NE Senator: Relgious Organizations 'PAY YOUR TAXES'

Nebraska state Sen. Ernie Chambers’ new bill aimed at eliminating state property tax exemptions for religious organizations is set for review by the Legislature's Revenue Committee Friday.

Bill LB675, which was introduced by the openly atheist lawmaker on Jan. 8, attempts to “gain more revenue, rather than less, by taking away churches’ property tax exemptions,” according to Chambers’ Statement of Intent.

Although the measure will most likely be killed in committee, Chambers argued in the statement: ...

Sorry Sir, I had read you post on Saturday in a hurry as my computer time was over and I didn't visit it again. I am not saying I do not need be educated in many regards, neither am I disagreeing with what Strat posted in regard to its substance or violation of a number of second table commandments not only the 8th. His wording is offensive to me, but maybe that is me and the decorum I'm comfortable with?

I have little computer time. I labor but not for money. I'll quote a line from my sermon of yesterday " Our confidence in God's mercy is not exactly and directly assaulted until the hour of our death **or the time of extraordinary trial.** (like the death of a loved one)
When the evil day comes, then the consciousness of our sin, whereunto we have been indulgent will be like a force to withdraw our assent from God's mercies, as the pleasure and delight we took was to cause us to transgress the commandment." T. Manton. I have experienced this and the Lord was reminding me of sin before conversion, sin that was not totally mortified though I think many would say I was keeping the 8th commandment by laboring at a lawful calli

To a sheep, I never have posted a link to a you tube video. I gave you links that were exactly what I said, an education from which you would benefit. The Bible says "Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning." (Proverbs 9:8,9 KJV)

NO ONE, contrary to some replies posted, is suggesting that the poor should not be helped. We are saying that you don't violate the 8th commandment to get it done.

If you think you reached some pinnacle where you need not to receive instruction, then you are far above me.
I am glad you're benefiting from T Watson's Taking Heaven taken by Storm (link below) You understanding of Scripture may be fine (not enough posts to make that determination), your understanding of economics is deficient.

The penman of Psalm 82 was inspired by the same Spirit as Psalm 119. "Lord I have hoped for thy salvation and done thy commandments" and the preceding verse, "Great peace have thy that love thy law and nothing can offend them."

Instructions or duties in the OT were given to a nation who to some degree and at some times more than others feared God and obeyed his word, not sinlessly but faithfully, their faith a grace based upon God's veracity concerning past, present and future things was of a greater compass than hope which is a grace based on good to come in the future. Their future hope was Christ to come.

Unless one interprets Scripture looking through the the lens of the past's inspired history, they cannot rightly apply NT Scripture to the present or future; the Scripture does not contradict itself.

I did not need to view the youtube videos UPS as I live with the very real consequences of living in an unjust nation as a justified sinner daily. I have been reading T. Watson 'Taking Heaven By Storm'. In the 17th century he lived in a nation that was not ashamed to knowledge Jesus Christ, as their Prophet, Priest and King at least for a season. M Henry quoted here lived at the same. You cannot apply their understanding to your times in a history void.

As far as sinning goes Canada and the USA might be somewhat similar between their demographic groups, but perhaps Canadians have a longer time to sin (or repent) and that is the fault of their health services, Strat?
Healthcare In Canada vs Healthcare In The United Stetes. We get a lot less bang for the buck than the Canadians do.
Correction: Ernie has good debating skills. Probably a few GOPers learned about filibustering from him, since he's been in govt. a long time givng lessons.

The poor debating skills of liberals has never been a secret and this is a perfect example of it...no one, myself included can be quoted as being against helping the poor.

The strawman lives, while the issue of the government run welfare system with all of its corruption and promotion of sin and its damage to society goes undebated because none of you can successfully defend it....being liberals lather, rinse repeat is the best you can do.....it's ok,you're liberals.

I have seen some of you wailing and howling about society's ills and its a real hoot to see that in fact you support it 100%

You people can post all the scripture you want but unless you can also post scripture that supports all the sins made possible and increased by the modern welfare state you are in error.

A Christian who supports sin is a heretic, apostate and an enemy of God and will most certainly share Hell with those they assist in getting there.

Read what your bible has to say about sin,the method of sin,the assistence of sin,the aid of sin,the shelter and defense of sin,the finance of sin and sinful enterprise and if any of you have the least bit of integrity post those scriptures, then again post your support for the welfare state that increases and multiplies every sin in the bible, has almost destroyed our society and political system and countless millions of lives and souls while delivering power to corrupt politicians and good feeling to godless liberals "Christian" and unchristian alike.

If we want to kill all social welfare programs, even ones that take care of the elderly and disabled, than how about ending 'corporate welfare' that cost $40 billion dollars a year more than the social programs everyone hates?
Unfortunately, Barry, "government" is a very poor (inefficient) vehicle for helping the poor and needy. Only 30% of the tax money earmarked for aid to the poor actually reaches them. The other 70% gets gobbled up by administrative costs -- and corruption. The very governmental agencies that are put into place eat up MOST of the tax dollars. Sad.

Hey, but THAT'S our "compassionate" BIG government for ya. THAT is how it "works."

BTW, ALL the Biblical commands to aid the poor and needy are directed to INDIVIDUALS! There is NO Biblical mandate that the state or nation has that responsibility.

Jesus Himself never reprimanded Caesar, Rome, or the nation Israel for not setting up some sort of redistribution of wealth system to take care of the needy. ALL His derectives were to individuals.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Psalm 82
1 God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.

2 How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.

3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.

4 Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.

5 They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.

6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.

7 But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.

8 Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.

Isa. 58
13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure,** nor speaking thine own words**:

14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

I would especially suggest a sheep and Barry from KY, read and consider.

Strat has got it right.

Look at the Scriptures, many who oppose Strat would say look Jesus fed over 5000 in one place and over 4000 in another. (btw women and children rarely traveled outside the home so they would not have been in abundance at such events) But what did our Lord say in John 6:26-27, He rebuked them for coming for physical sustenance. Hungry crowd left by chapter's end. Read the story of the Pilgrims and Governor Bradford, how they went from poverty to plenty.

Strat is not against helping the poor and needy, he is speaking against this fraudulent system we call the war of poverty. Billions transferred for the haves to the have nots and yet those on government assistance programs are at record highs.

The brother has much wisdom here and he should be heeded.

Ok,you ask why would it be necessary to fit a biblical description of the poor to be taken care of by a secular system....there is no requirement and the results are plainly seen.

I ask you, does one who claims to be a Christian seek biblical or secular answers for life's problems,i forget sometimes that America is in a post Christian phase of its soon to be history and rather foolishly assume that when discussing issues such as this with others who call themselves Christians that a biblical approach is agreed upon...my mistake many times over.

My life has taught me that God's way is the only way,i have experienced what I like to call the American standard of poverty, both self inflicted and of circumstances beyond my control, leaving school at 15 cost me 20 years of dead end jobs and low wages, living in one dump right after another, rented rooms and places I wouldn't put a Dog in,barely enough money for rent, gas and/or food.

When God came into my life I began to realize that it was MY responsibility to improve my life through education and hard work, the bible has much to say about those who hate work and knowledge....we embrace and subsidize the hatred of both in modern America and again the results are all around us

Oh boy,my favorite...a self proclaimed bible scholar for whom even the simplest explanantion is insufficient.
There is no reason for the bible to condemn sin and pronounce judgement on it then tell people to support and encourage it with financial support to assist in the avoidance of the consequences of that sin....it is exactly what the atheist say, that the bible contradicts it's self.
Support the Godless and you are Godless.
Shocking, your statment is shockingly stupid and not worth responding to.
No Scholar a Student and I learn what you or anyone is really saying by asking questions. We are to test the spirits are we not? and wouldn't the word of God be the test. I've asked you questions based on my understanding of Scripture and you falsely accuse me, that is not good. This is a day of religious pluralism and we must understand what the Scripture teaches in order to avoid the false teachers that abound on every side, whether in the pulpit or pews, false teaching is dangerous. We all err and it is the reading of the Word that helps us to help one another to avoid error together with preaching, meditation, prayer, self examination and Christian conversation. I know what you don't like but have no idea what you believe.
