Welfare Hits Record Levels After 50 Years of War on Poverty
Fifty years ago this week, President Lyndon Johnson announced the “War on Poverty” during his first State of the Union speech. Under the Obama administration, however — five decades, countless unconstitutional federal welfare programs, and more than $20 trillion later — poverty levels remain largely unchanged even based on official numbers, and dependence on government has reached unprecedented new heights.

In reality, Americans’ economic fate is far worse than even bogus government statistics would suggest. Even more troubling is that analysts say the trends look set to accelerate as Washington, D.C., intensifies its failed efforts to supposedly achieve “victory” in the “war” while the Federal Reserve conjures ever greater quantities of currency into existence. ...

it's nice to know that a few of you, do realize--even if it is true--the national motto isn't, "Greed Works!"

This short video, Shields and Brooks on debt limit drama, addressing economic inequality from the PBS news hour, with Mark Shields and David Brooks is interesting on their take on the Republican position of debt limits, poverty, and Obamacare. of course, they didn't pass up some comments about Canadian senator from Texas, Ted Cruz. . I always find these gentleman interesting, even when I don't agree with everything I say. Also some observations on the Tea Party.

Every fine line being for the Lord to judge, but it is certain that entire governments, businesses, and church organizations think to feed well off of the multitudes going on food and drink binges, undisciplined gambling, substance abuses, paying fines and filling courts and jails, lust for riches, etc. Therefore cruel and unfair hoaxes must needs abound.

The bottom 50% paid less than 3 percent.
So, the upper 10% of income workers ARE PAYING 70% of taxes (but earning less than 50% of income) that the government receives. Somehow, Jim from Lincoln and liberal democrats, and liberals in Germany, think they aren't paying their fair share. By stats FROM THE IRS it looks like if we are strictly speaking about "fair share." (Jim's terminology)then it is the lower 50% that are not paying their fair share and the "super rich" that paying an "unfair" burden of the taxes to the government.
Amazing isn't it,we have the fattest and most well off "poor" in the world who have their food, clothing, shelter Beer, drugs, cell phones and lottery tickest paid for by those they hate and ridicule the most and it's still in their eyes not "fair"

Don't you find it absolutely AMAZING, Jim, that there are MORE millionaire Democrats in Congress than there are Republican?

Don't find it also absolutely AMAZING that the gap between the rich and poor has GREATLY increased under your political "Pope" Obama? After 5 years of Obama, one would think the gap would have DECREASED!

You consider the extreme left wing NY TImes and its basic class warfare propaganda to be a neutral source? Then you also quote an organization founded by a former cabinet member for Jimmy Carter. Two extreme ultra-liberal sources.

You need to start reading people like Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams . I believe Hillsdale College offers free econ 101 courses on line, you should give them consideration. Even though you despise the Heritage foundation, I would venture to say it is NOT because you have taken time to read their materials. Honestly, you might even do better with leftist leaning Brookings Institute

Yes Jim, you must be the only one who hasn't been fooled by all the right wing propaganda. Your last comment, revealing the balance you claim, denoting "left-wing" and "extreme right-wing" is also noted.

PS, Obysmalcare should be opposed by anyone opposed to legally enforced corruption, but that isn't likely to happen among those who see people as voter blocs and interest groups, is it?

God knows the heart of man and that he will do what he can get by with unscathed so he put negative consequences in place for negative behavior as guidepost in life.

Satan also know the heart of man and that he will first seek to remove consequences in order to do as he pleases, which brings us to the society we now have, and of course honorable mention must be made of the "Christians" who seem to think they know more about love and compassion than God does and serve the Devil's purposes via their distorted worldy and twisted view of compassion...instead of salt and light they are sugar in the dark.

Unprofitable is correct

You can't declare a war on laziness, entitlement, and irresponsibility outside of allowing the consequences to land where they might. Isn't that how God ORDAINED things to happen in His creation?

That is because it never was a war on poverty, it was always a war on capitalism. It was always a mass redistribution plan stealing from one member of society to give to those deemed more worthy. As the Heritage foundation points out promoting work and restoring marriage (due to the poverty rate for unwed mothers and their children) would do more to eradicating poverty than all this legal plunder which in reality funds the government union workers who run the programs more than helping the people it was "designed" to help. (at least 70 cents of every welfare dollar goes to the administrators of the programs) That is the main reason you see such an increase under the Obama administration, because he wants more government union workers. More democratic votes and donators. More people dependent upon government.

Strat,
You are, unfortunately, spot on. Man, especially America man, is so arrogant to believe "we can do it better". History has proven a government sanctioned redistribution of wealth never really helps the " poor". You are right, if and when the country finally bankrupts, the playing field will be even, and equality will be reached. Solomon was correct "nothing new under the sun".
