what and will sift according to the contents of the heart as opposed to what may be seen on the outside. This is how I see it anyway.

Please be reminded that we must all appear before the Judgment Seat of Christ. Jesus, the only Redeemer, has been appointed as Judge by the Father. He alone will have perfect knowledge of the facts and He alone will be able to judge with perfect fairness and perfect equity.
“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness

"But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first." (Matthew 19:30)
The Day of Judgment is likely to produce some outcomes that few expected.
Let us also be reminded of the fruits of the lives of people like Pete Seeger, nobody has judged his eternal destiny but simply his influence and what he chose to advocate and stand for, does the bible indicate that these things don't matter ? by their fruits you shall know them....right ?

He didn't sound all that great--almost like many country/western performers--but he had a few excellent tunes. He certainly was better than alot of RnRoll performers.

The really bad actors were the demagogues like McCarthy --another extremest Catholic--when will America learn? q.v. McCarthyism.

so, the talented Mr Seger was one the few talented admittedly extreme left wingers who escape serious damage, from the equally dangerous right wingers, we had in the country.
To produce the fine prosperous nation we have today I guess ? Seeger was a hack who was given a pass because of his politics,he played like a 5 year old using the same basic chords that anyone would know after playing the Banjo for a year or two...his "talent" was avoiding work and latching on to political bandwagons.

The musically ignorant often confuse poetry with music and the ability to write catchy lyrics with musical talent.

There is a movie "A Mighty Wind" that humorously depicts what a bunch of self important, self appointed idiots many folk "musicians" are and were.

no,CBS television news not only pointed out aboutthe silliness of the witch hunts of the 50's, but even have a clip of Mr Seger himself, pointing out that the publicity did him actually some good. They had a hard time catching the Communists. Mr Seger proudly proclaim his leftist's connections, whlle people like Alger Hiss got away with being one, one of the few times that Richard Nixon was actually correct

the demigod senator come on.
